Alright, this is episode 3 of the podcast.
This is for the real, real, real followers.
A lot of people think they are real followers.
But there's going to be probably something in your life
between you and Christ.
Whether you believe it or not. Whether you know it or not.
It's usually money. And we don't even realize it.
I'll give you an example. I have a family member.
We go, you know,
as a family you do vacation sometimes.
My family never really takes vacations. So they're going.
But one of the members of our family
doesn't want to take off for work.
To go. So that's choosing money over
essentially family. In turn, which is God.
Right? Because that's the only thing in life
that's real. Because money won't buy you
happiness. You know, I worked in
TV for a long time. I met a lot
of people. I met a lot of people that have a lot of money.
Surface level, I'm sure.
There's happiness there.
But I do know deep down that
money can just buy you things.
So if you don't have God
and if you don't know Christ, eventually
you'll run out of things to do.
And I say this because
that's the reason why a lot of people go crazy
working a regular job their whole lives. Because
it never really pays off. Right? What do you get in the end?
You know, you get retirement, maybe.
So you get a handful of good years, maybe. But if you don't have a lot of money,
you're going to take the vacations. Again, these are just filling
holes. It's the same thing over and over. It's a repetitive cycle.
You can do the same things over and over again.
And we don't even realize it.
Day in and day out. We're supposed to be creating and building
relationships and helping our fellow
people, our brothers and sisters.
That's why I love doing that stuff. It's so much fun, guys.
That's what you should do. Get out. Touch some grass,
as they say. But just be part of the community. If you're not,
it'll make you feel better.
It'll gather your neighbors.
Just do really positive things. Help others. So I was watching
some movies, as I do. I've always
been into film. Like I said, I worked in TV
for a long time. I'm currently working on a documentary
about a friend of mine who played in the NFL. His name
is James Harris. The film is called Fields of Redemption.
I'll put a trailer in here.
I played with Chris Dorman, John Randall.
Two of the best Divas of Lima ever to play in the NFL.
But the difference between me and them, they didn't have a second life.
You can't let them two lies, man. Because them two lies are going to come together
and it's going to blow up in your damn face.
Like it blew up in my face. So please don't go down
my path. Because my path is full of s*** and bull.
No witness could ever get up there and say they had ever had a
conversation with James Harris about anything illegal.
Man, you already made it. Why you still doing this?
It's what I do. I don't know how much s*** money was sitting over here,
but I'm looking at it. Mind you, I'm just a n***a from Chicago.
I didn't have anything to lose.
I'm grown up in the hood. I'm already poor and broke.
What was life? Life wasn't worth much.
Everybody in the hood got PTSD, man. Everybody.
You can't take me down.
You can't break me down.
You can't take me down.
But basically, he played in the NFL for almost 10 years
for the Vikings, the Raiders, and partially with the Rams.
But during his tenure with the Rams, he got caught up in
a trafficking offense.
And this all stemmed from childhood, because he grew up in
East St. Louis in the 70s
and the 80s in the crack epidemic era, where a lot of
people, including themselves, including James
himself, grew up without a father in the
household. Now, he had a father figure.
He had a stepfather as well.
But a lot of these kids, when they don't have that
father figure or God, they just mirror, again,
the art that they watch or surround
themselves with. So when they watch violent movies or listen to
music that talks about
these things, they end up doing these things. That's just how it works.
Art doesn't actually imitate
life. Life imitates art.
And then we're told the other way. I'll give you an example.
In Birth of a Nation, this goes all the way back
to the 1910s. This is 1915, Birth of a Nation.
D.W. Griffith. Now, this was like the epic
movie of the time. It was the big blockbuster.
And this movie
made a resurgence for the KKK. The KKK
had already been dead for 40 plus years.
People think that the KKK had been around
since the Civil War ended.
Now, when the Civil War ended, the KKK
came to be, but they were only around for a few years
and then they were gone. So this movie literally
brought the spirit back into people to go
and rise up and create the KKK again. So the movie
showed the people what to do and they did it.
They literally mirrored the film.
And then in doing that, they came out with
a lot of movies at the time. There's another one called The Fool is There. Another one called
The Cheat. And these movies did the same
thing. They broke down the morals of society.
So people watched the movies and they were like,
the people in Hollywood, because they were making money and they were
being idolized,
they were in worse condition, obviously,
than the people watching it at that point. The people watching it wanted
to be stars and go to Hollywood and become
idols themselves and make money and seek fortune and fame
because they were starting to build that American dream for people.
But in doing so, what happened
was over the next handful of years, over the 1910s and early 1920s,
is we had a lot of Hollywood scandals exactly like we have today.
