Is this the BEST Motorhome Park Up in Spain? Cabo de Gata, Almeria

Hey, hey, hey, we're back on the road and we're heading down to Cabo da Gata, aren't we Gary? We are. We've only just stopped saying Cabo da Gata as if we're in the Black Forest or something, you know what I mean? Getting a kiss one. Anyway, we've just had a really fabulous time in Los Gallardos down at the campsite there. So we're on a bit of a chili con carne in 8.i and we're looking forward to getting down and seeing if we can find a free park up that we've seen on right on the coast. Now we are a bit late actually in the day because we've been fannying around, filming, walking around, having a laugh, meeting a couple of subscribers. It's great fun, isn't it? It's now 22 minutes past three. Sat Nav's telling me that we're getting there for about a lovely drive but it is quite hilly. Are your ears feeling a bit hot? Yeah, it might be a bit hot. So I'll show you what it's like on the way but we'll catch you a bit further down the road. Wow, check out this view, it's beautiful. Loads of hills and look at this, it's starting to look a lot more sunnier than it was where we were, well, 20 minutes ago. If you haven't seen that video, it's the last one, you can see what the temperature looks like. But yeah, this is beautiful, really mountainous. We're on the A7. So Gary and I have just been having this conversation about always saying Gary this, Gary that and I know a few of our subscribers always mention it in the comments like Gary, Gary, Gary. I do say it a lot, don't I? You do. But he never says my name, never. Gary, what is my name? You'll have to come back to me on that. You never say Julia, do you? That's because when I'm talking, I'm only ever talking to you, I don't need to draw attention to the fact that I'm talking to you. You say it out of habit. I don't say it out of habit. I'm sure you do. It's not out of habit, it's your name. But also Gary, if you're calling me, you shout Babe or something. I do, that is true. You never shout Julia. If I'm in a supermarket, I would say it. You wouldn't say anything. I wouldn't shout Babe. You would stay lost for ages. I shout Gary in the supermarket and he looks really embarrassed. If I can't find him, I'm not embarrassed to shout Gary right across the aisles. You don't like that, do you? I pick something up and pretend I'm reading. Just got to watch our speed now because there's some roadworks along here. It's all going into one lane. Looks like they're doing the inside of there. Well, they built another lane. Oh yeah, they must do, look. They're putting down some. Oh yeah, you want one of them. Well, I can guarantee you're not getting that for Christmas, Gary. There we go. We've got deer along here for the next five kilometers. You wouldn't think there would be, would you? Because it looks so flat. And then you've got all of this plastic sheeting that is all over Almeria. So it's like loads of greenhouses. So this here is where they're building the high-speed rail network and I know how far is it? Did you say you reckon it's going? I think it joins Malaga with Barcelona. No way, I mean that is, that's going to be a really important rail link, isn't it? Yeah, completely. We've just noticed that someone has literally already graffitied on one of those pillars. I mean, crikey, who do people, they're so vain, aren't they? They want their name written all over everything. Arseholes, I'd get them to clean it all off if I could find it. So we're just entering the Cabo de Gato park area. It's actually a really large area and it's a World UNESCO heritage site. Looks gorgeous over there, Gary, doesn't it? Look at that. Loads of palm trees along here. That's so pretty, isn't it? What, the town? So the town is about 11 kilometers from here. See the mountain range ahead of us? Yeah. If you follow it all the way to the end, to the right-hand side there, where it goes into the sea, that's Almeria's southernmost point. Is it? Yeah. We're coming very close to Cabo de Gato now and there is a campsite here. So there's another air, as we're getting closer, an area to autocaravans there. That's got quite a bit of space in there, honey. And this is by this town, but it does look a little rough. A lot of graffiti. Yeah, I think you've got to slow down now, love. It's a little town. This is quite near the air. Look at that. I don't know, it looks a bit weird. There's a spa. Spas are usually good in Spain. Oh, menu del dia. 15 euro for that menu. That's not bad. So we're really rather hoping to get a little pitch up by the sea. We've seen it on search for sites. We don't know if we'll get in, but for us, that's like a fabulous thing to do. We only like to stay for a night in these places. People come and they