with stories that matter to you. This is Fox six wake up news.
Now it ain't more agencies are fed up with the clock. The city is stepping
away from the cameras and how Milwaukee officials are responding.
It is the 23rd annual Kenosha classic cruising. Look at all these cars. You
pick one and they got it here. We're gonna share all the details of the
special events and the community coming together coming up.
King Milwaukee. We are trying to take a live look outside. There's a few
things blocking us. The biggest thing there is a fog in the sky. Stephanie
Barkello. Okay, where's all this coming from? When I, when I was on my way into
work, I was like, I can barely even the visibility is so low in Milwaukee,
right? I mean, when is this over a couple more hours and I think it will
get better. It's all thanks to our air temperatures, the same as our dew
points, you know, temps have dropped, but dew points haven't. So with very
little wind out there, there's nothing, nothing to push on all this moisture.
Is this a good Labor Day weekend? Now this isn't gonna ruin, right? No,
absolutely not. We have a fantastic weekend forecast ahead. In fact, you
know, Milwaukee is one of the lone spots dealing with the fog. Not
everybody has it. Kenosha's Lakeshore Carthage College looking beautiful. We
still have cloud cover elsewhere, including here in Brown Deer and up
north into Sheboygan. But as far as the lowest visibility goes, it really is
across the city of Milwaukee and then far inland. We're going to start to see
big improvements here in the next hour. Milwaukee again, still down to
about a half a mile, but will likely start to see that improvement in the
next hour or two. Otherwise, across the state, we have just a few more
lingering clouds will see sunshine by later this afternoon and evening. Just
want to point out there are a few sprinkles over the lake. So with some
of this lingering cloud cover this morning, not out of the question to
have a couple of sprinkles here there, but most of us will be dry. It's still
going to be a humid day. We see relief from that tomorrow. So just know, even
though air temperatures are going to be better today, it is still going to
be human cloud cover through your lunch hour. Then we'll start to see some
sunshine the second half of the day. Temperatures will range from seventies
to low eighties. Bria. All right. Thank you so much. Staff were following some
breaking news this morning. Uh, well, right now. Also, we want to tell you
about this story here. So take a good look at your screen happening now. A
green alert is asking for a missing veteran at risk. 49 year old Thomas
Val Gordon was last seen leaving his Hell's Corners home around 10 30 this
morning. We're told he sent a message resulting in serious concern for his
safety. He's willing to be driving a red jeep Grand Cherokee. If you have
any information, you're asked to call Hell's Corners police. A shooting on
Milwaukee's north side leaves one dead. Milwaukee police say they were called
to 12 and key for around 6 30 last night. They say a 37 year old sustained
fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police continue to
investigate the cause of the shooting. M. P. D. Says they are looking for
known suspect. If you know anything that may help M. P. D. Would like to hear
from you. Our big story this morning. Six more law enforcement agencies in
southeast Wisconsin dropping flock agencies in Racine and Fond du Lac
counties joined the growing list of groups terminating their contracts with
flock cameras. This comes as distress between these agencies and the flock
system, with several police chiefs saying they didn't realize the extent
of the data flock collects. The Racine County Sheriff Christopher Smiling
says his office thought flock only stored data from the cameras for 30
days, but the company confirmed it keeps separate data going back five
years. Was in it. Mike Wool says that crossed the line.
The public trust is so much more important than however many dollars
might be on the line here. I think flock is in serious. It has serious
problems right now, but we have a duty to serve and protect the community.
Alpers is a tremendous tool to help us do that, but we're not gonna put public
trust at risk in Fond du Lac County. The sheriff's office and police in
Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Ripon and Waupon all announced they too are
ending their contracts with flock. A joint letter released yesterday said
they were in law enforcement agencies and other states released information
about active investigations here without their permission by responding
toe open records request. They joined Sheboygan and Kenosha counties with
which are both asking their common councils to cancel existing contracts.
The Milwaukee Police Department, who's had three officers get in trouble for
allegedly abusing the system, says it's keeping its flock contract at least for
now. But yesterday, MPD unveiled a new public facing dashboard. This is called
the transparency portal. You see it there. It shows the number of cameras
in use, how many searches police have done in the last 30 days and how
many license plates have been linked to stolen vehicles, crimes or missing
persons cases over the same time frame. The website adds Milwaukee police only
retain its flock data for seven days until a Milwaukee County supervisor is
calling on the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office to immediately
disable its flock cameras and in his contracts. In a statement yesterday,
Justin Valensky says residents should not have to wait for another
disclosure before we act. Even if you have confidence in the Sheriff's
Department's use of flock, the question remains, do we trust flock itself with
this information and coming up on wake up Iran honoring first responders who
lost their lives during the 9 11 attack. Sheboygan first responders will be
joining us to talk about how you can contribute to a good cause.
