The Red Sox just got GREAT news... MAJOR injury updates
1 Video View·Sep 6, 2026
The Boston Red Sox just got great news surrounding five key players to this organization and their
championship aspirations this season, four of which involved in the pitching staff and one
in the best defensive center fielder in the game. I'm here to break down a bunch of quotes from
manager Chad Tracy involving four different pitchers that could be coming back for this
Red Sox team for an October push as well as the updates surrounding say Don Raffaella and the
tightness in his quad that he's been dealing with for the last few days. I'll break down all of
those updates surrounding those players on this episode of Red Sox Digest so let's not waste any
time and get right to it breaking down the news as there is a decent amount to talk about as we
got a bunch of updates. Shout out to Mickey Gasper for being an absolute freak but now let's get to
the actual news. So Nessen posted this and it was a clip about two minutes and 30 seconds long
of Tracy discussing with the media about all of these big names and we're first going to start
with the ace of the Boston Red Sox Garrett Crochet where he was asked how did Crochet do today?
Response was he was good he threw 16 pitches nothing crazy all fastballs came out of it fine
we'll see how he recovers and he'd be scheduled for another on Tuesday. So Garrett Crochet working
his way back and hopefully he can return to this Red Sox organization in some facet whether he
returns to the starting rotation which seems very unlikely but we have been hearing rumors and
speculation that if he does and can return to this Red Sox team this season which he wants to
desperately because he wants to contribute to winning baseball in Boston this season after
witnessing the historic run this team went on just over a month ago to put themselves in the
position they currently sit in in the AL firmly in a playoff spot but also in hopes to make a
championship run this season he is willing to go in the bullpen and come out as a high leverage arm
another lefty to be added to the bullpen for the Red Sox and could you imagine the idea of Garrett
Crochet throwing one if not two innings for this Red Sox team in relief that would be absolutely
magical and we've discussed this in the past but if you don't know and you didn't miss those videos
in the past discussing Crochet and the likelihood of him coming out of the bullpen and what that
would look like you do have to remind yourself that I believe he's been in the league for six
years now the first three years of his career I believe it's seven he missed his fourth year due
to injury the first three years of his career worth were with the Chicago White Sox where he
was specifically a bullpen arm and he was really really good obviously he lands in Boston and he
is a starter from that point going forward and with no questions being asked but again he does
have some experience coming out of the bullpen especially in high leverage situations collecting
a handful of saves for the Chicago White Sox in the early stages of his career now we move on
to the next name and that is Tanner Houck who we got the most positive updates surrounding and he
seems like the most likely candidate to come back the most the soonest I should say so the question
only words the the media personnel got out was Houck and Tracy cut them off he is very notorious
for that the second he he hears a name he doesn't even let the question come out fully he gets right
to the answer and gives us all the information that he knows and he went on to say this he threw
he also came out feeling it or came out of it feeling fine it is a live sim game setting so
depending on him feeling good when he comes in tomorrow he would be scheduled for a rehab game
on on Tuesday in Portland which is the double-a affiliate for the Boston Red Sox and this is
absolutely massive as it has been a long time since we've seen Tanner Houck pitching for this
Red Sox organization especially on the major league level and based off these brand new updates
we've heard that he's been throwing bullpen sessions that he's been throwing against batters
and that's been great to hear but now it seems like he's in live sims and he's getting closer
to that rehab stint that could come this up and coming Tuesday which would be the 6th 7th the 8th
of September and I'm filming this on Saturday you guys are probably watching it on Sunday September
6th so it seems like Tuesday we can see Tanner Houck pitching for double-a Portland which version
of Tanner Houck we are actually going to see is the big question if you guys remember back in 2023
2023 I believe or 2024 I apologize the year is actually slipping me Tanner Houck was phenomenal
he's named to an all-star team his war was phenomenal his overall his ability to strike
guys out was really good his era was below three and a half overall really really good year for
Tanner Houck and if we can get that version of him back in Boston in this starting rotation or
possibly even coming out of the bullpen it would be phenomenal and the idea of these guys coming
back and being the best versions of themselves that we've ever witnessed in their careers should
not be the expectations okay that like let's not set unreasonable expectations let's just hope to
get some of these guys not even all of them but some if not the majority of these guys back
specifically on the pitching side of things because more pitching is exactly what you need
you need high leverage guys you need guys that you're going to be willing to trust in high leverage
situations whether they are starters whether they whether they are guys coming out of the bullpen
in low leverage relief or again high leverage relief the more pitching you have the more
comfortable teams can be especially in October because whoever has the most dominant pitching
in October usually is the most successful I understand pitching doesn't score runs but
it's able you're able to stop them from scoring runs and it puts your offense in a much better
position we all know this and having a surplus of pitching is never a bad thing and another name
Johan Oviedo a name that a lot of Red Sox fans have forgotten is even a part of this Red Sox
organization because of the lack of experience in tenure that he has in Boston because the second he
got here he immediately found himself on VIL let's see do I have the dates here I do this first bar
March 31st Tanner or Tanner how Johan Oviedo went on the IL he made one start he went four innings
for the Boston Red Sox sorry we're jumping ahead here he made one start for the Boston Red Sox he
