This Smart Lock Charges Itself in Low Light?! | DESLOC V150 Plus Review

Mark here, and today I'm excited to bring to you the Deslock Perovsky Solar Powered Smart Lock. Now the Perovsky solar panel is a solar panel that can charge in low light. It is six times more powerful than a traditional solar panel. So I'm excited to get into this. So this is a sponsored video by Deslock, and they sent me this V150 Plus to test out, and I am quite excited about this. I like technology, and when we first built our home, I picked up the smartest lock I could find, because I'm a little technical, and it was a fingerprint scanner. The kind that you drag over, not that you place on, in earlier technology. So I hooked it up, and my wife Tara tried and tried, and she couldn't get the thing to work. So I ended up returning it, and just picking up a standard keypad, which has been on our front door for the past 18 years. So I'm excited to try this out. This has four different ways to operate. So it has 3D facial recognition scanning, it has a thumbprint or a fingerprint scanner, it has a traditional key entry, and you can hook it up to your app and unlock it virtually anywhere. A friend comes over, you're not at home yet, he calls you, says I've made it, you're early, you open up your app, unlock the door, and they've got entry. So there are a few different other things. I believe you can set up guest accounts, you can use it in Airbnbs or rental properties for temporary access. So anyway, let's open this up. First of all, we have, of course, we're going to have a user's manual in here, probably some templates, maybe a deckle, not sure, we'll get into that. And here we have, so we've got the deadbolt and keys, we have the lithium ion battery, and we have accessories. So we'll figure out what those are. And opening up and getting the actual body out, this feels nice and sturdy anyway. All right, so what do we have here? We have the, this is the interior. So the battery is going to go right into this section here. So the battery will slide right into there. This will be inside your home, so you don't have to worry about cold temperatures. Here in Manitoba, we get down to minus 40 degrees in the wintertime, and batteries just don't do well in cold temperatures, especially cameras. So security cameras, they just haven't had or come up with a battery yet that will handle cold temperatures. Okay, so here it is. So I spent a little bit of time trying to figure out how to say Perovski, because it's a newer technology. It's so new. And so I might mix up that a little bit. So it's a Perovski, I believe it's a 4.8 inch solar panel, which is right here on the front. Down here, you have your fingerprint. And up at the top here, you have a scanner. There's three, I can see three little dark spots in there. So one of them is going to be the IR, because it does work at night as well. So it'll scan your face. It will charge in extremely low light. I do have a couple solar powered cameras that have the same technology, and they work very well. So what I'm going to do with this is I'm going to hook this up and test it out. I'll spend a couple weeks with this before I come back, and just get acquainted with it so that I'm able to give you all the information on this smart lock. So I'm pretty excited to set this up. I've had it for a first look at this. So taking a look at these boxes, let's just have a quick look in here. And we have our accessories. No, this is our lock. Yeah, this is our... So there's your keys. So there's traditional keys here. You've got, of course, some screws, and you've got your deadbolt and looks like a striker plate there. In here, you've got the lithium-ion battery. All right, so there it is there, nicely in anti-static. I imagine that's what that is. Okay, and so that's it. You do actually have a USB-C charging port right on here, so you can give this kind of initial charge. I probably will do that before I install it, just to make sure it has a good charge on it, because it has been sitting in the box a little bit, and usually they're not shipped with full charge. They've only got partial charges on them. So the accessories. Okay, so basically you're mounting hardware, and there is a door sensor as well. So that's one other thing that it does have. It appears to basically be a magnet. Pretty strong magnet. And what you'll do is, when this is installed in your home, you'll have, of course, the door jam right next to it. And this gets mounted in around somewhere around this area here. It knows when your door is closed, and it will automatically lock, or it'll lock after a certain amount of time. There's a bunch of different things in there. I haven't looked at it. I've just kind of learned about it, so I'll have a lot more information when I get back. Anyway, I'm going to hook this thing up, set it all up, learn about it, and then give you my full review. I am back. It's been roughly about a month since I installed the unit. I've been able to play around with it and figure out all its little secrets. Where I installed it was downstairs at our basement back door. Leads into the garden, and there is a bunch of Virginia creeper that has basically grown over and around that kind of back foyer or back entrance into the basement. So I thought this was a great opportunity to really test out how the battery worked on it, and is it going to charge in low light, as they say. So what I did is I didn't charge the battery up to full, because I wanted to get an idea is it going to go down, is it going to go up. So I wanted a little bit of leeway on that. I charged it up to 65% power and set it all up and got going on my testing. Now, setting it up was very easy. So I got the whole family involved in that to log everybody in as a user. So our back door. Now the basement is built with what's called ICF, so insulated concrete forms, and the door is, or the wall, is fairly thick. So the door jam that goes around in that opening, there's not a lot of room in there. Now with the auto lock magnet, I did set that in there and tested it out because I was curious as to whether there was enough room in there, and there wasn't. So this is a situation that probably happens maybe 0.01% of instances or even less because I've got a basement and because the house is built with ICF, and there's just a number of factors involved there. So what I did is I have a neodymium magnet, a nice strong neodymium magnet, and I placed that and magnetized it to a metal strip that was right along that edge. That magnet had lower clearance and the door was able to open and close without an issue, and the auto lock feature worked. So that was just a little hack I had, and that was probably the only issue that I had with the unit as a whole, and really it was because of the setup that I had. So locking and unlocking. So it worked well. Walk up to it, it recognizes you, the little desk lock turns green and unlocks the