They also touch upon the transition of Mike Tomlin to the broadcast booth and analyze recent roster moves, specifically Stefon Diggs joining the Washington Commanders and the pressure on coach Dan Quinn.
But I want to get your thoughts here Scott because I am also fascinated one of the new head coaches
on a sideline for a team this year and we just got to watch the former coach actually in the
booth last night there with Mike Tomlin. Mike McCarthy now on the sidelines there of the
Pittsburgh Steelers. I'm fat, call me crazy. Aaron Rodgers with knowing this is it, knowing he can
take shots at everyone on the way out the door. I think it's going to be must watch television
here this year. I just can't figure out if what we're going to get from McCarthy that we didn't
get from Tomlin. I mean I nobody did more with less than Tomlin did. I mean is he going to win
all of those one score games McCarthy like Tomlin did? Like I don't know what we're going to get
but I know this it's going to be entertaining as all hell to watch. Yeah I mean you know why
because you're right with Rodgers knowing this is probably it. You know he showed up a lot of
players last year when things weren't going well and for the most part they you know they did go
well. He was still yelling and screaming on them. You remember the one play he wouldn't come off the
field when they won the field goal and which game that was. Then the next drive they decided to go
forward and he wanted to come off the field. I mean you know the dude's got to be 43. God bless
some of us still playing and everything. He's got to be 43 Joe you know in December. I think this
has got awfulness however you want to say it written all over it. I really do. You're right
you know I'm a Tomlin guy. I know they didn't win in the postseason but I think that was just
the classic case of he took a mediocre team to playoff level. He didn't take a playoff team
and keep them just a playoff team. He got the most out of that team. They weren't favorites at
any of those games that they were losing in the postseason over the last 10 years anyway.
So I think that your Steelers fans are going to find that out. You know they kind of pushed him
out a little bit. I think they're going to you know question that after this season. I think
this has got disaster written all over it. I really do. Well it'll be fun to watch it all
crumble or I mean who knows. We'll see if McCarthy can get the best
out of Aaron Rodgers and that offense because they're going to need to do.
Right he couldn't win with a young Troy Aikman down in Dallas with all the weapons. How's he
gonna win with an old Aaron Rodgers realistically? I don't see it. And a very old defense too. That's
the other problem with listen for Tomlin to leave to go and sit with that crew last night
on television. And you know he was done. Like he had it up to he's like I'm not coming back
to this disaster. We can't get a quarterback. We're paying more money for an aging defense
than any other team. Like all of this is going to end in flames. I think he knew exactly what
he was doing going yeah I'm good my time is up. I'll see you in like a year or two. I'll come back
and I'll pick the team that I want to be with. But yeah right now I am good to go with that.
Also by the way they start they're putting a microphone in Stefan Diggs's face a lot here.
He's got a new team with the commanders. I'm kind of shocked that him and Deebo opened up camp
without being on teams. And we know the injury to the 49ers. Deebo goes back home. That's an easy
fit. Diggs with the commanders I think is very interesting. You know Terry McLaren is going to
be the number one. Diggs is now your number two. I don't know. I mean Daniels took a big step back
last year. You want to talk about hot seat. Is Dan Quinn on a hot seat here Scotty? Yeah I think so.
You know this is a strange one a team right. Are you going to get this Washington team from two
years ago that surprised everybody? Or are you going to get the Washington team you know all
being with Daniels being hurt but that let everybody down right. You wonder about Diggs
too. You know he had 85 receptions for a thousand yards. Not that many touchdowns.
You know but he was pretty productive. I know he had a balloon payment. You know they set up
the contract where there's no way he was going to be on a team. But that didn't stop Patriots from
ripping that up. Diggs from ripping that up and saying all right we'll just give you a new deal.
But we want you. You were productive last year. So I'm a little surprised you know especially
with New England's passing game that they let him go.