All right, we'll be right back.
You're watching weather first with meteorologist Stephanie Barkello. Good
morning everybody. 808 on your saturday morning, starting with somewhat cooler
temperatures but still very muggy outside right now. Most of us are
sitting around 70 degrees but that's also where our dew points are. So a
handful of communities dealing with some fog Milwaukee specifically some
dense fog. So watch out for that as you're out and about. Otherwise still
some lingering cloud cover starting to see a few sprinkles north of us can't
completely in the next hour or to rule out a couple of sprinkles here locally.
But most of us will stay dry and just await the clearing clouds that we will
eventually see later this afternoon. I do think through midday we'll still
have that mostly cloudy sky then eventually become partly sunny. Now
Milwaukee temperatures around 77 80 inland. It's just that humidity that's
going to stick around lower dew points tomorrow. More sunshine, a beautiful
holiday weekend in store. I'll have more details coming up. What is that?
All right, Steph, we're having some fun in the studio because it's time for
adopt a bet. Rachel Hahn from the Wisconsin Humane Society joins us live
in the studio with a very special guest. We have a wink here. Hi wink. Say
hello. You're gonna wink to the camera. Yeah, this is wink. So wink is two years
old and only about £7 and it's absolutely adorable. Wants to meet
everyone in studio this morning has been playing around this tennis ball.
She is spayed. She's vaccinated. She's microchip. She'll be available for
adoption at the Wisconsin Humane Society's Milwaukee campus when we open
at 10 a.m. Today. For more information on wink, you can head over to W. I.
Humane dot org slash adopt. Honestly, such a ball of energy. What kind of
family might she do well with? Yeah, honestly, I think wink would do well
with pretty much any family. As you said, ball of energy, really sweet,
loving is just looking for a great lap to be able to sit on and someplace to
be able to ramp around and get that energy out. We also want to talk about
because you guys, honestly, I'm amazed how you constantly have something great
going on. Let's talk about the virtual rehoming. Yeah, absolutely. So if
you're not finding your match in our shelters, we do recommend that you try
our virtual rehoming site. So the home to home website, it's a third party
website. Um, and that allows people who might have animals in their homes
currently who can no longer keep their animals to actually market those
animals directly from their home. I know you have so many things to say this
morning. What's great about that is that the animals can look for a new
home from the comfort of their current home. Uh, and then, of course, as a
squill and a bark, isn't that so cute? I know. And then, of course, the best
part about rehoming to through that virtual rehoming website is that the
owner knows really a lot more about their animal, right? So they can help
really tell, you know, potential adapters about all of the great things
about their animal routines, habits, things that would be helpful to know.
And for us, what that does is it helps make sure that we can care for the
thousands of animals that we care for every year who don't have an advocate
to support them. So if you're not finding your match in shelter, head on
over to the home to home website. It has over 130 animals right now who are
waiting for home. So a great way to be able to find a new pats and one more
time because wink is like you guys are not gonna leave me out of this. She
wants to be heard. I love a girl that's just loud and proud for those who are
just joining us. What campus is she available at? And, you know, give us her
character. Yeah, absolutely. So this is wink. She's available at the Wisconsin
Humane Society's Milwaukee campus. We open at 10 a.m. Today. She is sweet,
adorable. She's got a great little voice on her, and she's ready to find a
new home. Thank you so much for being the both of you to wait. Stephanie week
wants to know what time she needs to go outside for her walk today. Anytime is
fine for wink. Oh, she is just so cute. It's a little foggy outside right now.
A lot of moisture out there, so you're going to be wiping some muddy paws as
you bring your dogs back inside after their morning walk. But drier
conditions in the forecast not only this afternoon, but the next couple of
days. Now you can see the problem here. Air temperature 72.70. Not a lot of
wind to push all that moisture around. So Milwaukee specifically, still
dealing with some lower visibility and denser fog. We're down to about half a
mile. It's relatively isolated, though just about all of southeast Wisconsin
at full visibility, with the exception of Waukesha and even visibility out
west towards Madison and Janesville beginning to improve. So Milwaukee, I do
think we'll see that improvement here in the next hour or two. It's going to
take some time for clouds to decrease. That may not happen until later this
afternoon, but just know that better conditions are on the way. Watching a
few light rain showers out over Lake Michigan, it is possible these skirts
some of our northern Lakeshore communities in the next couple of hours
while we still have some of that cloud cover. That's more so just some
lingering moisture from the system that moved through yesterday and then
notice out west how thick that cloud cover is with this complex of storms
that was strong and severe earlier this morning. Now it's weekend, but
that cloud cover extends now all the way into western Wisconsin. So it is
possible again, even through the rest of the day that we hang on to, at the
very least, a partly sunny sky. But bottom line, great holiday weekend
ahead, especially Sunday and Labor Day itself. Let's check in with sky vision.
