Newport Beach races to protect shoreline ahead of Tropical Storm Marie

Newport Beach is urgently constructing massive sand berms to protect the Balboa Peninsula from dangerous surf, rip currents, and coastal flooding expected over Labor Day weekend. These precautions are being taken as Tropical Storm Marie moves across the Pacific and is forecasted to strengthen into a hurricane.
