Located in Shimen District, New Taipei City, the Taiwan Coral Shell Temple is a unique religious and artistic landmark. Dedicated primarily to Jigong, the temple began with a vow made in 1996 to build a permanent home for the deity. The first temple was completed in Sanzhi in 1998 and was later relocated to Shimen as its popularity and visitor numbers grew.
The temple is renowned for its extraordinary decoration using hundreds of thousands of natural corals and seashells. The shells and corals adorn the temple walls, pillars, roofs, and religious artworks, creating the spectacular impression of an underwater Dragon Palace.
One of its most fascinating features is the “Eighteen Arhats Cave,” a narrow passage decorated with corals and shells to recreate the mysterious atmosphere of an underwater world.
