Members of the band Daisy the Great give a guided tour of their tour van, \"Sleek Neenie,\" while discussing their current tour supporting Tosh Sultana and the upcoming release of their reimagined album, *The Rubber Teeth Talk with Friends*, on July 17th.
This is for Kelly, but his name's Tipple because he tips.
You just have to know when to use the hole and when to not.
Hello, we're Daisy the Great. I'm Minna. I'm Kelly.
This is our van. This is our graveyard.
Our van's name is Sleek Neenie.
We're on tour. We're on tour right now supporting Tosh Sultana.
This is our last date with Tosh and then we have a headline date tomorrow that's added.
In two days.
Or in two days, yeah, but it's been really fun.
And we put out an album last year called The Rubber Teeth Talk
and we're releasing a new version of that album July 17th called The Rubber Teeth Talk with Friends
where we got our friends who are artists to reimagine all the songs with us.
The first one's out already. It's Frankie Cosmas redoing Dog, which is the first song on the record.
Super cool. Do you want to see our van?
Come on in. This is the front.
This is my seat. I can't drive.
Kelly and I don't drive. I don't have a driver's license and Kelly...
I got my driver's license, but I'm still working on it.
You would think I'm good, but I'm just not confident.
She's from Manhattan.
What can you do?
What can you do? How can you practice?
I got my license when I was 26 and I...
It's nice when I have... I just don't have a car so I try to drive when I can,
but I get very nervous to drive the big boy with all my friends in it.
It's just a little bit much.
She doesn't want to kill us.
I did drive the other day.
She did drive. She drove through a city called...
Where were we if I didn't tell you?
I could tell you. Minneapolis.
You drove through Minneapolis.
That's where we got dinner, right?
Anyway, Kelly drove through Minneapolis.
Nine minutes home because Greg and Bree, who are with us, who are driving,
and they're taking shifts, and they're also taking video and doing merch sometimes
and also just being a good hang.
They're driving in shifts and they both wanted to get a drink at dinner,
so Kelly drove us home because we're responsible.
This is where I sit usually.
These are my shoes, some of them.
This is a purse that I got at Goodwill for $10.
This is James.
This is a man that we bought because we had a really interesting experience at a hotel
where I was trying to get some information from someone,
and they really didn't think I could possibly be the one in charge,
and they kept talking to Greg, who's on the road with us,
whose middle name is James, and the guy kept saying,
Stop talking. I need to speak with James immediately.
We kept going like, and Greg was saying,
My name is Greg, and this girl is the leader.
You need to talk to her.
Anyway, we bought this little James to be with us forever
so that we would never be without him.
And we would never forget the sexism.
This is a present for Greg because it looks like him.
I can't actually believe how much we have.
This is Tipple.
This is for Tipple.
This is for Kelly, but his name is Tipple because he tips.
These are my drawing stuff.
Yeah, I mean, okay, so I only have one thing in this
because actually a fan in Columbus
who is coming to the Cleveland show in a couple days
commissioned me to draw something for her dad
who is a big fan of us for Father's Day,
and she said that he likes...
We love this family.
Yeah, we love this family.
We've seen them at lots of shows.
His favorite things are his dog, flamingos, Batman, and our music,
so this is the drawing.
It's a pen drawing.
This is the dog.
This is a flamingo.
There's Batman.
This is a fish from a music video.
This is a flying truck from the song Time Machine.
That's from Mary's at the Carnival.
That's from Aluminum, a song of ours.
That's rubber teeth from the rubber teeth talk.
That's a lemon from Lemon Seeds.
That's Jell-O and a caramello bar from the song I'm Fine,
and then there's some daisies, and there's like hills in a city.
So we listened to, today we listened to Sydney Gish.
Yeah, that was great.
We listened, usually whoever's driving has the aux,
and we've been listening to Cheryl Crow.
Yep.
We've been listening to...
Brie really likes like...
O.K. Lou.
Yeah, O.K. Lou, Erica DeCassie.
She likes like hot girl music like Sade.
I feel like this tour as well, Greg and Brie
are a little bit more like chill on the music.
Sometimes more with...
We're touring right now as a duo,
but we tour often with a full band,
and then I feel like the music is a lot more like bumpin'.
It's a lot harder.
It's also louder, which honestly I kind of prefer.
Sometimes I feel like the music's too quiet in here,
and I put my headphones on and like take a nap,
because I think that this crew, we really like to chat,
and I think the driver feels left out if they can't hear.
Yeah.
So we mostly gab, honestly.
Like the music has been kind of backgroundy
for a lot of the tour,
because we're so fun to talk to that we...
Like we just have a lot of fun conversations.
Like what do we talk about?
Like our past, our trials, our...
Tribulations.
Highs and lows.
We like to talk about what people think of us.
Like these two?
Yeah, we go like, what do you...
Or they go like, what was your first impression of me?
Today we were talking about first impressions, when we met.
Sometimes we play guess the word I'm thinking,
but that gets kind of boring.
This is our gum.
This is like our third pack of this.
Extrapolar ice.
I only like gum until the second it starts losing its flavor,
so I get rid of it quickly.
This is a cherry dum-dum that I got
at the breakfast place we went to.
That place was great.
It was called Wood Shoe.
The Wooden Shoe.
And there was an antique mall attached to it.
In Holland, I think, in Holland, Michigan.
It was in Holland, Michigan,
and we picked up a present for Yogi,
who's, I think he's the production manager on this tour,
and we adore him, and it's his birthday today,
so we got him this, like, it's called a punky bear.
