The Timpert family’s massive garden railway in Eschershausen, built with support from the LGB Friends of Ith.
Covering an area of 1,100 square meters, the Timpert family in Eschershausen, Lower Saxony, has built one of the largest and most impressive garden railways with support from the LGB Friends of Ith. The theme of this outdoor model railway is the Rhaetian Railway of Switzerland.
The tracks wind their way up a hillside, just like in Switzerland. Along the route, the trains pass through numerous tunnels and over bridges, including some that cross an impressive waterfall. Half a dozen stations of various sizes have been recreated based on the originals.
Several trains run simultaneously through a landscape typical of Switzerland. Only trains faithful to the style of the Rhaetian Railway are used. The model trains are made by LGB, which is now part of Märklin.
Once a year, the Timpert family opens their garden and hosts the Southern Lower Saxony Garden Railway Meet. During the event, visitors can see bustling model train traffic between the “Chur” and “Disentis” stations.