Exactly like we have today. Like with the Me Too movement.
And then right now, you know, you have
a lot of, you know, you have the P. Diddy stuff.
You had Cosby a handful of years ago. I mean, this goes back to O.J. in the
90s. There's always scandals in Hollywood, right? And then
what happens? Like, people idolize these people so they go down
the same exact path. And you wonder why. It just keeps
repeating itself. It just keeps repeating itself. So like,
you know, O.J., O.J. is one of the first
guys in professional
sports to be, that I can remember
to be up for the crime of murder. There's probably one further back.
I just don't remember it. And then, you know, a handful of years later
you have so many people in the NFL accused of
horrible crimes, including up to Aaron Hernandez, who was accused of multiple
murders. So it becomes
normalized. And then we make documentaries
on them. And I'm even doing so. But the thing is, what I'm doing with it
is it's supposed to be a moral tale. Do not do this.
You know, put scripture throughout.
Show how that's what we're supposed to do
as artists. Show how the thing either was broken down
and don't go down that path. Or show a good story
and where good triumphs over evil.
Right? Because that way, society
then mirrors that. Society then mirrors that.
And then eventually, things will get better.
But when we watch a 24-hour news cycle of horrible
things happening, and then we watch movies
like Sinners, and we watch, you know,
shows like The Walking Dead, and these things,
and we see apocalypse around us everywhere.
The hit shows, Stranger Things, we have the demons from the other side winning.
Constantly winning. Like, I don't know the latest season
of the show, but, like, a lot of these things just
break down society and people don't even realize it.
And there's no way they can see it. It says so in the Bible.
It says in the Bible. Like, you can't see these things.
The blind cannot see. That's the problem with surface
level stuff. People read that in the Bible and they literally think
they're talking about a blind person. But he's also saying
in a deeper level, it's like that's what majority of people are.
They literally can't see what's in front of them.
They're in the matrix. They like eating the steak.
Life is good, right? Especially if you're well off.
If you're well off in society, then life is better
for you, so therefore it's easier for you to
give in to the matrix, right? The lower
in society you are, what that means
is that you have to create meaning for yourself
and when there's no meaning for yourself, we become depressed and we sin more.
Right? And we go down these paths of
darkness and we don't even realize it.
We don't even realize it as a society.
Everything's normalized. You go to the store and things are just locked up behind a cabinet.
You see deodorant locked up behind a cabinet.
Behind a little plexiglass. It's like deodorant.
It's like we're at a point in society
where that's more important than people.
Like these things you don't even need anymore. These things are all man-made
and I'm sure there's biblical things for these.
All these items that man
has made for our comfort
have taken us away from God, for one.
And in turn, has created our own slavery to it.
Like we need more things
to make us happy and so therefore we need to make more money
for those things and then
we end up worshipping the money and the things
without even realizing it. And we think it's also giving our
family good lives, our kids good lives. We think it's
giving them good lives, but in turn
it's just leading us down a path to our own demise.
I'm reminded of a song by Sublime
called We're Only Gonna Die For Our Own Arrogance.
And that's the truth. Like our own arrogance is gonna kill us.
Like it says we need to humble ourselves.
Constantly we need to humble ourselves.
I do it on a daily, yeah I have to do it on a daily basis.
It's hard because when
you live in society you have
to be a part of society and you end up
conforming to it unless you are
very strong in your faith
in which turn you can deflect it. But then you're
a lot of times all crazy or
like you're an outcast because you don't fit in.
But Jesus Christ didn't fit in.
So who do you want to be like? Do you want to be like
society or do you want to be like Jesus? I say you
either work for the devil or you work for God. I tell this to all my friends
and family. So back to
Birth of a Nation and these other films.
In 1922 because of all the
scandals just like there are today
they had scandals like Fatty Arbuckle. Just like those
scandals they hired this dude named William Hayes
and he was a man of
faith and he believed and
he brought in this moral code and they called it the Hayes
Code to Hollywood and they had to implement
this into the films and they all had to have morals and they couldn't do certain things
and I believe that this
was a good thing but at the same time
like when you really... God bless that person
and peace be with them. I hope they slow down.
