All right, in another global news, Russia has summoned Japan's ambassador over a promise of
Sana'a package's criticism of President Vladimir Putin's visit to the disputed Kuril Islands.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Japan of crossing the line of propriety and said
Moscow considers Tokyo's comments unacceptable. President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to
on 13th of August has sparked renewed diplomatic tension. The island is one of four southern
Kuril Islands seized by the Soviet Union in the final days of World War II. Japan continues to
claim the island as its own northern territories. Because Russia seized these islands in the days
following Japan's surrender, the territory has long been a major point of contention.
In response to the visit, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi strongly condemned the
move as absolutely unacceptable, saying that it deeply hurts the feelings of the Japanese people.
Our Japanese colleagues, our neighbors, have certainly crossed the line of propriety with
their completely unacceptable statements, claiming that the President of the Russian Federation
cannot visit any part of the territory of the Russian Federation.
Lavrov said Russia had summoned the Japanese ambassador in response to Tokyo's protests.
This comes after Japan had earlier summoned Russia's ambassador to launch its own
formal protest over Putin's visit.
We have summoned the ambassador. He is due to come to the foreign ministry,
and we will discuss both the conduct of the Japanese leadership regarding President Putin's
visit to the Russian island of Ichurup and the way the ambassador ought to conduct his
work in the host country. The Japan continues to maintain its claim over the four disputed
islands in the Kuril chain, making their return a key condition for signing a
formal peace treaty with Russia. But revelations have deteriorated further since Russia's full
invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Japan joining international sanctions against Moscow.
