Charles Raymond Solt was born in 1925. He was an artist and a painter,
but he's probably best known for his work as a head designer at Lenox China for two decades.
The China service he designed for the Reagan White House
is now a permanent part of the Museum of American History at the Smithsonian.
He bought this property in 1976 and lived and worked here for the rest of his life.
And this is the house he built. It's been completely restored,
with great care given to preserving its original architecture
and the notion of using nature as a guiding design principle.
There's a really thoughtful palette that's been added of modern fixtures and
exquisite materials, some of which were commissioned specifically for this house.
One of the most remarkable features is the light and the way it moves
from one end of the house to the other.
Solt's original studio has been transformed into the primary suite,
which is wrapped in glass as it was when Solt worked here.
There is a freestanding tub and really beautiful walk-in shower,
with sliding doors that open out to another deck outside.
There's a guest bedroom off the main entry,
with a few of Solt's prints and paintings.
And then there's another guest bedroom at the other end of the house with its own bath,
and that's just outside the media family room.
When you're in the house, I think there's a really clear connection between Solt's work as a designer
and the feel of the architecture, the attention to the line, the texture, the dimension.
I think you can feel Solt's attention to detail in every room.