So cloud cover through about your midday hours. Then those clouds will
start to decrease. Wind will be off of the lake, so we'll see a range of
seventies lakeside to around 80 as far as temperatures go in inland areas
overnight. Tonight, most of us will clear things out. We're looking at
mostly sunny and very calm conditions for your Sunday. Even temperature is
going to be a little cooler for your Sunday and same with Labor Day. More of
that partly sunny sky breeze still off of the lake. Most spots looking at
upper seventies to low eighties. We still have a very summer like forecast,
but it's going to be better than all of, you know, this past week with that
high humidity and storm chances. Now, most of us have temperatures in the
low seventies, but we will continue to climb into the upper seventies, maybe
even low eighties throughout the remainder of your afternoon, with
warmest spots inland overnight tonight, noticeably cooler. I think that's what
we all want, right? Still the warm afternoon, but the cooler night, cooler
morning temperatures will fall to low to mid sixties and then tomorrow
everyone, even Lakeshore communities will be in the seventies with similar
conditions than on Labor Day. Now, unfortunately, dew points are still
gonna take some time to drop. We're going to stay pretty muggy today. You
can see the downward trend later on this evening, but it's not really until
tomorrow and even Monday that we see dew points in the comfortable range.
They spike just a little bit Tuesday with our next storm system, then begin
to fall again. Your full six day planner showing the fog this morning,
then the afternoon sun temperatures in the seventies and eighties. Beautiful
Sunday into Monday. Then we heat up Tuesday, Wednesday will have a storm
system move through Tuesday night into Wednesday. But beyond that, we look to
drop right back to pleasant numbers in the seventies. All right, thanks,
Steph. I know 8 15. We're taking you back out to Kenosha for the classic
cruising, which gets started in just under an hour. And some businesses are
all ready, getting ready for the rush. Andrew Boosley joins us live from
Kenosha and talking about you're talking with local business owners and
a longtime supporters of this event, right, Andrew?
Yeah, that's right, Bria. And I should mix that in with the weather here
because I'm not gonna lie. I made a very bad fashion choice. We were walking
over here, so I have to roll up my sleeves while we do this. I'm over here
enjoying my day of advisors, pizza and now. Why are we outside of this place,
especially in regards to cruising? What's the connection here?
We actually, uh, fallen. We feed the volunteers every year. We give gift
certificates to, uh, the people who go ahead and organize this so that the
people who and they don't have to eat today, they can eat whenever they want
to. But we try to give gift certificates out to everybody because it takes a lot
of people in the community to get this show going on. Yeah, and I feel like
that's the world
long.
I mean, this is what Kenosha is all about. You guys have been here for a
while. Well,
since
been like to not have this year. Um,
it's like this pop up right in front of your shop. Oh,
now this cruise. No, I'm not really learning more about cars and everything
like that. Your favorite part of this entire event. We have so many people
that come from Illinois, but also keeps that don't usually come down. We're
having a few Mike issues there, but nothing to worry about. We're gonna
check in with Andrew Muzu again around 8 45 or so. He's out of Kenosha doing
all the things, having all of the fun, and we'll be right back with a very
special event that you need to know about this happening in Sheboygan
County next weekend. See
back to weekend. Wake up, guys. It is 8 20 on this fabulous Saturday morning.
It's Labor Day weekend, folks. A very foggy start to the morning, as you can
see out there. But Secretary Margello says eventually the fog is going to
move out, and we're gonna have a great warm, maybe even hot, perhaps a Labor
Day weekend.
Well, almost 25 years ago, thousands lost their lives in the devastating
attacks on September 11, 2001. That includes countless first responders who
died in the line of duty. The Tunnel for Towers Foundation honors those who
lost their lives that day in Tusha, Oregon. First responders are here to
talk about how you can help their cause. Good morning. I want to thank
you both. Sheriff, I want to talk to you. I want you and Lieutenant. I want
you both to introduce yourselves to her audience here. I'm Sarah Lieutenant for
the Thomas Sheboygan Fire Department. I'm Matt Spence, Sheboygan County
Sheriff. And when we talk about 9 11 before we get into the event, I think
that we've starting to. We reached that area where a lot of people growing up,
they weren't around and they weren't born there. But take me back to when 9
11 happened. Where were you and what were you feeling and what was going
through your mind at that time? I was just a child. I was only one years old
at that time, so I don't I was not remembering what happened that day.
