June Schwarcz: Reinventing a 3,000-Year-Old Art

June Schwarcz took the 3,000-year-old craft of enameling—the art of fusing glass to metal—and reinvented it. Starting at age 36 and largely self-taught, she didn’t know she was breaking rules. Treating thin copper sheets like fabric, she folded, pleated, and “sewed” them into sculptural forms pushing the limits of previous techniques to create something entirely new.
