AI GeneratedThis tutorial provides a step-by-step guide on how to knit a reversible herringbone rib seamlessly in the round. The instructor demonstrates that while many believe this texture is impossible to achieve in a circular fashion, it is entirely doable with specific setup rounds and a two-round repeat pattern using the western continental method.

how to work this beautiful haribone rib seamlessly. I already have a tutorial on
how to work the stitch flat which you can find linked in the
description below and in the card above. In fact all the videos in this technique
can be found on my channel and in the description down below.
Many knitters claim it is impossible to knit this texture in the round
but I will show you that it is actually very
doable. Grab your needles and yarn and let's get
started. For this pattern we need an even number of stitches because the pattern
We are working in the round and therefore we need an even stitch count.
I cast on an odd number 75 stitches to account for join in the round.
One stitch will be decreased during the join
leaving 74. So I take out one needle and join the work in the round.
How do I do this? I slip the first stitch from the left needle to the right
pass the last cast on stitch over it, pull it tight and return the stitches
back to the left needle. I'll place a marker at the beginning of
the round and continue. This is setup row 1.
Knit 1, Purl 1. Knit 1, Purl 1.
Both knit and purl stitches are worked using the standard
continental method also known as the western continental method.
This method ensures that the every stitch on the right needle sits with its
right leading leg facing forward. That is crucial for this pattern and that
is how I will be demonstrating it. If you knitting style results
in the same stitch orientation stick to it. If your method
changes the amount of the stitches you will need to adjust my instruction on
your own. Work knit 1, purl 1 to the end of the
round. I have finished the first setup round. As you can see it
ends with a purl stitch. That is correct. If you have to knit
in a round this means you made a mistake somewhere.
Now I move on to setup round 2. Here I take the stitch from the round
below and place it onto the left needle. The
first round is the trickiest. Knit it and slip the current stitch
unworked knitwise. The next stitch I simply purl.
I work like this to the end of the round. Place the stitch from the round below
onto the left needle, knit it, slip the current stitch
unworked. Next purl 1. Again place the stitch from the round below
onto the left needle, knit it, slip the current stitch
unworked. Purl 1. And once more. Loop from row below onto the left needle,
knit it, slip current stitch unworked, purl 1.
Repeat to the end of round. I have finished the second setup round
and next come the pattern repeats. There are two repeat rounds in total
which are worked identically. Round 1 of repeat. Work the double loop
from the previous round together as a knit stitch.
Knit two together. Next is purl
column. Bring the working yarn to the front of the work,
slip the current purl stitch knitwise unworked to the right needle,
tilt the fabric forward, catch the loop from one round below with the right
needle and place it onto the left needle. Do not
go deeper than one round. Purl that lifted stitch using standard
western continental purl. Let's do that again. We have a double
loop. Insert the needle from left to right and
knit two together. As you see the front leg
crosses over, creating a twisted stitch. That is the exact effect we need.
Next is a purl. Yarn in front, slip the stitch knitwise,
lift the loop from one round below onto the left needle
and purl it. Again, knit two together. Yarn in front, slip one knitwise.
Slipping knitwise is essential, otherwise you
won't get the twisted stitch in the next round.
Catch the stitch from the round below, place it on the left needle
and purl it. Knit two together, slip one knitwise with yarn in front,
lift loop, place it on the left needle and purl it. Repeat to the end of round.
Round one is done. Moving to round two of repeat.
Slip marker. Pick up the twisted stitch from the round below
with the right needle. Place it onto the left needle
and knit it. Slip the current stitch knitwise without working it.
Next is double loop. Purl two together. Again, lift that small twisted stitch
from the previous round onto the left needle,
knit it, slip the current stitch knitwise and purl two together. Look,
the haribone V shape is already forming and clearly visible. Repeat to the end.
Lift loop from below onto left needle, knit it, slip one knitwise,
purl two together. Again, lift that small twisted stitch from the previous round
onto the left needle, knit it, slip the current stitch knitwise, purl two
together. That completes round two.
Now repeat round one and two to your desired height.
Never repeat the setup rounds. They are worked only once at the beginning.
The more rounds you knit the easier it gets.
It is only difficult to catch the stitch from the round below
in the initial rounds. As the fabric grows
it becomes much simpler. Knit two together,
yarn in front, slip one knitwise, tilt the fabric, catch the twisted stitch
from the round below, it is easy to see now, place it on the
left needle and purl it. Knit two together,
yarn in front, slip one knitwise, lift loop onto left needle, purl one,
knit two together, yarn in front, slip one knitwise,
lift loop onto left needle, purl one, knit two together.
Repeat to the end of round. That was the odd round.
Slip marker. Now for the even round. Round two.
You can see the hairband texture clearly now.
Just like before, lift the loop from the round below
onto the left needle, knit it, slip the current knit stitch
Again, find the hairband loop from the round below,
put it on the left needle, knit it, slip current stitch unworked, purl two
together. Lift loop from row below, place on left
needle, knit it, slip stitch unworked and purl two
together. Lift the loop from row below onto left
needle, knit it, slip current stitch unworked, purl two together.
Lift the loop from row below onto left needle,
knit it, slip current stitch unworked, purl two together.
Work like this all the way to the end of the round.
A quick tip on needle choice. Always choose
larger needles than recommended on your yarn label.
I'm using YarnArt Jeans Crazy which recommends 3.5 millimeters
US 4 needles but I am knitting on 5.0 millimeters US 8 needles.
If I used 3.5 millimeters, the fabric would turn out far too tight
and dense. 3.5 millimeter does not work for this stitch at all.
So, here I have knitted several rounds of this hair ribbon rib
in the round and as you can see everything worked out perfectly.
And next I will probably continue knitting with the same hair ribbon
pattern only in stockinette stitch. But that will be in the next video. Be
sure to hit the like button, subscribe to the channel
if you haven't done so already and tell me what are you going to use this
hair ribbon for. Thank you so much for your attention.
Bye-bye!