stay for months. We like to tour it through in places and give other people the chance to stay as well. So somebody seems to have parked and we're coming into the area. There's a lot of graffiti I've noticed. There is a lot in Spain, to be honest, but you know, it seems to be universal, doesn't it? Oh, they're pretty, those like flamingo things. Yeah, this is the town now. So you want to go literally straight down the end of the road, Gary, by the look of it. That's what I'm noticing. S.O.S. Selena. S.O.S. written all over the place. What's going on here? Oh, look, that's cute, isn't it? A little boat, Cabo de Gata. Feliz Navidad. Yeah, that's happy Christmas. Feliz Navidad. Don't want to start that going through my head. That does start. OK, right. I'm just trying to work out where you're going on this. So you're coming around. I think you're going over that. Oh, there it is. Yeah, there's loads of other people there. That's it, isn't it? So once you get to this little roundabout here, you'll go right around it. That is a very, very nice mural. Look at that. I'll come and see that in a bit. A lot of blokes hanging around. That looks interesting over there. So this looks like the camper park that everybody talks about. I don't suppose there'll be any front line views, will there? There's a couple of bins here, which is really useful. Yeah, I suppose we're going here. So they all seem to be, they've put themselves into lines, haven't they? Yeah. Don't seem to be anything, but obviously there's not a front row. We're a bit late in the day, to be honest. Yeah, we can go and have a little look. We might as well have a bit of a look. Oh, look, there's some Brits. We take a walk and find a little end spot. So we nab that right in front of the coast. And this was the view. It's an absolutely brilliant location because there is a boardwalk right outside where the van is. Look at that sandy beach. It's absolutely stunning. All the bars and restaurants seem a little bit empty, to be honest, but there are some really nice deals to be had. It's really quiet, isn't it? We walk right to the end of the boardwalk, which wasn't that far, to be honest, and come upon something so incredible. Right, we've just spotted this spot here. It's a motorhome parked here. We did see this on search for sites. We didn't think we'd get in. Do you want to move? It's lovely. Gary's gone to get the van because whilst that place is really nice where we parked, there are a lot of vans. It does feel like you're really on top of other people. Got a gorgeous sea view there, but look at this. I mean, this is a place to stop, isn't it? You know, I mean, it's going to hopefully it'll be quite quiet. There's only one other van here and us. I'm just trying to work out which way is the best way for us to park. You're slightly sheltered as well by the sea because of the seawall there. Really, really, absolutely stunning, to be honest. So just at the end, there's a sign here and this is obviously for the beach. There's no motorhomes and no tents on the beach, so obviously people were coming onto the beach. I mean, how magnificent would that be? Not that you'd want to get stuck, but yeah, caravanning is not allowed between sunset and sunrise, so you are allowed to come down here, but not between those times. Camping is not allowed. There's a six kilometre walk all the way down here. Look, this is really fantastic. It's great walking. There's a little map along here. Obviously, cars do drive down that road. I've just seen a couple of cars head down there. Here he comes. He's found the back streets. It's a right nightmare. That's it, face that way. Telling him to face that way, so he's going to come in, he's going to do a little bit of reversing. Jiggery-pokery. Here he comes. Talk about a lovely spot, eh? I'm not sure we've got the pure stunning views of the other one, but we don't have a band so close to us. That's it, he's backing up. We've got to try and get a little bit level. I'll tell him to come back a bit. There's a bit of an uneven surface here, so I would just keep coming back, Gary. This is absolutely phenomenal. Let me just show you the view from this window. Gosh, that's incredible. It looks beautiful. I think it's going to be a sunset. How do you fancy getting down to that bar, love? Oh, I think it's a great idea. So we've come down to a bar and I thought I'm freezing, so I put my pink coat on, which is really thick, and now I'm boiling. So I've just sent Gary down to the van to get a gillet, which isn't as hot. So on the plus side, chin-chin. Got myself a nice red wine and Gary's on the red vino as well. Now I noticed they sell a tortilla in here and it's a goat's cheese tortilla. I've not tried it with goat's cheese, so I think