Born on June 14, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina, Ernesto "Che" Guevara de la Serna was the eldest of five children in a middle-class family of Spanish-Irish descent . Though he suffered from severe asthma from age two, young Ernesto refused to let it define him. He excelled in sports, particularly rugby, and became a voracious reader in his family's library of over 3,000 books .
