What happened after Tash moved from New Zealand to France? A year after we first shared her story, we return to see how one unexpected connection changed everything.
When we last met Tash, she had recently moved from New Zealand to Limoges and was still discovering whether it would become her permanent home. But after her first Real French Connections episode was seen by another New Zealander and passed on to a friend in rural France, Tash received an invitation that would completely change her plans.
That invitation brought her to a small village in the Dordogne, where a weekend visit led to new friendships, a new community and, unexpectedly, a 300-year-old house that she decided to make her own.
Now, we return to Tash to discover how life in France has changed since her first appearance on the channel.
In this video, Tash shares how she went from renting in Limoges to finding what she describes as her own little corner of paradise in the French countryside. She talks about buying and restoring an old French house, becoming part of village life, improving her French and finding the confidence to navigate everyday life in France independently.
Most importantly, Tash explains why finding the right place to live in France is about more than finding the perfect property:
“You can find the house you want… you have to find the village that wants you.”
In this episode, Tash also reflects on:
How her first appearance on our channel led her to the Dordogne
Why she decided to leave Limoges for rural France
The unexpected story behind buying her 300-year-old French house
Finding friends and becoming part of a French village community
Restoring an old French property without modernising its character
Working remotely for her New Zealand employer while living in France
How everyday conversations have helped improve her French
Buying a car and navigating daily life in rural France
Why her priorities have changed since first moving to France
What she has learned about being flexible when building a new life abroad
If you're thinking about moving to France, retiring in France or starting a new life in the French countryside, Tash’s return to Real French Connections is a reminder that finding your home is only part of the journey, finding your community can be just as important.
