Ling Cod & Black Rock Bass Fishing In The Pacific Ocean With Cameron Black
Sep 4, 2026
Oh, a scoop of bait on the freakin' drop there, buddy!
What was that?
Oh, you hit a ton of them!
Oh, there!
Hey, good morning, everybody.
Welcome to another Addicted Fishing episode.
We're out here doing a little pre-season scouting
because we've got the new Columbia XL.
I've been waiting so freakin' long to get this thing salty.
And we're going to go do a little fishing today.
We don't got the best conditions out here.
It's still kind of early season, but being it's maiden voyage,
we decided to bring you guys along.
We've got Mason.
We've got good buddy James here.
He's used to more fishing.
And, of course, co-captain, deckhand, bucket cleaner laden.
You know, like, doing nothing as always.
Pretending to do something.
Anyways, we're going to go out here.
We're going to try to fill the fish bags with some white bait.
So let's get going.
Guys, once we get on it, we're going to drop these jigs down.
Try this for a little bit.
Like I said, it's not the nicest days out here.
But we've got the old Lancer jigs here.
Probably one of my favorite lane-caught jigs by far.
Nice heavy one.
We'll drop it down.
Once you hit the bottom, especially for Mason,
well, this goes for laden too,
if you feel anything, it's either the bottom or a fish.
And if you drag this along the bottom, you will snag immediately.
Here we go, pal-pal.
Look at those.
What are those?
We're about to find out, baby.
It's not me.
It's the reel.
Kind of like a left-handed reel, but you know what?
We can conquer and provide.
Drop it like it's hot, boys.
Drop it down.
I'm hooked up.
I got him.
I don't know.
I'm on something here.
Little me.
Caught me one.
Kim's on a blue and black.
You hooked up?
Yeah.
Baby Ling, we need to go find your big brothers.
Got to find big brother.
See ya.
Got him.
Reel him in.
Reel Mason.
Kill him.
Kill him, boys.
Little gap, gap, gap, gap.
Big gap.
Little bit.
Yeah.
One.
That's a Ling.
Holy crap.
Lancer jig just smoked.
Throw some pliers.
Look at that.
You think he liked that jig?
Did he?
Look at that, guys.
Yeah.
Y'all need to work on that.
Holy crap.
First Ling ever?
Yeah.
First Ling ever.
Here we go.
Wing caught.
Here we go.
Barely got him hooked.
Now we're going to go for a boat ride.
And look.
It's past the black line.
So it's not.
That's not my fault.
Grab on.
Tight, tight, tight, tight.
We're hooked up, baby.
No way.
Dude, get the gap.
Yeah, I'm not joking.
We're ripping.
We're ripping line.
And the harpoon.
Because I'm a gangster.
Gangsta's paradise or something like that.
P-I-M-P, baby.
You know that one saying when they F around and find out kind of deal?
That's this.
Blade is on.
Oh, oh, oh.
I'm in park.
You see that?
Holy cow, dude.
That's a thick one.
Keep that one.
We're going to go get these with light spinning rods later, but that one goes home.
Oh, I'm already up.
I got a fish.
Oh, easy release.
Easy release.
release. Now we're cooking with Spam. I didn't say Spam, like Spam, like what you
eat. Isn't it Pam or is it Spam? You know the cooking spray. Now you're cooking with... I think it's Spam. Is it Spam or Spam? Spam is the meat.
Spam is the meat. Oh boy. You're cooking up there brother, you're cooking up there.
We're done then. What was going on there? Look at the point on that gaff bro, it don't work from top down.
He tapped the top of its head. Hey, you're like one of those buoy tent net jumpers.
We're green as green when it comes to gaffing, alright. I'll admit it. Hey, if you ever want to come out with more fishing on bottom fishing.
Just know you're going to have a great adventure. You know what, we're on baby. All day's work, Mason's on.
Big fish. Definitely not a starfish. They're so crazy looking. We're going to like them around here.
Give him a high five. Good eating there man. Good couple first little drifts there. It's kind of a little sporty out here.
But I wanted to kind of give you guys a quick rundown on what we're doing. We're using the Okuma Seydros rods.
These are the 65 to 150s. And what we're doing is, what I'm really out here doing is testing this equipment.
Because we're going to fish barren off here again. See Joel and the boys up in Alaska here in a couple weeks.
Wanted to give these a good run through and see how they work for bottom jigging.
Because we're going to be doing a lot of that up there. And then I've got this Okuma Cortez black reel.
Has capability of holding 300 yards of 65 pound addicted enforcer braid.
And these are just basically good meat stick rods. Whenever I need to do oversized sturgeon or sturgeon in the Columbia River catch and release.
Anything like that, it's a great rod for that. And then also, as you can see, for tugging on these lings, bottom fish, halibut, small halibut, stuff like that.