But you're one of the people I was just talking about, right? Yeah. Yeah, I
was in college, uh, sociology major. So it really kind of understand the
impact that was gonna have on our nation and really globally. Um, you
know, the attacks on on our home front. But even you being one years old at the
time. Now you're a part of this cause, right? Right. You are rallying to
support those that lost their lives and really just this moment in time that
just devastated our country. So many still reflect on. Obviously, as we look
ahead to 25 years, what's on your mind now as someone who you weren't aware
when it was happening, but now you are right. The Tunnels Towers Foundation is
so important because they raise money to help any first responder that is
injured or killed in the line of duty, and they raise money to help pay for
their homes and help things mitigate what they need help with after those
tragic things happened to them. So I'm very passionate about this foundation
and what they're doing for the first responders now. And they started
because of something tragic, but they keep keep raising money to help going
forward. And Sheriff, what's your why? Why? Why are you rallying behind this
cause? So our first responders give a lot every day, a lot of personal
sacrifice. Um, it's the right thing to do to to honor their memory, support
the families that are affected by sometimes tragedies when the first
responders do raise their hand and respond to that call for service. So,
you know, the foundation does just that. It's it's positively impacted, you
know, a number of Wisconsin first responders as well. Yeah. And when we I
want to get into some of the details of the event, we have them on the screen
right now. Is it? Is it too late to sign up? I know you guys were wanting
people to sign up, wanting people to get involved, and we're actually gonna
try to be there live next weekend, too. So you have something to look for to
then we're gonna see you guys getting ready for the big event. But what's the
sign up process right now and give us the official event details? Sure, it's
not too late to sign up. You can even sign up the day of when you show up. It
starts at nine a.m. Next Saturday at the town of Sheboygan Fire Department on
County Road Y in Sheboygan. And it starts at nine. You do a five K walk
and then after there's brats and burgers and different things going on
after at the firehouse, too. Yeah. And Sheriff, when we talk about the
sacrifice of first responders, could you even maybe put yourself in those
shoes for just a moment? What is it like to run into a crisis? Something that
you have done, I'm sure thousands of times in your career. Put us in that
mindset of you already. Obviously, you have the people that were inside of the
two towers, and then you have the thousands of first responders that were
relentless and going and making sure that they were still protecting those
that were there. Yeah. So, you know, fortunately, I haven't had the situation
like the Twin Towers. But, you know, every situation is unique. And we're
really, I guess I'm glad we have a supportive community. But that's why why
we serve. We both serve. We, you know, go to the situation where nobody wants to
to go and serve just to help our community out. Much like, you know,
Stephen Tiller. Yeah. The reason that this foundation is here, you know, got
off from shift that morning. Rose raises hand. He was going to go golfing
and ran to the Twin Towers from where he was at almost three miles. Henceforth,
the five K that we have. Yeah. Wow. That's just so incredible to learn that
story for those who are watching at home. Each of you answer this. Why
should they come out and be a part of this event? It's a very we do a huge
opening ceremony, very moving. We have guest speakers coming to talk about
their experiences with 9 11. And then it's a great, great cause to support.
Can you share? So one of the great things about our nation is we don't
forget, you know, take the time to remember the sacrifices, but then move
forward and grow from there. And it's a good supportive community to to really
get out. Remember our fallen, support the families and move forward. We will
never forget. Thank you so much for both being here with us. And I'm hoping
that someone's watching Tunnels of Towers five K run and walk. This is
happening next Saturday from 9 to 11. Thank you both so much for being here
with us. Thank you so much. Thank you. All right, we'll be right back with
more. We can wake up on the other side of the brain
with stories that matter to you. This is Fox six. Wake up news. Good morning,
everybody. Weather first on your Saturday out here on the weather deck
where it's cloudy, a little foggy and certainly muggy. But Brown deer has not
been as foggy as Milwaukee. We are flying above some of that fog right now
and low lying cloud cover from our Estabrook Tower cam. It's gonna improve
here in the next couple of hours. And you can see most of southeast
Wisconsin doing just fine at full visibility. Lowest is in Milwaukee and
then walk a shot down to about three miles. It is still very muggy and
unfortunately that is going to continue today. So dew points stay in the upper
sixties. Tomorrow we feel relief with dew points only in the fifties and that
will then linger into your Labor Day. So cloud cover going to stick around
through about your midday, then a slow decrease in cloud cover eventually
becoming partly sunny temperatures in the seventies, lakeside to around 80 in
inland areas and the rest of your Labor Day weekend looking lovely. We have
plenty more sunshine for Sunday and Labor Day itself on Monday.
