he average gallon of gas nationally is now $4.14 -- the highest ever heading into Labor Day weekend.
Drive to the Jersey Shore is particularly expensive as the summer season unofficially
ends this weekend.
The average gallon of gas nationally now sitting at $4.14 a gallon, Delaware right over here
at $4.11, that jumped $0.12 overnight, and Philadelphia Metro sitting at $4.34, Jersey
at $4.22.
The high gas prices are weighing on travelers.
Action News reporter Kathryn Scott is joining us live from the Farley Service Plaza along
the Atlantic City Expressway.
With more, Kathryn, as people head down the shore looking at those gas prices.
I know.
They're pretty tough.
But people are still coming.
We're along the Atlantic City Expressway this morning.
Right now, if you're heading out, this is a good time to go.
Look, it's free and clear where we are.
AAA says the best time to travel today is before noon.
The worst time predicted to be between noon and 8 today.
Gas prices are tough, but people still plan on hitting the road.
Obviously, you want it cheap, but, you know, at the end of the day, nothing you can really
do about it.
I feel like we always feel the gas prices.
We're driving everywhere.
We have four kids, so we're all over the place.
Prices at the pump are soaring.
GasBuddy says this is poised to be the most expensive Labor Day at the pump on record,
with prices remaining volatile amid geopolitical tensions that have disrupted global oil and
refined product markets.
Yet, plenty of people are still heading down the shore.
Janet Tidwell from AAA spoke to 6 ABC and talked about some of the things you can do
to improve your gas mileage.
Take advantage of clubs and memberships that include gas discounts.
Also keep up with routine maintenance.
Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
Again, little things that help.
Make sure you're getting any junk out of the trunk, anything extra that's heavy.
The heavier your car is, the more gas it takes to move it.
And back here live, we're taking a look at the Atlantic City Expressway.
Jaina says historically, high gas prices don't keep people at home.
They go anyway, but what they do is they try to trim in other areas, like they dine in
as opposed to going out, or they stay with family and friends as opposed to going to
a hotel.
So whatever you're doing this weekend, have a great one.
We're live along the Atlantic City Expressway, Kathryn Scott, Channel 6 Action News.
Yeah, it'll be a good weekend.
Travel safely out there.
Kathryn, thank you.
