Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis video provides a comprehensive guide on creating and installing a custom sight tape for a compound bow using Precision Cut Archery. By combining precise equipment measurements and atmospheric data with a digital calculator, the user can eliminate the tedious trial-and-error process of manual sighting, ensuring high accuracy across various distances from 20 to 60 yards.
Hey everybody, yesterday we built my brand new bow
and new arrows, so today Branch is going to get
us rocking with the sight tape. Yes, we're going to be using precision cut archery.
It's super easy to get a sight tape really quick. Starting out we're going to
get our arrow weight, then we're going to get our peep
to lens measurement and our peep height measurement.
We're also going to get our arrow speed and density altitude and be able to bring a
tape, lay it on there, compare your tapes, lay
So starting out we're going to get our arrow weight and that
is going to be 389.2. Write that down. We'll move on to getting
our measurements. So next up we're going to get our pin to
peep and peep height measurement. This is
really easy with a draw board, but you can do this at full draw. You just want
to be super safe and have someone who knows what they're
doing taking your measurements, but this makes it nice. I can draw it back.
You just want to get all the way to full draw just like that and then
go ahead and throw our arrow in and take my
tape measure. First we'll measure from our pin
to the center of our peep. So I'm going to go from the pin
to the center of our peep and that is 26.5.
So go ahead and write that down. For peep height? Pin to peep.
But I'll know, I'll be able to know which measurements. I just want to put
26.5. Yes ma'am, let me double check. Perfect.
Then next up we're going to do our peep height and this is going to be the
measurement from the center of the arrow to the center of our peep like that and
that is going to be three and a quarter.
Three and a quarter peep height. We'll let our
bow down slowly and go get our arrow speed.
Sweet. So let's go set up our chronograph. You know we're sighted in. Normally I
like to start about 10 yards if we haven't sighted in,
but we were pretty dialed yesterday for league night.
We'll start to shoot at 20 yards. This is really easy. We're just going to have to
shoot right next to it and let's shoot at
there's kind of three roofers now. Three roofers now between
targets nine and ten. See the three roofers now between nine and ten?
Shoot the far right one. Okay. All right so we're going to do a three arrow
average with the Garmin so we can have a consistent group size.
We're just going to shoot right over the top of this and we're shooting for the
right roofers now. Shoot from the shooting line.
I'm afraid I'm going to shoot it. Very good.
235. Okay. 234.5. Pretty consistent.
Blinched with that one. Good. 235.4. So our average is a 235.
So we'll go add that. We'll write this down. Okay.
Go pull those and then enter it into the precision cut.
So we're going to add it to precision cut. We're going to start by going to my
setups and adding a bow. I'm going to add your bow.
Choose our sight. So that's going to be the HHA Nitrex.
Let's see. Scroll down here. Nitrex Pro. And then our peep height was
3.25. 3.25. And our sight radius that's going to be
the pin to peep. 26.5. 26.5.
Awesome. So we've created that and then we're going to go to add an arrow.
This is going to be a 5.0. And our arrow weight. 389.2.
389.2. We'll create our arrow. And then we're going to do sight in now.
We're going to do the quick start method but first we need to get our density
altitude. So what we're going to do is we're going
to go search up Des Moines
Iowa density altitude. I think it's like 8 something.
So density altitude approximately 16 to 1800.
I don't think so. Let's see. Maybe. Let's try to
see if this has it for us. I mean I could be wrong but
well maybe this average. Maybe like an average. You need the
average? So each day changes based upon the weather. So some days
if it's really rainy it can be low. So it changes pretty
consistently. So I think that's probably going to give us a good
average. We'll just say we'll just say 1700
and go from there. All right. And like a big jump would have to be
like thousands of density altitude for it to start
affecting your arrow. So long as you're close.
And our launch speed that was 235. Yep. Okay. Add that in. Create our sight in.
And then what I do is go to sight tapes right here. It's automatically pulling up
your bow. So Caitlin's bow. And we're just going to want to print
this. You want to include the scale checker. You can take a card
and make sure that it matches up. I've done this a lot so I know but we'll
give it all to me. Yes. Yeah. We don't need to include help.