went four innings and then he was sidelined I we need to see him back because it seems like
he could be a really realistic and respectable option for this Red Sox team and again he doesn't
have to be a starter he could come out of the bullpen whatever works as long as he is a credible
arm that's throwing at a respectable rate thing this is going to be another really good acquisition
by the Red Sox and maybe this all works out where the IL and the list of guys on the IL are able to
return to this Red Sox team in perfect timing and return to it this point to this team at a point
where they can help dominate in a postseason run so updates on Oviedo before the name even got out
of the media's mouth it was Ovie and immediately Tracy jumped on it Oviedo also threw today I think
he would be scheduled for another side on Tuesday and then looking towards the end of next week to
potentially do a rehab game immediately followed up with a question for Oviedo did he throw against
hitters I believe that was Alex Spear who asked that question I that you can't see the faces it's
literally just Tracy's face but it sounded like Alex Spear don't hold me to that he Tracy then
responded he threw against hitters today yeah so Johan Oviedo making good progress through another
setting today seems like he's going to throw again in the following days and again on Tuesday he's
scheduled on Tuesday at least and then by the time of next the end of next week so maybe the 11th the
12th maybe even the 13th or 14th we can see Oviedo throwing in a rehab assignment again maybe down in
Portland for double-a maybe in with the Wu socks and triple-a we have to wait and see we have to see how he looks
on Tuesday how he feels on Tuesday but it seems like again just like Tanner Houck the rehab stints
are getting closer and closer for these guys and it seems like this timing is really going to work
out very very well for the Boston Red Sox now for the final two names on the pitching side of things
the first one Slayton again the only words gotten out of the mouth where it was the name Slayton
where Tracy then responded still not throwing right now he's managing symptoms just like Guerrero
until you get symptoms to go away you're not going to keep him throwing and that led into
this answer by Tracy that would be the other one Guerrero through today and was good and we'll
throw again tomorrow see where he's at and then slowly work him back to sides or maybe a live and
hopefully have him on schedule and we absolutely need to see Guerrero back with this Red Sox team
Slayton it's going to be a little bit longer than it seems like for Guerrero but if you can
get both of these guys back this bullpen is going to be daunting and it's going to be daunting and
coming together perfectly at the perfect time if you look at this bullpen right now it's good
without a shadow of a doubt I won't argue against that that is the IL let's go to the actual
bullpen here Chapman Miller Whitlock Weiser Gamboa Olds Moran Burgos and Bale it's good don't get me
wrong the top three guys are phenomenal and I think you can put them against any top three high
leverage guys in any bullpen in the MLB and you might be able and I I confidently think you could
be able to make the argument they are the best three-headed monster in any bullpen in the MLB
but if you add Slayton if you add Guerrero to that mix good god I'd like that those five guys
would you could have anyone any starting pitcher go four innings and turn the remaining five
innings over to those five individuals and the ERA would be negative like it would be insanity
and extremely daunting for any team to go against if you could throw out Slater Weiser then Slayton
then Guerrero then Whitlock and then Chapman and then again I'd even mention Miller in that
conversation like it is going to be at to the point if these guys do come back and they are
healthy and they are at the point where they are respectable on the mound and not forced back which
we can trust Tracy not to do because he's been very adamant about that with any and everyone
that's been injured for this Red Sox team this year since he took over from Alex Cora he does
not rush anyone back but if those guys were able to come back oh it's gonna be a lot of fun in
actual organization itself the final name we are going to mention is arguably the best defensive
center fielder in the game of baseball say Don Raffaella where we get this question I believe
this is from Jeremiah Jones what type of progress is say Don making answer he's better today so it's
improved but I'm in a position where I'm running I'm not running him out there until I hear that
he's in a really really good spot so we're seeing improvements which is good but not in there today
we will do the same thing tomorrow we will get through a full day of treatment see where he's
at in the morning and check in on how he's feeling tomorrow is unlikely for sure and no rush again
re-emphasizing the idea no rush from Tracy on the idea of getting say Don Raffaella back even though
everyone wants to see him back playing games for Boston and again we're in the we're in September
it's a matter of time until things actually get going for the Red Sox in the sense of postseason
play if you look at this schedule you they have now won the series against the Baltimore Orioles
taking the first two games or at least splitting the series they play again tonight in about an
hour which is going to be a lot of fun Chris Bassett's on the mound for the Orioles so it
should be an absolute bomb show for the Red Sox we can only hope you close out that series tomorrow
on Sunday which is today because you guys are probably watching it on Sunday this video on
Sunday then you have three games against the Angels three games against the Royals three
games against the Rangers and those nine games the Red Sox need to win all of them all of them
those teams are not in the same class as the Red Sox they need to go out there and dominate those
nine games before they go to the number one seed in the AL against the Rays the Guardians who are
battling for the final wildcard spot in the AL and then closing out against one of the scariest
and prolific teams in all of baseball in the Chicago Cubs they are in a really good position
to not only get healthy at the right time but close out this season on a very hot note and put
themselves in a very good position going into October let me know down below your expectations
for the names that we broke down on this episode of Red Sox Digest and I will see you guys on the
next one thank you guys for watching
