Developing tonight in Central PA, the alleged ringleader of a Penn State
cocaine trafficking ring. That's what authorities are calling it.
Granted bail today and his attorney says he could be back home as soon as tonight.
He's one of two people charged in the alleged operation who had preliminary hearings today.
Fox's Pete Cudahy in court for both hearings outside the courthouse now.
Pete, what did you learn today?
Good evening, Sheba. Well, the Attorney General's office called multiple witnesses who are also
charged in this case, and their goal today was to paint Abulato as a basically the biggest
drug dealer on Penn State's campus. Now what they say he did, they said he traveled from New York
and Philadelphia, then brought cocaine back to State College to sell.
Lars Zipfatt, one of Abitello's fraternity brothers who also faces charges,
testified today and he said he sold cocaine for Abitello, adding that they called him,
the godfather because of the large amounts of cocaine he had.
Now Thomas Robinson, a former member of Delta Upsilon at Penn State, who's also facing charges,
testified as well, saying he bought as much as a kilo of cocaine from Abitello.
Robinson said then he resold and sometimes with the help of fraternity pledges bagged it.
Now detectives initially targeted Robinson, but after arresting him,
they turned their focus to Abitello when Robinson told them he was their source.
However, the judge found that he was not a flight risk and today they granted him bail.
I'm happy with the way things went today. My client's going to be posting bail soon
and I think we saw the real true center county justice at work
and it's my pleasure to represent Augie Abitello and his family. Thank you very much.
Now that wasn't the only preliminary hearing that happened today. Also,
Paul Robinson, Todd Robinson's father, he was also in the courtroom and he faced three charges
for tampering and destroying evidence and then also interfering with an investigation.
Well, after the judge listened to testimony, he kept all of those charges.
In Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Pete Cudahy, Fox 29 News.