We'll conclude our setup specs. That way you've got those and keep it.
And then tape settings. We don't need that. So it's going to print us three
tapes. Let's download our pdf. Click on it. And so there's our tapes.
And we're just going to print it out.
And we'll just match it up to what your booklets are in
the HHA box. Okay. Pretty straightforward.
Yeah. It's really easy and it's for us it's been within
a yard at 100. So for most people that's going to be super accurate. Yeah. Super
consistent. Throwing it on there and getting going
to shoot 20 and 60. Right. I'm trying to find a day that's not so windy or
whatever. So let's grab our tapes.
Perfect. All right. So we're going to grab our
tapes here. And I figure we're probably going to be a little bit slower. So let's
start on the back end. What you're going to
want to do. What are you trying to say? I don't say anything. I don't say
anything. I'm weak. That's what he's saying.
So what we're going to do is we're going to match up our 20 and we're going to
try and find where 20 and 60 align. So 20.
We need to go faster because we've got a gap here.
Yeah. So we're going to go faster. So I'm going to fold it over. I'm just
kind of guessing here to get started. So line up our 20 and our 60 and we are
really really close. That may be spot on. Just a little bit higher. So we may go to
our next one. 20 and 60 is spot on. Pretty spot on.
So we're going to be Sight Tape 68. Try and pull Sight Tape 68 off. Get the
bow and the vice and lay it down. So for this you can pull off your setup
tape that comes on it. I kind of like to keep it. Well you know
what we'll do for now. I'm just going to take
our extra wheel. That way you have your setup tape if you ever want to go
shoot it through that. I'm just going to lay it on this this wheel right here.
Lay it down. Roll it over.
Nice and pretty. Then we'll move this wheel off
and pull this. Now if you were just sighting this in
by yourself we've got our zero and you're just going to back out to 60
and sight in like you would with most Sight Tapes. Rolling this down until it's
knocking at 60. It'll tell you you know Sight Tape
whatever was that 38 and then line up at 68 and you'd know which one to use on
on the nitric site. I'm just going to take it. I want to make
sure my indicator at our top is lining up with 20.
Tighten this down and then do you plan to be shooting
these pins at 20, 30, and 40? Is that what you would like to do with the
XP3? Probably. Okay so then what I'm going to do is I'm going to move these
indicators to point at 20, 30, and 40 as well.
Just so that's already kind of set for you. So I'm just moving those up
trying to get them to line. It can be a tedious task.
Sometimes 30s lined up, 20s lined up.
We've got our indicators at 20, 30, and 40 with our Sight Tape 68.
So whenever you're ready let's loosen it up, rover it out.
Now our top pin will be about 40. Awesome. Cool. I love that HHA has the
nice like colors. Makes it easy to see. Quick. Yes ma'am.
Cool. Awesome. I'm ready. Let's do it. Deer season.
All right you guys we got it all set up with the Sight Tape.
Should be pretty accurate. So we'll see. But we're gonna go
take it home, do some shooting in the yard, just double check everything.
And it's summertime so it's time to start shooting regardless. So I'm very
excited. Thank you Branch. Yeah absolutely. For everything.
Very knowledgeable. So if you guys are in Texas, stop by Corbin's Archery.
We'll see you at home. Y'all have a great day. Okay guys we are
back home and we are going to make sure that my Sight Tape
is fully correct. As you know in the shop we use the
Precision Cut to figure out what Sight Tape I needed.
I am Sight Tape 68 and at 20 it was on. So we know that is at least
good but we need to shoot at some different yardages.
And typically without Precision Cut what you would do
is shoot 20 and 60 and then you'd find your Sight Tape.
And it was kind of a whole complicated process.
So as long as this is accurate, which I'm assuming it is because it's
based on math, but as long as this is accurate this is
definitely a much more seamless process and you don't have to have
like a range to shoot at that goes out to 60.
So I luckily do. So we're gonna shoot at 60.