Temperatures tomorrow will be in the seventies Monday like today in the
seventies, lakeside to low eighties across inland areas. So despite the fog
in the cloud cover this morning, the weekend overall, it's looking fantastic.
I'll have more on your full forecast coming up for you. All right, that's
what we like to hear. Staff time now, 8 30 on the dot. After seven days of
deliberating, the judge declares a mistrial in the Lindsey Clancy
homicide trial. Jury announced yesterday they could not reach a
unanimous decision on whether Clancy is criminally responsible for killing her
three Children. The judge has set a hearing for September 29th where the
defense is expected to ask for a not guilty verdict. Prosecutors could move
to put Clancy on trial for a second time or potentially seek a plea deal.
In the meantime, Clancy will return to the psychiatric facility where she's
being held. Employers were hiring in August and the job market rebounded.
There were a surprising 162,000 new jobs created last month, more than
triple the expectations. The unemployment rate held a 4.1%
restaurants, bars, construction companies and manufacturers all added
jobs. The White House rolls out new arcade style games this week. The White
House website is now home to an online free arcade featuring five free retro
style games, promoting aspects of President Trump's agenda. Some games
mimic others well known arcade game style games like Flappy Bill, similar
to Flappy Bird. Some political communications professors say they
believe the White House is trying to use the games to shift voter focus
ahead of the midterms this fall. They added the administration may also be
trying to distract from more major issues. So if you're outside of the
Trump cinematic universe, this is a thing that you're going to look at and
just feel annoyed by and then maybe feel annoyed that he's spending our tax
dollars on this too. The games are now available to play for free on the White
House's official website. Madison's mayor says she plans to fund body
worn cameras for police in the 2027 city budget. The issue coming to the
forefront following the July police shooting of Corey Ruiz on Thursday.
Ruiz's family, their lawyer and state representative Sheila Stubbs spoke out
against the city. They say the city opportunities to start a police body
camera policy but still haven't. Stubbs claimed the city did not apply for a
state grant program that became available in 2022 and said the Common
Council voted down a proposal to fund cameras through a budget amendment in
2025. When given the opportunity time and time again, the city of Madison has
failed to make the investments necessary to equip officers with
critical technology.
The mayor says calls to operate the system has been the key issue with
starting the program. She has quote the lack of options provided by the state
makes adding anything new to our operating budget, particularly staff,
very difficult. The mayor also said Madison police plans to apply for the
federal grant program to purchase the camera equipment. The Milwaukee
Election Commission releases new records related to the august primary
incident. A high ranking city election official uploaded audit logs onto five
of the nine flash drives instead of the actual election results. City Election
Commissioner Polina Gutierrez says it was human error. The city released data
from the central count tabulators yesterday. The results show in the
timeframe when the error took place, the number of ballots being counted did
not change, meaning nothing was tampered with. There is a plan to
discuss this at a special meeting. The state is having Wednesday morning at
seven. Of course, we'll let you know what comes with that. After the break,
a Labor Day treat that will have everyone going back for more. It looks
so delicious. I'm looking at it right now. Kelly's catering will be in the
studio to talk about how to make it. Is it a lot?
I hope this car is a lot. Look at this. We get some really cool access. We're
finally getting into a car. Look at this. Oh my gosh, this is vintage style
right here. This is the 23rd annual Kenosha Classic Cruising. We're
continuing the motion with this and we have some really special guests coming
up talking all things about this event coming up. That is a good looking car.
Live. Look outside right now. The car looks better than the weather. We can
all agree on that, right? But sunshine is in the forecast for later today. We
just gotta hold on a couple more hours. I'll have your full Labor Day weekend
forecast next.
You're watching weather first with meteorologist Stephanie Barkello. Good
morning, everybody. Happy Saturday to you all. 8 37. Now is the time
temperatures are in the seventies right now. 72 Waukesha 70 in Milwaukee. Very
across southeast Wisconsin. Dew points, unfortunately, are still high. As you
step outside, you are met with that high humidity just like we have had all
week long. But we finally see a break from that tomorrow. So still one more
day of that humidity and then feeling better Sunday into Monday. Once we get
rid of the cloud cover, sunshine is in the forecast for later this afternoon.
