Russia's Defence Ministry said on August 24 that Russian forces had captured or liberated three settlements across the Sumy, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, while claiming continued advances and improved positions along several sections of the frontline. Moscow also reported more than 1,400 Ukrainian personnel losses across five operational sectors, alongside the destruction of military equipment including a German-made Leopard tank and multiple armoured vehicles and artillery systems. Russia further said its forces struck Ukrainian defence, port, power, transport and logistics infrastructure in 142 areas and claimed its air defences intercepted 988 fixed-wing drones, 17 guided aerial bombs, three HIMARS projectiles and 11 Flamingo cruise missiles. The battlefield claims could not be independently verified.
