I found this outdated 1970s dresser at a thrift store for $80. It was in great condition but the chunky hardware, heavy base and dark finish were seriously dating it.
In this furniture makeover, I’m showing you how I modernized an older Canadian made dresser with new legs, updated hardware and a fresh painted finish while sharing plenty of furniture refinishing tips along the way.
We’ll cover proper cleaning and prep, scuff sanding, filling old hardware holes, modifying the base, priming oak to prevent tannin bleed, spraying cabinet paint and getting old drawers to fit properly after painting.
At the end, I’ll show you the finished dresser and explain why I decided to list this particular flip for $695 on Facebook Marketplace.
