UC Safety MJ Cannon Scrimmage Presser
Aug 15, 2026
So talk to Coach Sapp, but just given a lot of reps, a lot of series today,
what was your overall impression being in that back safety spot,
being able to see everything?
I feel like it was pretty good today.
We got a lot of good things, did a lot of good things, but
then also just some things we had to clean up.
It's a lot of snaps, like you said, so a lot of opportunities for
a lot of new guys, too, that's coming in and stepping into new roles.
And we'll watch the tape and figure out what we need to do better as a team and
move on from there.
What's the message with aggressiveness on trying to go for picks, interception?
Is there a fine line you guys are trying to ride, or just go for it every time?
I mean, we try and be as aggressive as possible.
The goal is seven turnovers a game, and that's fumbles, picks,
turnovers on downs, three and outs, stops, things like that.
So our goal is seven turnovers a game, and seven turnovers of practice.
That's what we practice, what we preach.
You played here last year.
How much more fun is it to be on this side of things?
It's a lot more fun just being out with the guys and
seeing how good this team is gonna be this year and how close we are as a unit.
How tough is it when a guy like Ty goes down that you thought was gonna be able
to help, and how much do you say to yourself, all right,
I gotta pick up even maybe a little bit more weight?
Yeah, I mean, it's always tough seeing a guy go down, especially a guy like Ty,
who's gonna be a big part of this team, who's gonna be a big playmaker.
But he goes down, it's the next man up, you know what I'm saying?
We gotta bring guys along, and new guys gotta step up into that role,
and you gotta see, just prove who it's gonna be, so.
How does Coach Woody help you guys kind of take in this defense and
really have it set in the best way possible compared to other coaches?
I mean, Woody's been around the game a long time.
He knows a lot.
I mean, he's one of the greatest minds I've seen coaching defense.
And learning from him is amazing.
I've started to see things through a new lens.
And I think he's gonna be a real good defense this year.
How many picks is Kenny Worthy gonna have this year?
A lot, a lot.
As we've seen out there, he should have had three today.
But man, Kenny, he's a great player.
He's a ball hog.
He plays with great energy, great emotion.
And I can't wait to see what he does this year.
Is there something about his game that you haven't kind of been around in
your career?
Is there a trait that he has that nobody else has had that you've been
a teammate of?
I would say I've been around those traits, but
I feel like he has all the traits.
I've seen maybe the great emotion trait in maybe one guy or one single guy.
He has every single trait that you would want in a football player, and
especially a cornerback, especially a defensive player.
When you turn on the tape of today,
what's the first thing you're gonna be looking at for yourself individually?
Just focus on what I can do better, how can I detail it even more and
be more precise in my assignment, more precise in my technique, things like that.
Anything else?
Thanks, FK.
Appreciate it.
