We're up here in the foothills, just cleaning up nails and some of the other trash that people
leave behind. Mostly nails is what I pick up, but I also pick up a lot of just whatever scrap metal,
anything magnetic really. I'm mostly picking up scrap metal in terms of nails and screws.
I've picked up over 600 pounds. I've got a magnet with 55 pounds of pull force,
and I just go around and I brush it along the ground until it picks up whatever is there and
dump it. There's a lot of people who come up here with pallets. They get them for free on
Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, and then they burn them up here and then they don't pick
up after themselves with the nails. I come up here about once a week and I, you know,
clean up the area. I haven't had any flat tires yet, but I'm honestly surprised that I haven't
because there's so many puncturable items up here. I found a lot of bullets and live rounds
while I've been up here. Most of it's .22, but some of them are bigger. I figure if someone's
going to go up here shooting, they're going to pick up whatever they haven't shot, one would
think. So the access here, it's a privilege, not a right, and I think we need to take care of the
area so that way it stays open for everybody and everyone can enjoy the recreational options up
here.
