Alisa Zhou Says She Misses Her Mother

For more than 25 years, Wang Youmei has faced detention, forced labor, abuse, and the loss of her livelihood for practicing Falun Gong. Now, at age 61, the Wuhan resident is once again behind bars after being swept up in a mass arrest of practitioners in April.

Her daughter, Alisa Zhou, who resides in Maryland working as an accountant, is speaking out and calling for her mother’s release.

Wang’s case was transferred to the procuratorate in June, bringing her closer to prosecution for peacefully practicing and advocating for her faith.

“I am very worried about their safety,” Alisa says, knowing that Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted to death for their beliefs in China.
