JESUS WAS AN ESSENE! Missing 18 years explained! - The History of the Bible Series

The purpose of Jesus, the Essene, was to effect a great moral revolution. From the age of twelve to thirty, he was in the Essene colonies. It cannot be doubted that our savior himself belonged to this holy brotherhood. This was written in 1947. And again, Pliny declares the Essenes were the pioneer group of mystics. The Talmud speaks of the brotherhood as the holy community in Jerusalem. Strabo mentions the Essenes in Heliopolis, with whom Plato consulted. Philo calls the mystic group champions of virtue, a people by themselves more remarkable than any other in the wide world. And Josephus says the Essenes were the first to proclaim the equality of all mankind and to denounce slavery. All right, welcome back to the podcast. Today I really want to talk about the Essenes. So Jesus was an Essene. John was an Essene, his cousin. All the followers of the way, true followers of the way, all the martyrs, they can all be, they were all Essenes. So Essenes were the keepers of the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were, you know, they were, they go all the way back, all the way back. So like Moses taught the law and the Essenes follow that law. So let me read you something from my Essene, some of my Essene writings here. This is, this was written in 1946, 1946. This was written in 1946. Happiness can never be the gift of government. Housing projects, controls of our economic structure, increased wage scales, and reforms of living conditions officially mandated does not even approach the problem. Happiness comes from within. It is therefore a personal problem and the solution rests with the individual. A philosophy of life based upon ethical principles there must be. Personal qualities therein is the field of endeavor. Simple goodness and a clear conscience is the simple answer. Selfishness is an insurmountable bar. Selfishness is an insurmountable bar. Listen to that. For as you give, it is given to you. The laws of sowing and reaping prevail in the mental and spiritual world and the permanent abode of happiness is therein. Let that sit in for a second. That was written in 1946. We've always known the answers to these things. Government was never the solution. Listen to that. Housing projects, this sounds like it could have been written today and that's because there is nothing new under the sun. The Essenes knew this which is why they follow the way. The way is to God. I know to a lot of people it sounds just so crazy because the world is spiritually dead it really is. All right so yeah let me read you the next one. Being afraid to live so often stems from dread of what someone may think or of not keeping up with the Joneses. The wise man of course cares only what he thinks of himself and isn't concerned with whether the Joneses get on about roller skates or in Rolls Royces. Living requires being yourself. Complete independence of soul. Channing Pollock. So again you know this is 1946. These are some old papers here I got. Just like the book over here we read before. You know these are interesting writings. You know just like the book the Bible says if you seek it you know you will find because you know he'll grant you the wisdom if you really really want it. It's tough out there in this world so that's why the Essenes like kind of left every time they would kind of enter Rome they'd end up leaving because like look what happens. We always know the answer it's in it's in the Bible it's in other history books it's in it's in it's in your movies it's in TV it's in everything guys it's in everything because it's a it comes full circle all the time. You know morals when morals fade or get corrupted then eventually society has to fall or whatever you want to call it. In a movie it might be a little town might be a little household whatever it is but when morals fall things have to fall with them and then it has to be rebuilt and only things in God only things in God last forever. So in saying that you know I want to talk about a couple movies today because last podcast we talked about the Hays Code and how that led to kind of the golden age of Hollywood but it was kind of through this like moral code that brought that in but at the same time you know from the start of it directors and producers and the you know the powers that be in Hollywood were always trying to push the boundaries and get around it in some ways you know which is which is what which is what's going to always happen that's just what's going to happen. So that's what those laws were in place for the moral code right it's not technically a law because this was a free you know for obviously that's the reason why we have the MPAA today the rating system was because the Hays Code broke down and eventually they just had to take the rating system which was like they just slapped a rating on it and said this is the age that you is appropriate for this you know to watch this from the government standpoint again but what does it say the government doesn't know the government can't give morals to your kids obviously they you know that's just that's just not the function of government but you know let Caesars be Caesars right anyway we'll go into this movie Night of the Hunter Night of the Hunter 1955 Robert Mitchum Shelley Winters and an old and like an older silent film star that came back I don't know if she ever left really but Lillian Gish she plays the god the godly woman at the end of the film or well halfway through the film but it's a story about a roaming pastor that's basically a serial killer so this movie was made in 1955 this was already at the