Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis race highlight features a volatile sequence of events, beginning with Joseph Newgarden's early dominance and subsequent crash. The event is characterized by aggressive pit strategies, a significant multi-car accident involving Romain Grosjean, and a dramatic shift in leadership as Will Power faces a late-race penalty.
...of 18, there goes the green, there goes Malone,
Newgarden up and on the inside, and Richard Schumacher
having a look at all of this, ultimate lap,
the best ever, great position,
of course, on and on to the teammate Louis Foster with a great start,
and right on his rear wing, tucking up, and look...
...opportunity lap before...
...phase, where they think...
...his foot in it, oh...
...takes over the lead of the race,
and that's all he needed to do was get to the inside...
...he is up...
...issues here with my side, but this is a low side spin,
half spin for Romain Grosjean, what a beautiful recovery,
to kind of lock up at 90 degrees, and then release back,
you see Grosjean, three car, two cars...
...about to get very busy...
...almost everyone is gonna come in,
Collette stays out, everyone else in Georgia...
...Pitlane about to get very busy, as you guys said,
Joseph Newgarden coming to his crew,
he's been battling understeer all weekend long,
...adjustments to fix that, he still wants the wingtip,
so it's new tires, fuel, and a small wingtip...
...perfectly stopped on his marks,
it's Newgarden inside front...
...and here's a replay of it,
Siegel doesn't really have anywhere to go into his box,
Newgarden powers through...
...here's the stop for O. Ward,
and O. Ward has lost ground, as we see them out on track now,
it is...
...Alex Pelot...
...and there's a big problem for O. Ward...
...Alex Pelot lost 11 places,
Kiffin Simpson lost 8 places,
Kirkwood up 4, McLaughlin up 3,
Pelot still leads...
...they're looking to make up a position,
it's a good one...
...I wanted to see that aggression there from Louis Parcher,
now he's got to be the inside...
...April...
...it's a little by Greyhull...
...gets it done...
...they are pitted near each other, so let's...
...this is Joseph Newgarden,
we know he's there, you see the McLaren behind him,
where's Renis VK, there he goes right there,
so he stays ahead...
...of Siegel...
...it's a second while we were in commercial break,
...you see 6.2 second gap...
...it's going to be a full course yellow,
Newgarden's win is done...
...lose it all...
...and one of the most experienced,
one of the best drivers on an oval,
Joseph Newgarden...
...falls...
...left one...
...Newgarden spins...
...Newgarden is done...
...we're going to get some stops,
and these stints are going nowhere near as long as anyone expected...
...Pelot comes in,
Malukas heads in,
Power heads in,
McLoughlin opts to stay out guys...
...Jack, bring him in...
...well we're going to see some alternate strategies in play now,
we've got the 27 and the 10,
I'm standing right in front of the pit box,
but Alex Pelot had to come around the 27,
so he's a little bit slow as he came in...
...a new set of tyres,
gone on to any road adjustments,
and it's a race on pit lane...
...and Power gets out ahead of Pelot...
...brilliant work from the Andretti pit crew,
let's roll it back to the start of the season,
the questions that we all had were over that Andretti pit crew,
they have been drilled,
they have practised,
they have perfected,
and look at...
...the issue there too much,
you try and force it a little too much,
you make a mistake like that,
so I feel sorry for our guys,
they've done a great job all weekend,
we got fast cars as you can see,
I wanted to do a little better job for Snap on there,
but I'll try a little harder,
but I'll try not to make the same mistake again in race 2.
Yeah, you have another race to do,
you have fast cars,
how do you reset?
Yeah, just that,
just reset and go back out,
I don't think the car is too bad,
I almost got it to just get the wing,
so it should be alright.
Thanks.
Kevin, why did McLaughlin stay out?
So if there was to be a late caution,
he may have more tyre options to come in,
10 or 11 sets is what everybody started the weekend with,
but keep in mind,
we've got another race to run today,
those that already stopped,
are hoping they get one more yellow,
otherwise it's going to be tough to make it on tyres, Georgia.
Scott Dixon stayed out,
it was the call from Mike Holt
to do whatever the opposite of Alex Below was.
Quickly clean racetrack after the sweepers,
this should be an explosive restart.
Into the restart zone,
McLaughlin,
then it's Siegel who's a lap down,
Dixon is third,
power behind him,
McLaughlin goes now,
immediately,
and we've got a crash in the back,
a little close yellow.
Dennis Howard, I believe,
Grosjean,
that's Grosjean.
This time,
some messy cars dip down low into the McLarens,
I think that's Lungar or Ward,
and then he just spins on his own,
getting to power,
oh, so narrowly took Marcus Armstrong with him.
The on-board,
Stingray Robb,
the Kong on-board,
front and centre,
front row seat for that one.
That's exactly,
just lost him,
just with a,
much more penalising impact with the wall.
And the day had started off so well for Grosjean,
ten positions gained in those opening laps.
Well, that effort comes to naught.
But I was surprised how long he was able to hold this guy back.
And this is probably too early to be able to make it home,
to make the Firestones last,
unless there's a caution.
We have seen,
a either fantastic start,
or a slow one.
I've got to say, G,
that looked like a nice stop from the ten.
You're right, and Will Power's hoping they have one,
just as nice.
He was leading this race,
Will said he's led in the last six,
he's led in eleven this season,
so fresh-stirred pirate.
Marina's VK,
out comes Lungar,
where are his rivals?
They will monster past him.
The race may be about to change,
we are hearing Will Power has got a penalty,
for speeding up.
