The avalanche just made a massive move and I am at a lost for words.
The Joe has cooked yet again and has signed Kale McCarr to the largest NHL contract in
all of hockey history, carrying an AAV of more than $20 million a year.
We got the news yesterday that there was something happening with the Kale McCarr contract extension
and that it was going to be announced any second now and we waited more than 24 hours.
And it has finally come.
I cannot believe it.
Welcome into the channel everybody.
Let me know how we're all feeling about this contract in the comments down below.
Just an absolute bomb dropped by the entire hockey world after a pretty slow August to
be quite honest with you.
But we finally have some incredible news to talk about and some great information to share
with you all.
Well, Kale McCarr has officially been extended for the next eight years.
He took the eight year contract after all.
After many people were speculating, myself included, that it would be a four to five
year deal.
Nope.
Kale McCarr is going to stay until he's 36 years old.
He extended and we honestly got the news that he extended a couple nights ago that the deal
was done.
I don't know why it took this long for them to finally announce it.
But there he is.
The richest man in all of hockey right here with that little rosy smile.
So happy to have McCarr here until further notice.
And he actually did have a message as well to share with the fans.
I'm an Avalanche faithful.
Couldn't be more excited to continue my journey here with the Avalanche and this amazing Denver
and with all you guys, the fans.
So here's to hopefully an amazing nine years.
And that was all that he had to say.
Short and sweet.
We did get this tweet earlier from Elliott Freedman.
Just dropped a grenade down the stairs.
I saw Conor McGay.
He tweeted the exact same meme.
I thought that was perfect.
He said, yeah, I've got to go offline for a bit.
By the way, the contract for Kale McCarr is done.
Anyway, goodbye.
And then he just left, leaving everyone to wonder, OK, what does this contract look like?
A lot of people were speculating for the longest time.
I mean, just look right here at Kale McCarr's rap sheet, how much of an accomplished player
he already is.
Fastest defenseman to 200 points, has the trophy case, is already full at his age, and
he is going to be with the Colorado Avalanche for the next nine years.
And this trophy case will grow.
So happy to have him here to do that as well, but just kind of going through what was happening.
And Evan Wall tweeted that, yeah, it's basically done.
We should know pretty soon.
And eventually we got there.
But what exactly is the price, you might be asking?
Well, take a look at this tweet right here.
It is $20.4 million per year for the next eight years.
That is one heck of a paycheck.
And in case you guys are wondering just how much this is worth, according to the official
Puckpedia site, this is $163.2 million in total.
I cannot fathom that amount of money.
I could never imagine holding that amount of money at any one point in time.
So that is utterly insane.
I'm speechless to imagine what this looks like for a guy like this.
But this contract will take him to the 34-35 season.
So Kale McCarr is going to be an av for life.
His jersey is going to hang in the rafters of Ball Arena next to Nathan McKinnon's.
And honestly, glad to have a player of this legacy with Colorado, hanging with Peter Forsberg,
with Joe Sakic as well.
So many great legends in this Colorado Avalanche's history.
And I'm glad that Kale McCarr has decided he wants to be here for the next eight years.
Just magnificent from every angle that you can possibly look at this with.
Now, you guys might be wondering, what does this do for the rest of the Avs Cup window
here?
How much money does this actually leave them going forward?
And to be quite honest with you, it's really not that bad.
Raj from Altitude Sports Radio tweeted this out yesterday, I made sure to save this, and
said that signing Kale McCarr to a contract of about $18 million, it's actually $20 million,
so it's a little bit higher than that, would leave Colorado with around $12.5 million going
into the next season and the following spots to fill.
And then this is assuming that Arturi Lekanen is walking.
And I know we all love Arturi Lekanen here, but I think with this contract being signed,
this pretty much assumes that Arturi Lekanen is going to walk.
I don't think the Avs will be able to afford or give Lekanen the $8 million that he could
potentially be worth.
I think that's what a lot of people are saying.
I don't think Arturi Lekanen is worth that based off of his injury history, his availability
during the playoffs, how his game has already started to go down a little bit just because
of all the injuries.
I'm not trying to turn this into an Arturi Lekanen should not be signed video, but do
just want to spell out, this probably means the end for Arturi Lekanen in an Avs sweater
after this season.
But realistically, going into the next season, they have to sign a top six wing, a backup
goalie, assuming Scott Wedgwood doesn't resign, and assuming that Ilya Nabokov doesn't just
become the backup goalie, a 13th forward, and a 6th and 7th D. That's pretty workable
if you ask me.
And yeah, I completely agree with that take.
I think that the Avs still have plenty of money to fill all of these positions.
I really don't think that the money-wise will be too hard.
You've got the youth movement already happening from the Colorado Avalanche, and going forward,
knowing that Kahle McCarr has fit long-term, I think there's quite a good conversation
of saying that this Avalanche roster will be built to give Kahle McCarr the most amount
of opportunities to succeed because Nathan McKinnon's contract will be up way sooner
than Kahle McCarr's does.
So I think this Avs team, like I explained in the video I just released, that I think
that this Avs team will be going towards a youth movement more often just because they
want to get the max out of a generational player like Kahle McCarr as much as they possibly
can.
You're already seeing the Avs do it.
I don't just want to reiterate what I said in the last video, but with this absolutely
insane contract being signed, the Avs very clearly stated their future of Kahle McCarr
means the world to us, and we see him as the amazing player that he is.
I think going forward, you also have to look at Nathan McKinnon's $12.6 million contract.
I mean, guys, does that contract not look utterly spectacular right now?
Because when that was signed, it was the most expensive contract in the league.
It was just $100,000 more than Conor McDavid.
And we all knew.
We're like, oh, you know what?
That contract's going to age pretty well.
Conor McDavid's contract is up soon.
Austin Matthews is going to sign the higher contract.
And they all did.
But then the cap absolutely exploded, and players started signing for outrageous amounts
of money.
I mean, you look at Leo Carlson's deal, what Conor Gauthier is going to have to sign for,
the Karol Kaprizov deal, Jack Eichel's being even more.
You see so many players signing just outrageously good contracts.
And I love that for hockey players that they're getting paid now because, man, what a grueling
sport hockey is.
I'm glad these players are making more money.
But at the same time, I look at Nathan McKinnon getting paid way less than any of these guys.
And I say that was a tidy piece of business.
Just in hindsight, that's one of the best contracts in the league already.
And this Kael McCarr contract is worth every single dollar.
I don't think Kael McCarr is worth any dollar less.
And to honestly be truthful, Kael McCarr did kind of give his current team a bit of a paycheck.
If you actually look, the max that a player can make right now is 12.8.
So in a way, he saved the abs $400,000 per year.
What a nice guy.
So honestly, if they just want to donate to me and I'll take that 400,000 pennies, just
pennies on top of the salary, I'll graciously take that money.
I don't know.
Just, you know, just because no one else wants to make that sacrifice.
I guess I'll do it, guys.
But what do you guys think in the comments down below about all of this, about Kael McCarr
being an av for the rest of his career?
Love to see him stay here.
He's not going to Calgary unless the avs trade him, which they are not going to.
As long as Joe Sakic is in any type of executive position with this Colorado Avalanche team,
McCarr is here to stay.
And we're watching legends be locked up in real time.
That is going to do it for this video.
Thank you all so much for watching.