start of the decay of the Hays Code so like I mentioned last week our last podcast was that the Hays Code got challenged in the early 50s 52 I believe by a movie called The Miracle and The Miracle held up in court based on the ruling of the first amendment and this kind of ushered the new the first wave of directors to kind of push the boundaries of this but the thing about this movie Night of the Hunter is is that it's a great movie it's got it's got the morals like the bad guy loses in the end and the god the godly people win so these are the kinds of movies that are moral tales right we shouldn't watch them as kids we should watch them when we're strong in our faith so that we aren't subject to thinking that things are not like these things are normal you don't want to you have your kids thinking that there's like roaming pastors that are going to come and murder you murder your parents because that's what the movie is basically about the the movie is about um here spoiler alert if anyone wants to go watch it pause here obviously go watch the movie um but i'm gonna get into exactly what the movie is because this will be kind of like a movie review as well since that's what that's what my background is i worked in tv for over 15 years um i worked on shows for history channel a lot of reality tv and um so i i kind of understand the industry from that from that perspective i've directed i've director you know been the director of photography on other shows camera everything i've done i've done most the jobs on a set so i i understand that world and so when we think of films like this you you understand the artistry and the creativity behind them as well right because all things start this is where i'm going with this was that all things start with god with their creative right because god can create right and so the devil only imitates so that's where i'm going with this film is that this is one of the first movies that got kept getting copied over and over and over and over again like the same similar story eventually where it's just the devil where the the moral of the story is broken down and i can tell you you know even the next film a movie like cape fear which stars the same guy robert mitchell and uh and this is a few years later this is less than a decade after night of the hunter and it's already doesn't have the morals because there's no it's it's just it's the same similar story about a guy stalking a family but it's it's a revenge story and there's not there's not got you know this movie was rain again remade again cape fear was remade by scorsese in 91 or 90 91 and even then it got even even pushed the boundaries even further you had like some really risque scenes in that which pushes the boundaries of you know the moral code and again like this is art right but at the same time like these things influence people how people perceive life and then it literally does break down the moral code of society it does it just becomes normalized like these things become normalized like we wonder why these things are normal today and like and people complain but it's like you guys have been watching it and seeing it witnessing it your whole life so it is ingrained in you that these things have are normal like this is i know this is hard for people to understand because this is how we live we go to work we go to school whatever we interact with our our friends our neighbors our family our co-workers everybody on a daily basis we watch our own we watch our entertainment everybody has their own entertainment scrolling whatever it is you know movies scrolling youtube whatever your form of entertainment reading roller skating whatever it is you interact with people right so these these things have influence on you they just do everything has an influence on you so we have to fill our influences with more good so that we become righteous so that the bad eventually goes away so this movie night of the hunter robert mitchum spoiler alert is a pastor or so he says he is preacher a traveling preacher he's got tattooed love and hate on his knuckles right and he tells this crazy story of like why why the why his tattoos or his knuckles are tattooed like that interesting part of the movie it's so good um but when he's in jail one day after the scene of a of a man who robs a bank gets away with his money and uh he takes it home hides it in his daughter's um he has it in his daughter's like stuffed animal little doll and then he tells the kids like never to tell anybody and then he gets caught and he goes to jail and then he gets sentenced and then they execute him before that happens he is like sleeping and he kind of you know dream talks and the pastor the the con man is in the same bunk he's in the same jail cell with him and he overhears and so he gets the idea to go take this it's 10 grand time this is like whatever it's the early 50s a lot of money back then but this is the whole point of like what people will do for money but like this dude died for one stealing it and this is a commandment breaking so it's like there you go this is this is this is the reason why these old movies at least tell the moral tale of what's going to happen to you hey you steal money look this is what happens to you right and then the widow is visited by this pastor once he gets out right because he he knows he you know he is obviously talking to this dude and he knows where where he's from he goes there and uh he um he talks to the widow and he kind of yeah he woos the widow right and he marries the widow eventually so he becomes a stepfather to the kids and he knows that the the kids or somebody knows where he knows where they know