But you expect cloudy skies through at least your midday hours, and that fog
should really settle here and start to move out in the next hour or two.
Temperatures will climb to seventies, lakeside, low eighties in some of our
inland areas. Thanks to that northeasterly breeze and beautiful,
calm conditions still in the forecast for the remainder of your holiday
weekend. I love those details in just a few minutes.
See you then, Steph. I know 8 38. She played multiple sports through middle
school, but when she reached high school, she helped her team do
something for the very first time. That's why this senior is this week's
Fox six high school hot shot. Aubrey Peterson. I go to Sussex Hamilton.
And I'm a catcher on the softball team. I did like T ball when I was very
little, around five. And then I started with junior charges on the catcher.
Yeah, it's really interesting to see the different personalities of each
pitcher. Sometimes I get a really talkative pitcher who, like, I kind of
need to, like, rain into focus, warming up sometimes more. And then other
times I'll have, like, a more focused dialed in pitcher.
A lot of the girls on the team I've played with at junior chargers. It
really didn't feel like we were playing softball really much. It just
felt like we were just playing like a wiffle ball game in our backyards,
just hanging out. My favorite memory is winning the state championship. We
made history.
I just did not believe that we did it. And I thought that I was dreaming. And
I had to wake up, but I didn't. Yeah, the trophy has been having a lot of
fun this summer. We've brought it to some of the camps we posted, and I
believe, like, our graduating seniors are bringing it to their grad parties
to put on display and just having some fun with it floating around.
So I recently committed to UW-Whitewater to continue my softball
career. I'm majoring in psychology and minoring in German.
I'm also in some clubs. I'm in NHS. I make cards for kids in the hospital.
What else? I'm in German club, German National Honor Society. And then I like
to read in scrapbook. The way that I do it is I go like every month, basically
print out my entire camera roll for that month, and then I just fill up my
scrapbook with different memories that I had, and then I'll save them for later
when I'm older, and then I can revisit the memories.
Hi, I'm Aubrey. I am a senior at Sussex Hamilton, and I'm on the state
championship softball team. I am this week's Fox six high school hot shot
Alpeter saying
way to go. Aubrey plans to pursue a PhD with a focus on sports psychology. You
can do it. Keep going. And the hot shots in the Brewers will be taken on
the Cubs at American Family Filth this week, including another brew crew
Tuesday right here on Fox six. The game is at 6 30, but be sure and tune into
Fox six news leading up to the game for all sorts of pregame fun, and it
gets pretty competitive. So you don't want to miss out on that. We're all
morning long. We've been taking you out to Kodosha for the classic cruising,
which officially gets underway in just a few minutes. Andrew Moosley joins us
live now for downtown Kodosha with another business owner who is excited
to see just how much this event helps business. Good morning, Andrew.
Good morning, Brea. First, let me let me just make sure that all my
microphones. Okay, we're good now, so hopefully you can hear us and we'll be
able to share the excitement of this next segment here. Now we're joined by
Russ of Southport T. He's rocking this black T shirts. I mean, that's hilarious.
I think that's great. You're already off to a great start. Um, you are from
the Kenosha area. You're from. You're from this area. Yeah, you've talked
about before we get into the business. Just how much this event means to this
community. Your memories as well. He sort of explain what that's been like,
especially from from your point of view. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, longtime
Kenosha resident. I always brought my kids down here, my wife and kids. We
come and check it out every year. My dad was born in Kenosha. My grandpa
worked at the A. M. C. Factory here in town for 30 years. I've got his
retirement watch in the store. So, yeah, it's been a big part of our lives.
And, uh, it's just fun this year. I just opened in April. So first year
being on the other side of it. And, yeah, this is just always such a fun,
great event. Yeah, I mean, that's a perfect segue. What is that? Like
being able to now see it from a new point of point of view? You always used
to come here as a participant. Now, as a business owner, the first year from
this side, it's exciting. Yeah, it's it's it's just it's great because it
brings so many people down to, you know, enjoy our beautiful downtown and see
it. It gets bigger and better every year. And it's just it's so fun seeing
it and what, you know, what, you know how much it adds to the local business
community down here and Kenosha as a whole. Yeah. And even before this life
that we're like, okay, it's pretty much 20 minutes until the whole thing
starts. But you're seeing all of these people doesn't sort of give small
businesses, especially in this area, some encouragement, like, okay, we
might get some some people walking into our own shops here. Absolutely. Yeah.
Yeah. It's a huge draw. And yeah, like you said, like it's not even open.
