Wall House — A Home Designed to Breathe

Recent research suggests that indoor air can sometimes be more polluted than outdoor air. This became the starting point for **Wall House**, a home designed to breathe naturally throughout the day and night, reducing its dependence on mechanical systems.

The outer layer is made from hollow bricks arranged in an unconventional orientation. Small openings between the bricks allow air and daylight to pass through while maintaining privacy and protection from the surrounding urban environment.

Behind these porous walls, gardens create a second environmental layer. Vegetation acts as a natural buffer between the house and the street, helping create cooler and more comfortable spaces while strengthening the connection between the interior and nature.

Together, the brick walls and gardens perform many of the functions normally associated with a conventional enclosure. But instead of completely blocking the outside world, they filter it—allowing air, light, and vegetation to remain part of the living environment.

Wall House demonstrates how architecture can respond to environmental challenges through simple passive strategies. Instead of relying entirely on technology to control the indoor environment, the building uses its walls, gardens, openings, and spatial organization to work with natural forces.