we might try that. How's this for lovely front line table? It is gorgeous, isn't it? Wow. Okay, here's the little menu. They've got salads up here. Salmon salad's like £12.50, so it's pretty good. They've got like ham on Iberica and stuff like that for £18, but this is what I was talking about. There's a tortilla here, rullo de cabra, so that's a goat's cheese tortilla for £7.50. Yeah, might have to try a bit of that. They've got eight pieces of croquetas for €8. Got ham on Iberica, baclava, so that's cod, boletos. Oh, they've got quite a bit of choice actually. So I didn't recognise what this was for the croquetas, but it's actually a confit of leek with dates. I've never tried that. That's really different. That's mushrooms and cod and ham on Iberica. Ham on Iberica I've had a lot of times and obviously mushroom, but I've never had it with dates. I might have to get some. So of course, as he's walked all the way back to the van, I'm now a little cold and don't need it. So he's really chuffed that I've sent him there for it. Over the moon. But no, she's brought you out a nice glass of Ribera Del Suero. So chin chin everyone. How nice is this? This is lovely Julia. It's my name. Must be love. You said it all. I'm saying it as well. That's why I don't say it. And another mare that we've got going on slightly is, so it sounds like we've got loads of jillies, which we have, it seems. I borrowed one of Gary's favourite ones. I borrowed one of Gary's favourite ones when we were in that like last campsite and I've left it there. Not one of my favourite ones, the favourite one. So he's a little bit annoyed now because he's got to message them and say, can you hold on to it until we come back? Because we're away for a few days, aren't we? Yeah. Anyway, hopefully no one's going to steal his grey jillet, which is a nice jillet. It has to be said. So comfy. So he's getting his jillet. Thanks to those guys down at Miraflores. Got some really difficult words to say there. I don't know why. Oh, chin chin everyone. Having the best sunset. It'll get easier to say after a few days. Oh, check this out. This is the old croquetas. They look magnificent. Checking out the mushroom one. They're lovely little ones. I really like them. They're so small. That's an amazing taste sensation. So I have a friend called Ginny who loves croquetas. Ginny, this is worth a try. Wow. This is the tortilla. Only eight euros as well. I'll give you like, it's not massive. There's a knife, but it's not small either. Gorgeous sunset. I can't even tell you how beautiful that sunset is. Well, good morning. So what a great location to sleep last night, wasn't it? It was lovely. All you could hear was the waves. Yeah, that's it, isn't it? Couldn't hear anything else, but the waves. To be fair, they're quite noisy, aren't they? They are. At first I thought it sounded a bit like a road, but like a constant road noise, but it was lovely. But today we've got a bit of plans. We're heading off somewhere. We're going a bit movie star. Where are we going, You don't want to say that too slowly, do you? Now, what's it famous for? So it's famous for the filming location for a few dollars more. Now, if you're a Clint Eastwood fan, as we both were as kids, I think, I don't know, but I think everybody who was like around in the seventies as a kid watched all of the Clint Eastwood films. And we know some of our subscribers do. So, you know, we're going to take you there. And that is the scene where the last shootout was, wasn't it? That's the location for the final scene was actually in the village. And of course the village was called Agua Caliente, which is hot springs in the movie, but it's actually Los Albaricoc. Okay. So that's where we're going to head. And it's only about, it's about 25 minutes from this location. So it's perfect little drive out today before we head off later on this afternoon. That's where we were last night. Beautiful. A couple of other bands, but not much. So we're back at the lovely roundabout and we're going to head out of here. Look at that. That's nice, isn't it? It's really prettily done. That's really beautiful. That is, I think it's a little flamingo in there. Some flamingo flats around here. So I believe that's the salt flats around here. I think you get flamingos here, love. Look at this. There's a load of flamingos in here. We can't really see them that well, but you have to take my word for it. But yeah, there's a viewing point. Look, Gary, there's one of those, what do you call it? Telescopes. That's literally around the corner. You could walk to this. It's really interesting here, but look at that stunning view. And this gives you the history of the geology of the area. I can't believe that's literally just as you drive