Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video documents a visit to the Stafford Spring Bird Show, showcasing a vast array of bird species and essential supplies. The creator explores various exhibits, purchases high-quality feed and nesting materials for the upcoming breeding season, and acquires a high-quality native greenfinch hen to enhance their breeding program.
Morning everybody, welcome back to OCA Wet Today. We're at Stafford Spring Bird Show,
thousands and thousands of birds up for sale today, so we'll be taking a look around the whole hall,
see all sorts of different things here today, budgies, parakeets, canaries, British finches,
exotic finches, pigeons and very exotic other things, softbills, also like cages and all your
dry goods, so plenty to look forward to in today's video.
So I've just got here to Stafford and there's a stand which is just
like the continental style stands just behind me there, they're selling birds that are just
all sorts of different varieties, I don't know half of them, but some really good quality sort
of mosaic canaries, new colours particularly and some exotic finches, absolutely stunning birds.
I must admit though as well, the guldeons are huge, they're twice as big as all the
ones I've seen, so fantastic quality once again.
Now look, I'm on direct bird products advertisements.
So literally just walking around and I've seen some golden orioles, now I've never seen this
bird in the wild or in captivity, I've only ever seen photos of them, I can't believe my eyes,
so stunning birds and credit to the breeder.
I like the Norwich.
So we've just got back from Stafford and it's a great opportunity to pick up new birds but also
plenty of supplies for the upcoming breeding season, so first off we went over to see Shane
at direct bird products, picked up a load of things off Shane, so first off we've picked up
50 kilos of their specialist red pole mix, if you keep red poles or any small finches for that
matter you should be feeding them on this, this is top notch, excellent quality seed,
I can't recommend it enough.
We've picked up a load of nest liners, loads of grass liners like this,
perfect for our lesser red poles, our twights, our gold finches perhaps, our green finches,
the haw finches and all sorts of different native birds in particular for those.
We picked up some coco fiber from Shane also, got three big bundles of that,
perfect for our native birds and our canaries and particularly the Siberian bull finches that
will make their nests completely out of this.
I picked up some terracotta nest pans which I haven't tried before,
these are going to be perfect for our birds in the rewilding project
because these birds might nest on the floor, so these are great for that,
they won't topple over if we have them on the floor.
Then we went to see Sam at Sam One Bird Products,
we picked up a load of one kilo mixers from Sam, massive thank you to them by the way,
so we've got some egg food, we've got some straight sunflower seeds
and we've got a variety of British finch mixers, all of great quality once again.
And then finally I like to try and support the other traders who are there as well,
so I picked up some different style nest liners, I picked up some nest felts,
some nesting material and finally five litres of clean and clear check mite.
This is a superb chemical, a superb disinfectant to clean your cages with,
it kills loads of mite and any other pathogens lingering in there
to make sure my birds are happy and healthy and we've got a clean environment in my bird room.
Also since last week's episode looking at the North Dutch frill canary,
I managed to pick up some North Dutch frill canary show cages which is fantastic,
so coming next year hopefully starting at the National Exhibition,
OC Avery will now also be showing North Dutch frill canary,
so that's something for us to look forward to.
And then finally it wouldn't be a trip to a big bird show with OC Avery
without some new additions of course.
Now I did show an element of self-control this year,
we didn't come back with 40 pairs of canaries like we did two years ago,
we came back with one bird but this bird makes up for it in quality,
this is a native greenfinch hen, I've had it from one of the best breeders in the UK,
so massive thank you to him, he knows who he is for sorting me out with this
and this is going to be a perfect addition to our breeding plans with our greenies for this year
and I'm hoping she might breed us some show winners.
So what a fantastic show that was this year at Stafford to kick off the spring,
I highly recommend if you're a bird keeper interested in birds
that you come along to this show because it's just amazing,
there's so many different varieties, finches, parakeets, softbills, the lot,
it was just amazing.
The favourite on the day for me was the golden orioles,
I've never seen them before in the flesh and they were just something else
and a massive thank you again to the organisers who made the show so accommodating
and one of the best ones yet.
Anyway everyone, if you've enjoyed it today and you'd like to see more from Oceavery,