The 65 pound braid, obviously because we're down in the rocks, you want something strong.
And on that last fish, that was a 4 ounce or a 6 ounce mooching lead to just some 40 pound fluorocarbon and two 4 odd addicted salmon hooks.
I've got a lot of them. So, you know, we use those and they tend to hold the fish pretty good.
And then of course, if the boys are just running jigs and running those lancers, all we do is we tie straight to the braid.
Take a black sharpie if you want. The bottom fish really don't care.
And kind of blacken out a little bit of that tip, just so you can get a little bit of stealth down there.
But again, these ling cod, they kind of eat. So, yeah, that's kind of the setup.
So if you guys have any questions, too, about any of these Akuma lines, you can go ahead and message me, too.
I'll get back to you. I'll get you the information you need. I'll always help you out.
So we appreciate those guys over at Akuma a lot.
Bassmaster Classic. Pro bass fisherman.
Take a little snack break before I throw these people off.
We'll see if we're a little bit better at the old bass fishing than we are at the ling cods.
Even caught a couple lings, but this is Bassmaster Classic now.
What's happening over here?
I can't feel anything.
Except that.
Fish. Except that fish I just felt.
Cut the camera. Cut the camera.
I'm telling you, the taste will be ruined.
This is a big one. Oh, oh, look. It was a big one.
Oh no, look, it broke off my lure.
Yeah, it did.
Oh, it's a bass.
Just choked it.
Just did a little choke job on her.
Woo, boat flip.
So we moved in here because out there was getting a little rough.
So we're kind of up against the jetties just being a little bit protected here.
Catching some black bass.
But I wanted to give you guys a quick run through on this, too, because, you know,
we buy these Akuma Guide Select 761Ms, which are our twitching rods,
and they just sit lonely on the shelves, unused,
from fall fishing all the way to the next fall fishing.
So we decided to come out and give them a workout.
These things are fantastic.
Bottom fishing rods for using light bait.
I've got a three-quarter ounce head.
And, of course, our good friend Clint, Skookum Baits,
makes these little swim baits for me.
When you look at my box, this is the only color you need.
It's fantastic.
He makes it out of the hard plastic, so you get a lot of fish catches out of them.
They don't come off the collars or the hooks either.
So, of course, pretty blue, pretty silver.
The bass love them.
And then I just go to a 15-pound monofilament line.
You can use braid, but, honestly, when you're out here throwing at these guys,
if they decide to eat that bait, they're going to swallow it,
and you break off a lot, and you don't have to sit there in tight bumpers.
You can go with straight braid, like a green braid, too,
but the model's a little easier for clients to, like, break off
and just kind of tie back up and get fishing.
So, yeah, pretty basic setup, 3,000 Kymar reel.
Yeah, put those old twitching rods to work.
Skookum Bait on the creek.
Now, this gap, you can go from the top and kind of hit them like that.
We're not trying to, dude.
Gaps and me, I'm more a harpoon kind of guy.
Oh, look at that, Skookum Bait out.
So, see where the rocks are breaking there?
They are right there, dude.
Holy gripes.
Holy gripes there, boys.
Oh, wait, you guys should all be fishing.
Oh, you're all broken off.
You're all broken off right now.
Well, I'm just sitting here just catching these giant black bass.
Giants.
Want me to give you this one?
Ooh, little zippy zoomy.
Ooh.
I found them.
Oh, look at that spike.
Look at that.
He had that Skookum.
Skookum.
Skookum Bait just freaking.
Skookum.
Skookum Bait there.
Linc, Linc.
Big Linc or non-big Linc?
It's not a big Linc, but it's a purple Linc.
It's a blue Linc.
It might be.
Oh, yeah.
Just fish it like you're fishing a craw on the bottom.
That's how you tell clients.
Just fish it like a craw, dude.
Put that old craw daddy on.
Linc lost another fish today.
Yeah, that's so true.
I haven't seen that yet.
Is that how you lost your bass tournament?
Is that how you got second at the band, bud?
Nope, it's a good Linc.
Black Rock is 415.
2.2.
All right, guys.
So you guys saw ODF and W samplers came through, just ran through the catch.
You know, there hasn't been a lot of Linc on the bottom fish brought it in,
so they had to do the weigh and the length sampling, but that's, you know,
that's good that they keep the stock in check, you know,
making sure that these fish are going to be here for many years.
You know, this was our first day out, of course, like I said,
and honestly, I'm very encouraged.
There's plenty of fish out there.
I'm really looking forward to the summer season.
If you guys wanted to go for a boat ride, be sure to check out Gone Catching Outfitters.
We'd love to take you out.
We're going to be doing this for a few months this year.
We've got warm temperatures in the valley.
Come join us on the coast to catch these fish.
Hope you guys enjoyed the video.
See you guys on the water.
