‘Moral and economic CATASTROPHE!’ | Reform UK’s Robert Jenrick BLASTS benefits Britain

Reform UK Treasury spokesperson Robert Jenrick MP launches a wide-ranging attack on Britain’s current welfare system, arguing that the country’s benefits bill has become unsustainable and “fundamentally unfair.” Jenrick describes Britain as facing huge challenges and sets out his argument for major reform, including the claim that the UK taxpayer is increasingly acting as “the welfare state of the world.”
Jenrick outlines Reform UK’s proposals for overhauling the welfare system, including a welfare-to-work scheme that he says could get 241,000 people back into employment. He argues that long-term benefits claimants who are fit to work should provide 20 hours of work each week for their local community, while also backing the principle of “no British citizenship, no entitlement.” He also discusses the history of the welfare state and why he believes the original social contract described by William Beveridge has been broken.
Jenrick also takes aim at the Conservatives’ welfare proposals, accusing Kemi Badenoch and Mel Stride of offering “paper-thin ideas” and arguing that only major reform can address the scale of the problem. GB News Chief Political Correspondent Katherine Forster also challenges Jenrick over the practicalities of Reform UK’s plans, including whether Brexit arrangements would have to be renegotiated to deliver the proposed changes.