This is just great. This is this is awesome. So, yeah, just two people to
see what we've got down here and everything we have to offer. Like, this
is awesome. Yeah, that's a that's a perfect thing that you mentioned
because many people think about the different shops and everything like
that. And we were just walking up and down this street as well, seeing all
the cars, but also all the businesses here. As far as your business goes,
what can people expect as soon as they walk through the doors? Yeah. So we're
we're Kenosha's only loose leaf boutique store. So, yeah, we have loose
leaf tea. We've got over one hundred and twenty varieties here. We've got
sniffing jars. You can come in and get free smells and or sniff for free, I
should say. Trademark. But yeah, no, it's we've got one hundred and twenty
kinds of tea. We've got free samples of iced tea on the weekends in the
summer. We're building a tea bar in the back. So in the future, we can do
events and host parties and have like some to go service and stuff like
that. So we've got teaware, teapots, matcha, all sorts of stuff, everything
tea related. We're loaded with with puns and dad jokes. There we go. Give
me one of those. I don't know why I'm still in this sweater. Listen, I'm
sorry, Fox's weather experts. I should have listened a lot better. You also
have a drum set over here. What's the story behind you? Oh, yeah. So this
building used to be SJ Crystal's men's clothing boutique. And the owner, Lou
and SJ Crystal's, Lou and his wife, Donna, they were here for over twenty
years. Wow. And they always had the band out here for the car show. So the
organizers approached me like, hey, can we keep the band going? Yeah, of
course. It's part of it's part of the Kenosha tradition in the car show. So
yeah, the band will be here and come on down. Yeah. History inside history
right here and all around downtown Kenosha. Thank you so much, Russ. Thank
you. And this black t shirt. I was obsessed with that shirt. Back to you,
isn't that such a good part?
That's a great part. I love it.
I mean,
it's really effective. Dad jokes. That belongs in the Hall of Fame of dad
jokes. It really does. We've got green ones, too. Oh, yeah, there's green
tees, too. He's giving it. He's giving Ted Perry around for his mind. Right.
Exactly. I love that. Okay. It's our Labor Day weekend, Stephanie. Finally,
you're bringing the sunshine. I love this pink on you. Oh, I mean, are we
we're gonna be smiling all throughout the weekend with the weather. We are.
I know it's not beautiful outside right now. We still have fog. We still have
cloud cover, and it's still humid. But by this afternoon, all of that begins
to change. We will see sunshine towards the afternoon. Tomorrow is when we feel
relief from the humidity. So it is coming. Just have to be a little bit
more patient. Now the fog has really improved, too. You can finally see the
city of Milwaukee. Hey, that's some great news. Sunshine trying to peek
through in Kenosha. Everybody else still pretty overcast. It'll still be a
more hours before the clouds begin to decrease. But by the afternoon, partly
sunny conditions in the forecast, visibility hasn't changed number wise.
But as we just saw from that life camera in Milwaukee, it is improving
as we speak. So we should be pretty much done with the fog here. Just
waiting for the clouds to decrease through your midday hours. Now there is
cloud cover out west to thicker cloud cover, I should say, thanks to a complex
of showers and storms that stays west of us. That's why we'll still likely see
a partly sunny sky going forward this afternoon. The stationary front of the
stalled front that we have had sitting over our area all week long, as
expected, has finally shifted towards the south, which is why we're looking
at dry conditions today. And then the reason why we stay dry the next couple
of days. We've got a high pressure north of us that's going to start to
move in our direction. It's going to turn the wind off of the lake, so we'll
actually be a little cooler. We'll feel that drop in dew points. So looking at
fantastic conditions the next couple of days. Let's check in with Sky Vision
plus right now. Look at tomorrow's weather today. Cloud cover through
about your midday hours, then decreasing partly sunny conditions
breeze off of the lake. Still humid, but dew points will begin to drop later
today. Sunshine from start to finish on sunday. Still a light lake breeze dew
points in the fifties and we do it all over again on Labor Day. In fact, our
next rain chance holds off until Tuesday night. So even the bulk of
Tuesday is looking good, but temperatures will begin to heat up
Tuesday. Monday is still going to be pretty pleasant with highs in the
seventies and eighties. Now, temperatures haven't moved much this
morning. Still 70 in Milwaukee, 72 Waukesha, a little warmer towards
Burlington. But from here we will likely see a mix of middle and upper
seventies lakeside to around 80 in inland areas, maybe even up to 82 in
some of those far western communities. Look at overnight tonight. This will be
a really nice change. Inland temperatures are likely going to drop
to low and middle sixties. So a pretty refreshing start to the day
