This "Female Portrait" from the second half of the 19th century arrived in my workshop as a work by an unknown artist. But during the restoration process, beneath layers of darkened varnish, the artist's signature and date were revealed – A. Sedov, 1883! 🖋️ It's incredible luck to restore the name of a forgotten master after decades.
To restore the painting to its former glory, a painstaking and careful process was required:
• I healed the canvas wounds – I glued the tears and reinforced the weakened edges;
• Strengthened the primer and fixed the crumbling paint layer;
• Cleaned the reverse side and removed the old, darkened varnish that distorted the original colors;
• Applied restoration primer to the damaged areas;
• Performed delicate toning and coated the portrait with a new protective layer of varnish. 🛡️
When you see the girl's cleaned face looking back at you from the depths of centuries, and the name of its creator proudly shines at the bottom of the painting... you realize it was all worth it. ☺️