So when
they brought in this code
I thought it was a good thing at first. But now I realize
that all it does is
extend it out in
a way where they were
able to make these things and push the boundaries
and then make these art, make these films
and push the boundaries in a way that it also
they were also demonizing
they were still demonizing other races. They're not even
races man. It's just ethnicity. This is just melanin content. There's no other worthy
human race. We're all God's children. Like that's crazy. Like we need
to stop the hijack of language. Language is the most hijacked thing
there is. People don't even know. Like love
I was thinking about love the other day. I keep going off subject but love is
an interesting word because in Hebrew it means
more than just like the love that we talk about. Like
we can say I love pizza but I can also say I love my dad
I love my mom. Like those are the same... that's not the same thing
Like love was a covenant between us and God in the Hebrew
So like it meant more. Like it was an actual
you know, this was a relationship, right? It's a relationship. Like love
is not a loose term. Love today is an emotion
like I love you immediately, like falling, like
this is another thing they hijacked. They showed it in movies to think
and going all the way back to Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, they showed us love for sight
and these things to
make us believe that it's just
an emotion. Where as love does not seek
itself. Love is one of
those things that it has to be
unconditional. That's what God wants. That's why he gives us free will so that we
choose him, right? So that means love
is so deep. Like it's so deep. Love
is letting go. Love means like no matter what that person
does, you still love them
You know, when you see a mother
or a father, when they love their child
so much, when they've done something wrong, right? I love my kids even
if they did something wrong. Now everyone else might not like
what they did, but that love is true
unconditional love, you see what I'm saying? So that's why that's another hijack of
the modern world today, is they don't want us having children
so that we cannot relate to what God feels for us as easily
right? Because when we have our own children, we feel
that unconditional love to them
and it makes it easier to understand it
whereas before you have kids a lot of times it's hard to understand
unconditional love, like real unconditional love
and that real word love. So we use that term really loosely
Sorry, that was off tangent, so off subject, but we're going back
so when Hayes implemented this code for years, like they made all these
cool movies man, like these really good movies that
they made The Wizard of Oz in this time, they made Gone with the Wind
they made Casablanca
The Maltese Falcon
I was just thinking about that movie the other day
again another idol, those are so good
and the movies just keep getting remade today, that's why the movies are terrible today
because they keep just remaking these movies and then
they're on the 10th remake of these movies today, so they're just like
they don't even realize they've seen the movie before, that's why they don't
enjoy it as much and that's why it's not memorable because you've already seen it
when you go to film school or when you learn literature
when you learn about storytelling, you realize that there's only
a handful of storytelling
models, like God vs. Man, Man vs. Man
there's only like 7 stories, you can break everything down into
like 7 stories, then you have different genres
for the same stories, you have the same stories told in different genres
so good storytelling is just
an artist being able to tell one of those stories well in the genre
in their own way, right
and then hopefully it is a good moral story
that in turn, society
reflects back in a good way, that's the goal
then there's the moral tales
to tell, so that we don't go down those dark paths
that's the point of putting those out, like right now, learn by example
don't do what I did
that's what my friend James says all the time
don't do what I did
now everybody has their demons, right
everybody has their own road to redemption
with God, I did, we all do
so, all of those
movies during these years until 1968
when the MPAA were established
and the rating system established, and at that point, they were just telling you
we're just going to put out whatever, and we'll put a rating on it
and then those are the ages that should watch it
but, I mean, come on, let's be honest, once you get to be a certain age
you know, these days
the kids these days can access anything, if they really wanted to
so, of course society is going to break down
because we're a reflection of the art
and the news, and everything
and all we got to do is be positive
these things are the lessons on how to
overcome that mental slavery
and break free from that
and start living for your
family, friends, and community
rather than taking in all of society's
negative, and
internalizing that, and having an opinion on it
because our opinions don't matter to society
they just don't, you just end up arguing with people
and that just creates negative, so what's the point, that's what I'm saying
that's why we don't follow ourselves, we follow God
because our opinions will always end up just arguing with each other
because somebody's going to know more about a subject than
another person, and then the argument will eventually just
end up with, like I said, that's
why people get hurt, people end up in fights
so, I mean
look at this, both Socrates and Plato believed that a study of philosophy
should encourage a student to think of himself
right? that's the point guys
look within, look within
we know right from wrong, if we just start
doing right, and doing really really good in everything
and strive to be really good
the way to do this is to pray
and to follow Jesus, like you follow
his words, like read a little bit
of the New Testament, or like I said, flip open
to his teachings, and just read a few passages every day
like a couple sentences, it'll just, it'll make, it'll, you take those