tomorrow as compared to what we've had the last couple of mornings and then
everybody will see temperatures in the seventies on sunday monday, much like
what we experienced today with that mix of seventies and low eighties. Now, dew
points will still be high for this saturday, not as high as the last
couple of days, but still upper sixties. Then we'll feel much more
comfortable sunday into monday. We see dew points spiking briefly with a new
storm system Tuesday, but then beyond that they drop again and temperatures
will drop again as well. So your full six day planner showing temperatures
in the seventies and low eighties for today, we will eventually see sunshine
throughout the afternoon. Also looking good sunday on into monday. At this
point, Tuesday night into Wednesday will be our next round of showers and
thunderstorms and you can see the heat that accompanies that storm system. But
beyond that, we fall right back to seventies. Okay, perfect weather for a
perfect Labor Day weekend. We're celebrating Labor Day, but it wouldn't
be right without a tasty spread. Kelly's catering is here joining us
live in studio and you've got a gooey butter cake recipe that will keep
people coming back for more and more for those who may be having, you know,
a holiday festivity at their home. Yeah, so this is a ST louis cake. It's
called a gooey butter cake. So it's a cake bottom, which is like a cake mix,
two eggs, two sticks of butter. You put that on the bottom and then you take
cream cheese and you mix that with powdered sugar and two eggs and you
pour it on top. The bottom is kind of sticky. It's hard to cut out of a pan,
so it's better if you put parchment paper on it and then you can take it
out and cut it. We didn't do that on that one. That's why these look a
little messy. Okay, so then you just put the cream cheese mixture on top of it.
The bottom part is very sticky. So when you put it on, you either need like
butter on your spoon or if you're using your fingers, whatever you're going to
use because it sticks a lot. What makes it gooey? The cream cheese and the
cake. It's not like a full cake mix. It's more, it's thicker, kind of like a
brownie. Okay, so instead of following the cake mix on a box, you really just
use two eggs and two sticks of butter and you mix it and pour it, spread it
on the bottom. Then the cream cheese on the top, which small over and then you
bake it. So I change it, you know, I've used different cake mixes. I use, you can
start with the cake mix. So you start with whatever flavor cake mix you want.
The original gooey butter is just a butter cake with this topping. To change
it up because everyone should make their own, you can use lemon, you can use
chocolate, you can use a confetti cake, you can use butter pecan. My favorite is
using the butter pecan base and then I put a salted caramel apple pie mix, the
pie filling and then this on top. So this is, I'll pick up two good pieces. This is
the lemon and this is the play on a black forest. So it's the chocolate, the
cherry pie filling and then the cream cheese on top, which you want to try.
Lemon. I'll take the lemon. Can I ask how this all started? I was visiting my
friend Stacy in St. Louis and I took her a caramel cake and she was like, can you
give me your recipe? And I'm like, yeah. And she let me taste this. I'm like, can
you give me that recipe? Yeah. So she sent me, she sent me this probably 20 years
ago and I told her, I said, you know, I made this my own because I feel I can't
recreate or no one can recreate someone else's recipe. This is fantastic. You
know, you don't use the same. I might not use the same butter. My oven cooks
differently. I might mix it differently. So you cannot duplicate someone else's
recipe. So instead of trying to match theirs, make it your own. And so that's
what I do. And you take this to festivals. She's at Juneteenth. She's at
festivals all over Milwaukee County, all over really the area. You were in
Strawberry Fest. Yep. Tomorrow we're at the Greenfield Farmer's Market and
we're going to have some of these because I made a lot. So we're going to
be at the Greenfield Farmer's Market tomorrow. It's on 51st and Layton and
it's from 10 a.m. To 2 p.m. So we'll have the lemon, the black forest and
we'll have the original. And I always try to gauge when I find the YouTube
videos to teach me how to cook things in the kitchen. How would you rate? Is
this easy? Oh, it's very easy because it starts with the cake mix. Sure. It's
simple. It's very simple. The hardest part is the bottom because it's so
sticky other than that. And I definitely suggest putting parchment paper down so
you can pull it out and cut because it's a hard cut. It's not. It's very it's
gooey. So as you can see from the pieces, they get a little messed up trying to
get it out of a cake pan. So definitely do it on parchment paper. Pull the
Okay. Kelly Catering. Thank you so much for being here. You're welcome. Thank you for having me. Of course. Just got a final look at your forecast on the other side of the break. That's right. This is so good. I know.
He's just like us.
Glad everyone's okay. Okay, the fog. Oh, this is a promising sign of getting better. Everybody happy Labor Day weekend. We'll see you tomorrow.