where the money is so he's just biding his time and so the widow thinks she's getting closer to god which she actually is because she's she's believing everything and she believes that he's righteous so she's following in in that path so she's getting closer to god but she doesn't realize that he's he's of the devil she doesn't have the eyes to see so she doesn't see through through this guy yet because she wasn't righteous she was a you know she wasn't a righteous woman most of us aren't righteous i wasn't righteous before either like every one of us is born of the flesh we're all sinners so we all have to be reborn so so one day robert mitchum's character actually does he's a serial killer right so that's what he does those these widows for their money and he kills her and this is this scene is later seen in late in in you know in cycle a few years later um when the body's found it's found by her uncle the like the old man down by the it was down by the river basically but he finds her body in the in the in the water he sees the body in the water in the car which is exactly what the killer does in psycho or in bait he murders the women puts them into the into the lake into the swamp or whatever and it's the same kind of style of sequence so hitchcock either borrowed from he knew about i mean this was a big movie in 1945 night of the hunter robert mitchum was a big actor he was a big shelly winters was a big actress at the time well obviously william gish so he would have seen this movie being you know so again i'm not saying hitchcock wasn't a creative dude but the idea is that things get pinched all the time from the really creative the original right tell you obviously like a guy like you know i used to love tarantino's movies i had this conversation with a friend of mine the other day he used to love tarantino until he found out that he he took a lot of his movie ideas from other films especially asian cinema i i say these things don't bother me like you know that's what that's kind of that's kind of what all these artists do and they pinch from other artists it's not it's not a good thing should create from the soul should create from the holy spirit that's the true creative force like i was saying said in the last few podcasts that's the true creative force you shouldn't need to steal from others at all right the idea is paying all you know like an homage to your artist that's that's that's a different story but my friend was saying like he's you know tarantino just straight up like takes all the whole whole scenes and we were talking about kevin smith too and you know that's funny we're talking about kevin smith is kevin smith's big clerks and i love that movie based on the fact that he you know he made it for twenty eight is really believed and when you look at the law of you know of of moses of god the laws that were in place the reason that it succeeded was because of their belief he put in all he put in everything to that and he believed in it and his friends believed in it and of course it was going to succeed because of that belief that's how it works it says it says so in the bible no matter what if you're not a believer like these are people hit the lottery right like if you obey the law even unknowingly and you do the you know you're creating and you're creating happiness like things will happen good things will happen so robert mitchum's character going back to the film murders a widow so now he is the the father to these two kids and but the son just know he's like i gotta get out of here because this dude's gonna kill us basically so you know he he takes his sister with the doll and heads down to the river on the on the water story of moses same thing and it's funny because uh that's what happens when they're found by the the lady the the older lady william gibson's character she talks she tells him that you know finding him was like finding it was like finding a little moses on the river the water or with the with the boat in the boat and um she knows she's a godly woman she reads in the bible she's obviously taken she's taken in a bunch of other kids she's got like five kids she's taking care of so she's really good she's a godly great woman and um one day we'll skip ahead a little bit uh you know obviously the pastor finds out where they live this is these are back in the day where the towns were small so you just head down to town until you find them he knew they were on the river so um he finds them in this town he goes to her and they do this little back and forth eye thing and he she sees right through him because she's a godly woman she's a righteous and so does the boy his children are innocent for the most part the one kid that doesn't see through him is the teenager that's fall that likes boys he so she falls for the charm of the older man so she doesn't see through it the old woman sees right through it she sees right through that dude so she's she's got the old shotgun and this is like i mean i've seen this in horror movies i can't talk to my friend chris he said he saw halloween four um in theaters back in the late 80s and i was like that movie that and when he said that it reminded me of the scene where she's sitting on the and this has happened in multiple movies it's not just that movie but it was the same thing like waiting for the boogeyman to come like she's sitting there with the children in the house and she and she's sitting in the chair with the uh with the shotgun waiting for him and of course he comes and she shoots the guy and then she calls the cops and they get him and um yeah it's so the moral you know she went she she there's more movie there but i'm skipping