But first, the neighborhood in southwest Atlanta in the dark tonight after tree
falls on top of power lines and a transformer all during the storms we
saw earlier this evening. Thanks for sticking with us for Fox five news to
10. I'm eric Perry. This happened on Selwyn Avenue in southwest Atlanta and
Fox fives. Larry Sproul is live in that neighborhood. Larry, you're talking with
neighbors there and we see that tree behind you. Good evening eric. This
entire neighborhood is without power. That's because of this large tree right
behind me. Take a look right over here at the roots. It was literally ripped
out of the ground. This tree landed and blocked this entire road right over
here and landed on those power lines and that transformer right behind me.
Now I spoke with one neighbor. She tells me that she just got home around six
in the afternoon. She turned on the lights and she heard a large boom and
then she walked outside and saw this. Take a listen. Oh sir, listen, it was
raining, the wind was blowing. I went into my house to turn on my lights and
I came out and I noticed that my backlight went on. I said, no, I'd put
the backlight on. I went in the house, came out and I said, oh my God, I can't
even get out. It happened so fast and I asked my neighbor across the street, I
said, are you okay? She has two small kids. She said, yes, I'm okay. And um I
looked over to my cousin's house and on the line is this tree on our lines and
the lights went out. But I'm thankful that I call my aunt say call channel
five. I said, oh yeah, I need to call them. I'm grateful that you all came and
I talked to you on the phone and you came right away.
Now, the good news is no one was hurt in all of this and I did reach out to
Georgia power. They tell me they are aware of this tree and this power out
in this neighborhood. Now, I did ask them for an estimate and when it comes
to getting the power turned back on, they said they did not know at this
very moment because they are working several parts of the city, but they will
be working around the clock to make sure that this neighborhood and the
power is turned back on as soon as possible. We're live in southwest
atlanta tonight. I'm larry Sproul Fox five news. We're grateful she reached
out to us. So many people in the dark tonight. Larry Sproul, thanks so much.
Those storms also passed through was well this evening, leaving a trail of
destruction behind there. You can look at some of these photos here is fallen
tree on Addison drive damage to a fence surrounding the yard. Roswell fire
responding to the area and have reported no one was hurt. I do think
that's the good news here tonight. Trees going down across the metro, but
no injuries to report tonight.
