The Antiques We Bought Before the Price Jump
A 50% price increase may change cross-border antique shopping—so we head to Vancouver, British Columbia before everything changes.
Oh, Canada! The antiques and vintage items are fun, unexpected, and about to cost American buyers much more. We cross the border while we can and return with 20 cool and varied finds to list and sell on eBay before it is too late.
A whimsical cat purse, an inspirational motto, and a scarce 1930s donkey feel familiar, but the real fun comes from discovering pieces we seldom see in our usual shopping spots. This Canadian hunt includes mushrooms with a mistaken identity, a trophy owned by a canine contender, and a bird from a company with more collectors than available pieces.
We also find glass jewels, Swedish modernism, a raku miniature, and Anglophile antiques, including a London Exhibition tray and a Shelley juvenile plate by a famous illustrator. As the United States considers a 50% tax on antiques purchased from Canada, we wonder how much longer these cross-border finds remain within reach for collectors across North America.
