Gulfport defensive tackle Jordyn Fernandez recaps defensive performance after 35-0 win over Picayune

Talk about your defensive line and how they played today. Played like relentless pursuit of having like, I don't know, like the whole week we keyed on him running the ball. Like, it stopped him. So that's all they got is running the ball. If you stop the run, then you got to do it. They did great, honestly, like- Yeah, you got to do it. Now, throughout this entire game, you guys were able to sub out that entire D line just in the middle of possessions. I mean, talk about how big the depth is for you guys. Yeah, that's a big thing, depth. Like, because last year, everybody, we didn't have that much depth. I wasn't even able to play last year because I was in ninth grade. But this year, depth really helps a lot. Like, everybody stay fresh. Your coach has talked a lot about not needing to wake up all the teams this season. You come out here and right away, 35 students, I mean, it's something. Talk about how big that is for you guys and the mentality aspect of it, you know? Yeah, I feel like the first half was like still getting the jamboree jitters out. The second half, when coach came in and had that speech with us, it just flipped. Like, it's like nothing changed from last year. Like, it's back at it. Now, you guys out there, throughout the first half, great, phenomenal defense. I'm kind of watching that offense. You know, you shake a lot of rust off not having that jam for eight weeks. I mean, what is the mentality on the sideline working with that offense and kind of hoping and cheering them on to break it open? I gotta keep my QB up, like. Like, he getting his head easy, but like, I don't know, like, just keep them up. Don't let nobody get them down. If they get them down, we're here. That's what we're here for, keep them up. As different being, you know, the guy that the team that's chasing the teams with the targets on the back. Now, you guys have the target on the back. How are you approaching that? Everybody wanna knock us off. Can't let them. Like, you gotta approach every game like you're the being hunted, not the going to hunt. All right. Yes, sir.
