Mayor Mamdani signing two executive orders today related to the upcoming 25th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks. Fox 5's Morgan McKay here now with the details. Morgan.
Now, Mayor Mamdani was joined today by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tish and FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignor.
The first executive order Mamdani signed officially declaring September 11th as an official citywide day of remembrance and service.
The administration will designate a certain time on September 11th for a moment of silence honoring those killed on that day and for those who have since continued to suffer from 9-11 related illnesses.
The second executive order modernizes the city's official plans on how to keep government running during emergencies for the first time in almost 20 years.
The last time this was updated was under former Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2007.
The executive order requires every city agency to formulate its own continuity plan every two years.
If these two executive orders hold a shared message, let it be this.
When we say never forget, we do not mean it in the abstract.
It is a sacred vow to those we will always mourn the heroes who ran towards horror so that others could run towards home and to every New Yorker who showed such immeasurable solidarity and courage 25 years ago.
And we'll learn more about the mayor's plans for that day next week, next Friday in the coming days.