to the end a little bit like uh so the moral is it like sees she the godly woman sees through it the kids see through because they are closer to god because they have innocence and they have the holy spirit their hearts are unhardened so this movie has it all you know and then the bad guy really does lose all the people that sin lose in the end like because the wages of sin or death you know the the widow you know goes to heaven because she she's murdered basically which is i mean like there's no there's no there's no answer for murder like it's it's crazy that that people justify murder these days they they justify it in war they justify it in so many things like even in the movie like there's the mob like they want to do dead like after they find out like so you know that's the that that's where you're going to get but i have to say even jesus you know jesus forgave jesus forgave his murderers the people that were murdering him so this says that our souls are immortal and our flesh just doesn't mean this is just temporary temporary thing our flesh so let's skip here because that was that's you know night of the hunter 1955 robert mitchell so like i said you know you see this in later movies i just mentioned a few psycho you see the scenes like from the car just the crazed killer like you have even have the end sequence where he's in the um uh you know he's being like question like questioned and on trial and like all these old movies used to have trials for the when the bad guy gets caught and that's a good thing because it's got you got to have you got to show the moral and they talk about god all the time it opened and closed even with bible verses like so yeah um this isn't here i want to read this this is so good right here so and more some some more scene writings and then i'll finish with another uh we'll talk about another movie yeah it's uh it's another old movie 1951 montgomery cliff uh another shelly winters actually she's always playing the the victim really she dies in this movie too it's crazy so uh in a what's her name elizabeth taylor sorry so it's a again it's a moral tale this kid this kid is like a spoiler alert it's 1951 though it's older than my parents so you know montgomery cliff is this kid who he had god he had god but you know the thing is is that the he he wanted more than what he should have than what god was giving him and he he falls in love with the first while he's working as the normal uh uh you know just the normal worker and then when he gets promoted and he gets to the new extravagant life right he falls in love with the the socialite elizabeth taylor but at the same time like he had gotten shelly winters pregnant so she's like looking this is back in the day especially like you can't this is scandalous like so she's like we need to get married and he he's thinking about doing the right thing but he's now in love with the new girl and so he's he's completely out of order and this is exactly what the bible talks about like you know pride cometh before the fall he thought he could do all these horrible things which is never right like these are not right like you got this is this is wrong on so many levels and so you know he's gonna pay the price and you can see it waiting waiting on his soul so he wants now he's thinking now i gotta murder this girl to be with his other girl so he he plans out this murder and he you know she catches him and in his lies and he he's forced to almost marry her or he's gonna marry her or so she thinks and she takes him out or he takes her out on the boat and uh there's no witnesses or whatever and he can't go through with it but he went through with it in his so she gets up because she's mad and she knows that he doesn't want to be with her he knows she's only he's she knows that he's in love with this other girl but she's pregnant and this is this is awful this is like the worst thing that can possibly happen and you know this is yeah this is this is why yeah this is the breakdown this is a normal thing in society now like we don't always we're like this has happened before these are these stories have happened you can't we can't deny that something like this hasn't happened in real life i can't name you a true story right now but i can guarantee you that if i looked it up there'd be a story like this and that's happened in real life so she she dies on accident even though he planned it but he couldn't go through with it but she gets upset they fall off the boat she can't swim he doesn't know how to swim he doesn't know how to walk he doesn't know how to talk he doesn't know how to talk he doesn't know how to talk to a rescuer and this is why it weighs heavy on his soul so the whole time he leaves he goes back to the other girl he's trying to move on his with the his life but obviously they're on to him immediately they're the cops are just picking up the trail they find the body then they trace all the all the steps back to him they catch him they have another trial he's found guilty and at the end his mother who's a god-fearing woman comes in to talk to him and bless him before he dies is executed and she asked him you know like are you did you do it and he didn't even know but then the you know the other guy there asked and he's like well there's only one person to know he's like you know basically he's like no and he sat there and he's like i didn't save her he's like then you did it with your heart man like you did it like you could have saved her and that's the that is the 100% truth that is 100% the truth because again it's like there's so many bible stories you can you can go back to but there's the samaritan right and people