out. I mean, it's a beautiful view, but also Cabo da Gata itself has everything you need. There's a supermarket. We drove past the bakers, loads of restaurants, gorgeous views. Great stay. Really good. We'd come here again. Got to be careful as you're driving. There's a lot of scooter riders we noticed. In fact, there was one guy that nearly got taken out by a big truck yesterday, didn't he? Yeah, he did. There's a lot of rubbish around here I've noticed, so that's a real shame. I don't know if it's just blown around, but I mean, Cabo da Gata was really clean. And then we're just going past that little air that we saw yesterday. There's only a few motorhomes in there, but obviously it's really handy if you need to do your drops. So just up the road, there is a Repsol garage, but we've seen that there is a motorhome air sign. So we're just going to have a quick look around there. Okay, so they have got a little motorhome service area. It's five euros and you'll be able to do everything, drop and get water. I can see a water tap. You'll be able to get rid of your grey and your black. That's really handy, isn't it? Then you can just stay down at the beach. Got a little cafe as well, actually, in that one. It's quite useful, isn't it? You could park up here. No problems. Have a bite to eat. It's a pretty drive, but you see what I mean? There's loads of scooters around. You've just got to be really careful. Lots of agricultural setups as well. There's so much growing around this region. We're just getting into the region here. Hey, check this out, Gary! Oh, let's stop and have a picture. Oh, there's a bull in here. Oh no, it's somebody's house. Nosey mare that I am. Oh, there is one there though, Gary. Little restaurant. You can go up this way, I think. Yeah, that's right. Go up this way. So this is the little village and apparently it sort of brought in quite a bit of money at the time, which I'm sure it would have done. All the actors here and everything and the notoriety of it. Cracking bit of parking, Gary. We're right next to where the final duel was held, aren't we? It's a little sign as soon as you're up here, look, and it gives you all the details. So in English, there we go, the final duel of the era, Siergio Leone's film, part of his Dollar Trilogy, for a Fistful of Dollars. Now behind me in that circle is the location where the final scene from For a Few Dollars More was shot. Now For a Few Dollars More was the second in the trilogy of films, the first being A Fistful of Dollars and the last being The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Now in the final scene for this one, you had the three main actors. You had Manco, played by Clint Eastwood. He was a bounty hunter. You then had Mortimer, played by Lee Van Cleef. Now he was after revenge for his sister's murder. And then you had the baddie, the murderer, who was Indio. Now what happened in the final scene was Manco, Clint Eastwood, was sat there with his pocket watch that played a tune. And when that tune played out, Mortimer and Indio were supposed to draw and have a fight, which they did. And in the end, Mortimer, played by Lee Van Cleef, killed the baddie, as they do in all the cowboy films. And after that, what happened was the bounty that they all got, that they got for killing those people, was given to Clint Eastwood by Lee Van Cleef, because Lee Van Cleef, all he wanted was revenge for his sister. Look, this is the Avenida Sergio Leona. This is where it's at. So a little shop right next to it as well. It looks like it sells a few bits and pieces. Have you got any money on you, Gary? He's going to try and find Avenida Lee Van Cleef. A cute little shop in here. It's quite sweet. It's got all the little essentials. It's not badly priced either, like 180 or something for spaghetti sauce. But they've got a little baker's. I'm going to get a loaf of bread, I think. Yeah, this is lovely, isn't it? So I literally just bought one thing in the shop. I got some alcohol-free beers for Gary, because you like them, don't you? I do, yes. But they were five euros, which is actually, you know, it's not expensive for six of them, but it's like double the price that they normally would be, aren't they? So I think I might have had the English price or the tourist price. But I do like to put a few quid into these places. Well, it is a bandit town. So I was reading, you know, on the sign that was by their circle, it's saying all different types of films have been filmed in Almeria. And it sort of went into sort of westerns and stuff like that. And then it said even erotica, which did give me a bit of a surprise. I'll leave my hat for those ones. All right, let's get out of here before he gets any ideas. Right, that's it for this week.