and you internalize them, and it'll help you fill your cup every day
and it'll help you just be a better
person, and it'll make you want to start doing better every day, it will
that's the honest truth
that's the honest truth, so
we'll end this episode by going over
the end of the Hays Code
so, there was this movie called The Miracle
and this producer brought it over
the same producer brought over The Bicycle Thief, which is another
like a film
of the time that was very
it was renowned, right, so this guy was known for
these like good films, and so he brought this movie over called The Miracle
and it challenged the code
very very much so, in a sense where it's complete blasphemy
so, this lady
falls in love with this guy
and he gets her drunk
and he has his way with her
and she believes that she's pregnant with the Messiah
right, it's called The Miracle, I haven't seen the movie
I just read the synopsis, and this movie
won free speech
first amendment, right, and this is the breakdown
of the code, so over the next 16 years
artists like Hitchcock, Billy Wilder
some like it hot, like these movies push the code
until it profoundly broke it in 68, completely
and then you have the era
of all, of the classics, The Godfather
The Graduate, all these movies that just
totally push the boundaries, and
what did that do? Society started reflecting that, you had the disco era and everybody
doing drugs, and it's not like people didn't do drugs before that
I'm not trying to deny the fact that people did drugs before that, but the
idea is that it just gets worse and worse and worse
because the moral breakdown happens, right
and those artists of the 40s were doing
heroin, and doing hard drugs, and then eventually
the people that idolized them did those things
that's why we follow our idols down the same path, you know when I was a
kid I watched Chris Farley, I loved
his movies, I loved him on SNL, right
and you realize that he died
and he idolized John Belushi
before, you know, so it's just a generational thing
so he literally ended up exactly like his idol
right, we follow man, we end up like man
these are literal examples people, right
we end up who, we end up exactly who we
idolize, like, that's why if we, if our dads, or our fathers
or our father figures, right, don't have God, whatever they do
in life, we idolize that, we become that, we literally, the apple does not
fall far from the tree, that's why the tree needs to be from God
so that the apple doesn't fall far from God
so yeah, so then you had movies like I said
like Psycho and 60, Hitchcock
pushed the boundaries, and then by the end of his career he was making
made Frenzy, which is like literally a serial killer movie
you know, 8 years later you have, or a few years
later after Frenzy, around the same time you have The Exorcist
you have like these really scary movies that were scaring
people, and it was scaring society
and literally making people believe in demons
or not really believe in demons I guess, they believed in bad
but they didn't believe in the good as much anymore
because these movies pushed the boundaries of like what good was
right, they pushed the boundaries
of what evil can do to good
when the light shines in the dark, the dark goes away
so the good always defeats
the bad, so you have
to start making better art again, and put better art
online, and put
more positive instead of negative, and then
society will start to reflect that back
more, because the power is in the people now
it always has been
there's some good movies out there
that came close
here, Philo on Creation
wait for the ice machine
but Moses, who had early reached the very summits of philosophy
and who had learned from the oracles
of God, the most numerous and important of
principles of nature, was well aware that it is
indispensable that in all existing things there must be an
active cause and a passive subject, and that the active cause
is the intellect of the universe, thoroughly unadulterated
and thoroughly unmixed, superior to virtue
and superior to science, superior even to abstract good
or abstract beauty
they all knew the truth
they just didn't know how to
they didn't know Jesus Christ yet
Philo lived during the time of Jesus
I think he died
the next book is basically
John in philosophy
and so then we had to wrap around, because the truth was
told, everyone knew the truth after that, because we become
we as a people become Israel, we are reborn
of the spirit, we become Israel, we are Israel
as the people, because it says so in Galatians
3.2.8 and 3.2.9
it says that when we are reborn of the spirit we become Christ
we are no longer a man or a woman
or a slave or a freeman
we are no longer anything because we are a spirit
and we are one in Christ, and he says we are heir to the promise
of Abraham, because we are now of his seed, which means we are
Israel
as Jesus would say, Shalom Aleichem
peace be upon you, God bless
I pray for everyone, I love everyone
watch some of those old movies that I was talking about, like Birth of a Nation
I mean these are hard movies to get through, I get it, old movies are hard to watch
kind of have to, they are an acquired taste, I get it, but at the same time
you know, I get, these are probably harder to read
like these books are harder to read, so just watch the podcast I guess, I don't listen to the podcast
you only got to listen, you don't got to watch
I will shoot some b-roll of this stuff a little bit more
but I'm kind of a one man band here right now, so
it just takes some time to do these things
but yeah, it's interesting, watch those movies
watch Birth of a Nation, it's an interesting one man, because it's like yeah
it's the birth of the clan, and they want us to believe that we would have just done these
things without being shown that
again, like, if we had never been shown that
if we would have been shown something positive, right
like about unity, about coming together as a people
like that's what we would have been doing at the time, but that's not what the devil wants
so anyway, God bless, see you next episode