passing by the person i mean you see it all the time in our society you see homeless people on the side and people just drive on by they don't help them you see people pass out on the sidewalk no one helps them it's horrible and so that's like that's the same same idea here yeah it's heavy these old movies are and the funny thing is is that when you watch these old movies like that the morals are so heavy because they you know they were still implementing the moral code into these things so you had to have those things for the most part right the code is already breaking down they're already pushing the boundaries obviously but like we don't have that anymore these days the bad guy wins in so many movies and the idolization is normalized money is normalized all the thing is normal is normal like yeah like this movie showed that you know look what happened over money like all these murders happen over money lies stealing cheating everything all over money and lust and all this and all these these sins all sins lead to death so let me read out of this last part um by the end of the podcast so what now what connects us with god our thoughts what gives us the use of the great power which has put upon this planet all that every one of us needs forever our thinking god is a 24-hour station all you need to do is plug in plug in with your thinking unselfish thinking okay and then you have and you can use all of the love all of the power and all the courage and all the energy all of the cheerfulness all the activity all the kindliness of god right if we are irritated doubtful fearful angry resentful or worried and we are expecting we are expecting evil heaven is within is within our own thinking the formula will bring its inevitable results okay so if we are happy courageous cheerful unselfish and sure of our rights as god's children that formula will have its results too faith is the expectancy of good fear is the expectancy of evil and let that sit in and i'm reminded of another movie there's a movie called donnie darko that's a more recent movie that's within the last 30 years it's jake gyllenhaal late 90s got jake gyllenhaal his sister maggie gyllenhaal um drew barrymore is the teacher it's patrick swasey's in it um there's a lot of there's a lot of actors in that movie they're popular anyway uh the patrick swasey character in that movie it's funny because he talks about there's literally only two feelings or two emotions and it's like was it fear and love or something yeah fear and love and he's right and he's he's actually right they're right about it and the god-fearing woman woman in that movie it's funny she sounds like she's the crazy person just like most god-fearing people do like in the secular world the god-fearing person sounds like they're the crazy person in fact they're just trying to save everyone's life for the most part because or their mortal soul because everyone sins on a daily basis so like if you're a sinner and even if you don't like sin even if your sin isn't crazy like i like i mentioned before like some of some of us don't realize how easy it is to sin so what if you just died that day randomly like would you go to heaven or would you go to hell that's the whole point of being connected 24 7 like you're always good to repent you're always good to go to god you're always good to to to pray because he's always listening he is the almighty right so we got to always look within i mean i could read some more of this because uh it is interesting like a definition of tolerance the definition of tolerance is recognition of the right of private judgment and religious opinions and nodes and modes of worship differing from those of the established church freedom from bigotry the definition we love and which lifts it from the field of pure mental diagnosis is tolerance the most lovable quality any human can possess the vision that enables us to see things from another's viewpoint the generosity that concedes to others the right to their own peculiar peculiarities right it's late two in the morning the bigness that enables us to let people be happy in their own way instead of ours yeah tolerance so we taught we do tolerate so here's the thing this is a long lesson here and it talks about we can tolerate we can tolerate the sins right because everyone is on their own journey that's what we talked about was you know soccer because i cannot i cannot teach anybody i can only make them think right so you can't tell anyone they're they're sinning so if you tell them it'll just become an argument right you can only show them show them the way be a guiding light be an example for them pull your pull your friends and family out of it instead of going with them right it is very very hard as johnny cash said to be a christian because uh or a follower of the way christian is such a blanket term these days yeah that's that's it like they knew that everyone was brothers and sisters that melanin content didn't matter that we all came from adam and eve that there was one god he is the true god the almighty that jesus gave his you know jesus gave his life for our sins so that we could be saved and have a way to the father because everybody's a sinner and based on the old law based on the old law we would all go to hell so that's why jesus is so important and that's why we all need to start following the way and start giving up our sins or vices we need to stop arguing with our neighbors we need to stop arguing with anybody really you start loving everybody start doing the right thing all the time and yeah that's it for this episode thank you guys god bless and uh as jesus would say shalom peace be upon everybody