It's like a Thai T.Y. doll,
but it has, like, it kind of looks like its hair is, like, thinning.
Like, it's got, like, little, like, crazy...
It's like spiky.
Yeah, it's got a spiky vibe, but he's really cool.
So we got him that.
This is our box of food.
And, like, this food.
And this type of food.
This is great.
This is great on the road.
This is delicious.
Let's take a shot of this.
Here's some more food.
This is cool.
This is Greg's candy, sweet candy.
There's not much in it.
There's some fresh strawberries that are kind of dying already,
but they're from Grand Rapids.
It's our last day, so I feel like we're kind of...
We're kind of low on food.
We have...
Peanut butter.
Looks horrible.
We haven't looked at that.
That's for Omele.
So here's the living room.
Come, girl.
We cleaned it for you for today.
We're taking Polaroids a lot on this tour.
Yeah, we've been taking Polaroids on this tour.
This is one that's me and Kelly in a mirror.
And this is Chrissy, who was on the first half of the tour,
but she's no longer.
She's alive.
We dropped her in New York.
Yeah, and then Bree took over.
This is Kelly's hat that she bought.
It's really cool.
That's from a gas station.
And this is Chrissy's hat, and she left it,
so she's in the middle of it.
We need to get that to her.
She left this hat, so...
I'm always right there.
This is Kelly's seat, always.
I'll show you what it looks like.
It looks like this.
I'm always here.
That's her duck.
This is my duck umbrella.
That's the only umbrella in this tour.
This is...
Oh, I got a lot of records today.
I got, like, a million, billion records today.
Are they all classical?
No.
This is what I got.
Well, this one I got the other day.
A classic.
Hermes, Hermes.
Okay.
I got, like, a million.
It's because they were all, like, $5, but...
This was at the Antiques.
Yeah.
Where we got the punky.
Okay, we got Boston Pops.
We got water music.
Handle.
I think this seems so gorgeous.
I can't wait to...
That's a beautiful cover.
I know.
Okay, we have Brahms.
Classic.
Number two.
We have...
The Rosen...
Rosen...
Yes?
The Rosen...
The Rosen Cavalier.
Gorgeous.
Ravel, another gorgy.
We have Leonard Bernstein.
Amazing.
We have Carpenters.
And we have Mahler.
So, part of this is, my mom was an opera singer, and I saw all these classical records.
And I have, like...
I have a, you know, good enough collection of things.
But I called her, and I asked her for advice on what to get.
And, like, every single thing I said, she was like, oh, that's amazing.
I mean, some things she was like, no, don't get that.
But a lot of the things she was like, that's gorgeous, that's gorgeous.
She would be like, that one's so exciting.
And this one's good for just, like, listening casually.
So, I ended up with a huge pile.
But then they were all, like, they were pretty cheap.
So, I just went for it.
So, this is...
That's the living room.
And back here is the hole.
This is where you go if, like, you want to be alone or...
Greg lays down flat in the hole.
Like, he lays like this.
He lays down in the hole.
Yeah, like this.
This...
If you spend too much time here, you can get really depressed.
It's a good place to take a phone call.
I think I've only been back here once on this tour because on the last tour,
when I was in the hole, I got, like, really upset.
It's horrible.
I, like, was...
I was scrolling for so long, and then I woke up from a daze and was like,
I need it.
No one can hear you.
If you're back here and, like, you want to say, like, I have to pee,
Kelly advocates for whoever's in the hole.
I try really hard to be a representative for the hole person because no one
ever listens to them, and they'll try to be part of the conversation,
and nobody says anything back to them.
You have to use the hole wisely because it can be an amazing...
I took a call in the hole.
It can also be an amazing place for a nap.
You just have to know when to use the hole and when to not.
These are our waters, but we don't call them waters.
We call them Greg legs because the first time that anyone wanted a water,
we said, where's the water?
And we said, it's under Greg's legs, and so now they're called Greg legs,
and we don't respond to water.
So these are my shoes.
More of my shoes.
But I only brought a couple pairs of shoes on tour,
but then I went to a store the other day that had, like, everything was...
It was, like, a thrift store, and all the shoes were $10,
and I found some cute ones like these.
They're like sport flats.
These are actually my normal shoes.
The other ones are in...
I showed you in the front, and they're in the other...
Oh, wait, there's these too.
These are cute.
They're kind of falling apart, but they're cute.
I bought this scarf for my friend because she really wanted a big summer scarf.
I don't know if she'll like it, but she really likes this color,
so I think she'll like it.
It's for my friend Alex if she sees this.
This is for her.
It's cute, right?
I think she'll love it.
Just a little...
Wait.
Sound effects.
Nice.
So this is normally completely filled with stuff,
but we've loaded out, so it's empty right now.
Most of the way empty.
This is our ear rack that we don't need today because they have an ear rack for us to use.
This is Greg's suitcase, and everything else is in the venue.
Normally we have guitars and amps and merch and suitcases.
That's kind of it.
It's nearly the end of the tour,
so we've really started clearing out a lot, especially the merch boxes are way less.
It started out packed to the brim right here,
and now it's nice.
Because we're selling a lot of merch.
Yeah.
But yeah, normally we have two electric guitars, one acoustic guitar,
two blues juniors, and a 404 and a bunch of cables.
Yeah.
And a pedal board.
Thank you again for watching.
