The Berlin S-Bahn is one of if not the best regional rail system in the world. Consisting of 16 lines the S-Bahn is the backbone of transit in the Berlin metropolitan area since it is the single best mode of transport for travelling long (or not so long) distances throughout the city and its metro area. The way a German S-Bahn works is with a high-frequency section in usually the downtown area with a bunch of lines that branch out to different suburbs once they leave the city. Berlin has 3 of these sections. One going north-south, another east-west, and the most unique one being the ringbahn. As its name suggests, the ringbahn is a circumferential route that encompacess the main area of the city, offering rail connections to a variety of places without actually needing to travel into Berlin. The S-Bahn is perfectly integrated with other modes of transport in Berlin running on the same fare system and similar wayfinding to the other modes. The reason this system is often praised for being one of if not the best regional rail system in the world is because of its efficiency and truly amazing conception.