door, and you walk in. So even the fingerprint analyzer had no issues. My wife had no issues. We logged her in, got her all set up. She walked up, placed her finger on it, and no problem. The door unlocked. So the next thing I want to talk about is the battery. So the battery itself did actually gain charge. I think it's at 68%. Now if you should live way up north, there is a time frame during the winter months that you do not see the sun for weeks and weeks on end. It's just below the horizon and it's darkness. Now let's say the battery does die in that time frame and you come home and you can't get in. So it comes with the keys, which worked well. You hide the keys in your shed or under a snowbank or wherever. Give it to your neighbor and you can get in that way. Now let's say you just left it in the box and you were like, I'm never going to need that. Then all you need is your phone and a USB cable. USB-C to USB-C. You pop that little fingerprint scanner off to reveal, of course, the key that goes in the keyhole. And then you will also reveal a USB-C port. You plug your USB cable into that, you plug the other end into your phone, and that will charge up the system and allow you to gain access back into your home. So it seems like they thought of pretty much everything. So now we are going to get into the app. We'll place that just over here beside me. And you can see from this, we are at 68% of the battery level. So we've gained 8% since I installed it. So there are some really neat features in here that I played with. I will go in here, vacation mode. Let's say you go on vacation and you don't want, you can set up user levels. So you don't want lower levels to have access to your house. Only those most trusted people in your family have access when you're away on vacation. And when you do turn this on, it sets all activities, it says here, to alarm mode. It logs and alarms events so that when you're away, you kind of know what's going on, who's entering your home. Rest mode. So rest mode, I'm not really sure where you'd use this. It basically switches the events to a lower level, a lower audio level. So when you unlock the door, it says door unlocked, door locked, and you can adjust that level accordingly. Something that I thought that was very neat and quite useful. There's a lot of times where, well, people work during the day, kids go to school and the kids get home before the parents do. So this is a great opportunity to use this device. You log the child in. Now let's say the parent gets home at six o'clock. The child gets home between five and 530. You can go into this special care users and you can say, if my child, my child A, doesn't arrive back and unlock the door by 530 or 515, I want you to send me a notification because my child hasn't returned home yet. So that is a very interesting feature on it. And I think a lot of people would find that quite useful, knowing when their children are home, knowing that they're safe. So that's quite good. Our children are older now and we don't really need that. So it's not something that we would use, but I know in the past, this is something that we definitely would have used. Getting into the auto lock. So it is currently set to on. I've got the magnet in place, of course, my neodymium magnet that I installed and works like a charm. Close the door, it locks. You open it, you leave it open, moving stuff in and out, you close it, locks right away. So it's a very nice feature to have. Anti-hijacking access. This one was a little bit confusing. I guess if somebody is trying to log into the system, then it kicks them out and sends you a notification. I wasn't able to get a whole bunch of information on this. Face recognition. So this is where you get into and you set up all of your facial recognition. It's set to on, you can turn it on or off and then you can log your members. Then you get failed attempt protection. So here after multiple consecutive, it's set to five currently. If you're really struggling, I don't know, maybe you're drunk or something and you're putting the back of your finger on it. I don't know. It may just go into a lockdown for three minutes. You can change that. It's currently set to five as a default. Door jar alert. If the door is open for any extra length of time. So you can set this on here. 10 seconds to 30 seconds is your alarm. So general, you get into general here and you've got all of your information here on firmware, your Mac addresses, device names, models. You can change it if you go in here. If I should happen to buy a front door lock, then I would change this maybe to front door or back door. But since I only have one, I've just got that set up accordingly. Then you have your wifi. You can go in here and you can change your wifi if you want to do it that way. Volume. So this is the volume at the, I didn't see this broadcast language. See, I haven't read everything. French, Espanol and English. So we've got the volume broadcast set to middle and that's basically how loud it is at the door when it tells you door is locked or door is unlocked. Proximity induction. So what this is, is this is the detection sensitivity. So it will, it's currently at 15 seconds, which is kind of a more battery saving. You can change this out to sleep intervals. So you can set it to five seconds and it'll go to sleep for five seconds. Come on, look for somebody, go to sleep for five seconds, come back on, look for somebody, which 15 seconds is probably fine. So you can change that here. If you have any issues with that, if you're in between the 15 seconds, when it wakes up, you can always reach out and use your finger to unlock it as well. If you're finding that it's, you have to stand there for, for eight seconds, maybe switch it down to the five second, see how that works with your battery and you can move on from there. Speaking of battery. So here we go into the battery. This gives quite a bit of information here. It is stating that it is currently charging. It's at 69% with 597 lux. You can go in here and it will give you some graphs. Love graphs. They tell you quite a bit of information here and you can see how the performance has gone over the past week. Maybe you have a cloudy day and it was Monday. Let's say it was cloudy, which I believe it was, cloudy and rainy. It had a lower lux level and that's reflective of the bar graph saying that it actually only charged four milliamp hours. So not much, lots of information there. Then you get into device diagnosis. So this is, you just submit to them. If you're having an issue, you can submit it there. Notifications. Where do you want your notifications? When do you want them sent to you? Do you want it sent when it's locked or I've got it set to just alarm. So if something happens, I didn't close the door fully and it tries to lock and it doesn't lock, it will send me a notification saying my door didn't lock. So that is it for this video.
