This has MASSIVE implications for the Lions....
Sep 3, 2026
Well, the Lions got some bad news yesterday on the injury
front, and it could have devastating consequences could
trickle down all the way down to the special teams. As we head
into the regular season opener against the Saints coming up in
a week and a half. We're going to dive into what the
ramifications of yesterday's injury news is on the Lions that
and more on this edition of Lions Digest. Hey, everybody,
yours truly Captain Lou here. Again, want to take a moment to
welcome everybody who are checking us out for the first
time to Lions Digest. And I invite all of you hit that
subscribe button. It's free. We'd love to have you part of
the daily conversation. The response and the viewership has
been off the charts. It's been amazing. I love it. We're
showing why we are one of the most passionate fan bases in all
of professional sports, not just in the NFL. And again, welcome
to Lions Digest. All right. As first reported by Adam Schefter
yesterday, Isaiah Pacheco, the offseason signing for the Lions
at running back, the supposed new Knuckles was put on injured
reserve. So that means he is going to miss at least four
games for the Lions as they start the regular season. Now,
again, we mentioned, we all know, we've talked about it
ad nauseum here on Lions Digest, the injury history for Isaiah
Pacheco. It's lengthy. Most recently at the end of last
year, with the fibula injury, which made him miss the last
half of the regular season. He was healed from that. So Brad
Holmes and the Lions took a chance by signing him in the
offseason. Well, the MCL strain at the beginning of training
camp, and now the back issue. That's kind of scary. And what
else doesn't exactly raise my confidence level up is what Brad
Holmes said in the press conference on Wednesday.
According to Jeremy Reisman, Brad Holmes saying Isaiah
Pacheco is steadily feeling better, but won't give a
timeline for his return. When asked if they still expect him
to play this season, Holmes says, Yeah, that's the hope.
I'm not exactly doing cartwheels. When I hear that,
that makes me think and I know this is, you know, maybe a
little bit panic mode. I'm not expecting Pacheco back at all
this year. When he when he sounded squeamish and not
really given any kind of timetable, not wanting to make
any hopes on it or any promises. That scares me. So that means
now expect a big load for our Sonic, for Jameer Gibbs. I could
see him now getting 400 touches that that to me is not out of
the realm of possibility. So I'm telling you what right now.
That's why I'm going to ride with him with our brand new
partner here on Lines Digest and that's Kelsey and I'm going
to trade yes for him to get over 1250 yards in this regular
season. Now when you're trading with Kelsey, you're trading
directly against other users, not the traditional sports
books. You're buying yes or no contracts on outcomes of events
in sports, politics, the weather. And so again, taking a
look at what I just mentioned with that trade 1250 yards this
year for the for Jameer Gibbs, that's been trading right around
50 to 48. And so it's almost like you know, it's a pretty
positive trade. And so if you're going to trade $25 on Isaiah
Pacheco, or I'm sorry for Jameer Gibbs, to get over 1250 yards,
your return is going to be $49 and 26 at the end of the year.
Now, why do I say $25? Well, that's simple. If you're
interested in trying out Kelsey, use the link in the video
description, and trade $25 with the code digest NFL, and you get
$25 added to your account instantly. It's that simple. All
the NFL games are starting up soon. You're on Cal here. And
every one of them trades with Kelsey. So again, Brad Holmes
has got some decisions to make, right? What is he going to do
with the running back number two position? Now, let's take a
look at what we've got right now for the running back position.
We all love Jacob sailors, right? He's, he was the darling
of training camp. She owned Bakke. He's gonna get his chance
to shine. And what about Jamari small, five running backs on the
roster. Now we know why Brad Holmes had five running backs on
the roster. They must have had an inkling. But check this out.
All three of them combined for an NFL career in regular season,
seven carries 29 yards. So how much does that scare you for
potential RB two for our new knuckles? One of those three. So
I ask you, should they potentially trade for another
running back? Should they try to make a trade? Here are some of
the available opportunities for the Lions pay possibly, some of
them are RB threes out there in the market. Ray Davis, AJ Dylan,
come on. Come on. He Vidal, Ollie Gordon, Kendrie Miller,
Devin Singletary. Any one of those maybe kind of, I don't
know, pick your interest a little bit. If you're the Lions,
and if you're Brad Holmes, was still some time left in training
camp. But again, what would you do? I'm going to ask you the
question right now. Would you make a trade for one of these
new running backs? Or are you content with what the Lions have
going into the regular season opener behind Jameer Gibbs? Now
that Isaiah Pacheco's out for at least four games, and my feeling
is he's going to be out a heck of a lot longer than that. Even
if it's the rest of the regular season, would you trade right
away? Are you content with what we have? Are you going to be
well, let's wait and see what happens in the first couple of
games? Or you just don't trust Brad at all. Let me know in the
comments. I would love to see what you have to say. Be a part
of the conversation for the Lions and up here on Lions
Digest. What do you think is going to happen? I think they're
going to try to write rapids with Jacob Saylor's first or
potentially Bakke as the backup. So with that being said, what
about special teams for the Lions? What is Brad Holmes going
to do and Dan Campbell with the kick and punt returners? We
talked about it yesterday. Jacob Saylor's was that potential
guy to be the kick returner. He took over at the end of last
year for the Lions averaged about 27 yards, a kickoff
return for the Lions. Well, if he's thrust into that role, as
the number two back, the Knuckles, going to see a lot
more action. Who would you have as your kick and punt returner?
Now, reading in some of the platforms and listening to Brad
Holmes talk throughout the week, they've are really
enthralled with Tay Martin. He could be the new guy as the kick
returner for the Lions. Here's the problem with that. He hasn't
done it at all. In the NFL. He's done it a little bit in
college. But he's obviously only played briefly in the NFL for a
couple of years. But this might be the reason one of the reasons
why they kept him instead of Greg Dorch. Now, again, we
talked about Greg Dorch not being on the roster. You know,
and again, that's another Brad Holmes decision that I still
don't understand. But with Saylor's being thrust into that
role, could it be potentially that Tay Martin could be their
kick returning guy? And, you know, and again, the last thing
I want him to do is to put somebody again, like Jamo, or
Amon Ross ain't round back round back there to do the kick
returning. Here's another possibility that I wouldn't be
surprised. This guy right here. He's got nine lives. That's Tom
Kennedy. We could see him bumped up off the practice squad at any
moment. He could potentially be at least a punt return guy for
the Lions. Now, as Brad Holmes has mentioned, you know, he
wants a guy a little bit thicker that's got a little more
experience because they take more hits in the punt return
than the kick return. So all these questions still need to be
answered for the Lions. So again, I asked you, what would
you do if you're the Detroit Lions? Are you content with what
we've got? Or would you trade right away for new running back
to a new Knuckles if you will? Would you trade right away? Are
you content? Let's see what happens. Or you just don't trust
Brad at all. Would love to see your reaction on that as well.
All right. Well, that's going to do it. We've got a lot of
questions that need to be answered. Hopefully we can get
more of those in the coming days. Well, that's going to do
it for this edition of Lions Digest. And again, we remind
everybody, for those of you watching us for the first time,
welcome to Lions Digest. We invite you all to hit the
subscribe button, be a part of the conversation. And again,
we're proving that we are one of the most passionate fan bases
in all of professional sports, not just the NFL. Until next
time, Captain Lou saying keep your heads up, keep your sticks
down, keep your feet moving. And as always, keep your minds
open. So long.
