AI GeneratedA defensive player discusses his transition into a new role under Coach Woody, emphasizing a focus on sacks and strip sacks. He credits his coaching staff, his father's NFL legacy, and a rigorous strength and recovery program for his readiness. He expresses high confidence in the defense's hunger and the quality of preparation provided by the team's facilities and nutritionists.
If you were alive today, how many quarterbacks would have went down?
If we were alive, we definitely, a lot.
I can't even give you a number on that.
But the defensive scheme, Coach Woody is allowing us to bring a lot of guys.
So the more guys we bring, the more opportunities we have to get sacks.
And another thing that Coach Woody has been talking about is not only getting
the sack, but getting strip sacks as well.
So that's something that we've been really emphasizing the last,
pretty much all camp really.
Pretty much new defense, new role for you.
I feel like this transition is going really good,
especially with my dad playing a similar position in the NFL.
It really makes it a whole lot easier.
Coach Brathwaite, he's been coaching me really well.
He's been coaching all of us really well,
making sure that we understand every single little detail.
Make sure landmarks, when we're supposed to be a quarterback player,
just little things like that.
So Coach Brathwaite, I think he's doing a really good job in coaching us and
making sure we understand every single little detail.
Zero to 100% on this new role for you.
How comfortable do you feel out of that percentage?
Definitely 100.
Being able to be closer to the line of scrimmage,
it definitely makes me feel more comfortable.
Rather than coming downhill from ten yards, it's just easier to make plays.
But I'm just really excited to see what the defense can do.
Who's hungrier, you or Mook?
Because he seems excited to be wrestling quarterback too.
Yeah, I mean, we all are hungry to go get the quarterback.
We're all striving to be the best players as we can.
We're all trying to get to the quarterback, all trying to cause fumbles,
interceptions, we're all trying to do all those things.
So the entire defense is hungry, we're trying to be a great team.
Who's the toughest to bring down out of the bunch?
I mean, they're all pretty tough to bring down.
You've got guys like Zion, Fast, Running Back, Shifty.
All the running backs I feel like so far have been pretty hard to tackle.
Receivers, Kay Wolford, I have to guard him every now and then.
He's also pretty quick, very quick.
But the entire offense, they're definitely very hard to bring down.
The offense is gonna be most likely the toughest team that we play in the Big 12.
So this is definitely great preparation for us.
Speaking of preparation, does anything for you change with day-to-day preparation
for your body, getting ready for the season with just less than a month to go
until game one?
Yeah, especially being here in this facility, all camp,
everything we need is right here, and all the recovery things that we need.
Coach Neagle has really put a big emphasis on recovery routine.
We got an app now where we just put everything that we did for
that day, and it's just personalized for us.
So we can just put down whatever we wanna do for that day, and
just do it every single day.
Consistency, that's a big thing that we've been talking about.
Staying consistent in your routine, whether it's recovery,
on the field, everything.
What was the off-season like, bulking up and
getting ready to be a little bit closer to the line of scrimmage?
Yeah, I wasn't really expecting to put on that much weight,
but Coach Neagle has been doing a really good job with all of us in the weight
room, getting stronger, faster.
I definitely feel like I'm probably the fastest I've ever been here,
being at 225 to 230, not a lot of guys can say that.
So definitely kudos to Coach Neagle and his strength staff, and
the trainers as well, making sure that my body's right.
And yeah, I definitely feel really good.
How much has your diet changed from last year compared to this year?
I don't really think it's really changed at all.
I definitely try to eliminate going out to eat,
just getting groceries and actually learning how to cook.
That's something that our nutritionists have been helping us out with.
In the off-season, they would hold, for example,
the DBs would come in and the cooks would teach us how to cook.
So that was definitely very cool, but the nutrition staff does a really good job at
making sure that we know how to fuel our bodies,
what supplements are gonna do what, but they do a really good job.
With that added size, can you keep up with your dad in the weight room yet, or?
He's definitely a different breed, but I'm getting there.
Yep, thanks.