But I think what we're gonna do is just start at 20, make sure we're still good
and then just work our way back and see how it does. But we got the new HHA
Nitrix Pro and I love this site already. It's
so seamless, it's so clean, it matches the bow.
And to be honest I've always been an HHA fan. I've used different sites over the
years but I love the Sight Tapes on them because
they're color-coded and so when you're needing to dial really
quickly it's very easy to find what yardage you need. So that's one thing I'm
really excited to be using this year. But yeah, let's get into it. Okay, we're
just gonna do one at 20. I know I'm sighted in for that but just
to make sure everything's still on from travel. Believe me,
I need to shoot more. Here we go. We are on, I just tend to hold low
and I guess slightly right. This is why you shoot every day
so you have better groups than this. I've been waiting so we can do the Sight
Tape. But the biggest thing right now, even if
you are like me and you haven't shot a bunch yet,
as long as your arrow's hitting where your pin
is settled, that's how you know if it's on.
So you got to pay attention to that. Okay, so we're now at 30
and what we're gonna do is, just for simplicity, we're gonna
dial to each yardage. So we'll do 20, 30, 40
out to 60 and then we'll go back and shoot
30, 40 with my indicators to see if those are on.
So try 30, top pin hooks on. Also for the record,
I'm a little, I'm for sure not like as rock
solid as I want to be, but I also have a little target panic and one thing with
that is I never aim for the exact same spot. So you're never gonna see me with a
insanely tight group because I just don't like to do that.
I don't like to bust arrows. So far, so good.
So we're gonna go to 40 now. It's toasty. All right, 40, top pin.
There we go, that was good.
So far, so good. Don't look. Okay, we're not gonna talk about
this one because I won't. These look really good. So I'm okay
with that. That's just how I know I need to shoot
more. All right, 50. Also this might,
this may or may not matter. If you have a lower poundage,
every yard could matter, especially like when I was shooting 40 pounds. Like
one or two yards for me was a big deal. So one thing I recommend is keeping
like a consistent, I'll just call it an anchor point when
you're dialing if you have lower poundage. If you don't,
you could literally be a yard or two off and still probably hit the same spot
because your speed. But I like to like put my cam on the
corner of my head so I know I'm like hitting the same
exact spot every time. All right, 50. We're getting close to no
clearance here. 60 could be interesting. Just spin my
arrows. All right, I am hitting right though, huh?
Pretty consistent. I'm not gonna adjust anything though until
I shoot more. I'm getting tired. Okay, last one. Still a touch low but I
think that's just me. Okay, noticing a trend
and that is I'm hitting to the right. I'm also hitting low but
I think I naturally tend to hold low so I don't even really want to take that
into account. So the right thing is what I'm going to
pay attention to as I'm shooting the next couple weeks.
I'm not going to adjust anything until I get into better shooting shape and feel
like I'm steady. Right now I don't feel like the most
steady so there's a chance that I'm just dropping
and maybe pulling right as I drop. But aside from that,
I am very happy with that group overall at 50.
Let's see if we can go to 60. To be honest, I might run out of clearance
so we might have to see what happens there.
All right, 60. I will say my arrows are a lot heavier than my
previous arrows so
it's gonna be close. I might have to do like 59.
If I lay, if I spin it a little bit I think we'll be okay.
It's risky but you know what, do it for the plot.
I think it's fine. I think my other arrows I could get like
70 out of so it's not that much difference
and realistically I'm not going to shoot an animal probably
that far. Don't mind the noise, they're doing road work.
Very fun thing. Okay, I'm gonna truth.
Oof, so sketchy. Can't even see it. Oh, smack dab in the middle.
I don't know why I was worried. So the biggest thing also I want to note and
I can say this because when you shoot Total Archery Challenge or any sort of
like 3D course and you start to run out of clearance,
some people are wary about, oh like a certain vein has to be up.
Yes but no. Like end of the day as long as there's no
contact whether it's with the sight or the rest or
your veins hitting your roller guard or anything,
as long as it's like a clear shot, twisting the arrow is not going to make
that big of a difference. Like there's times where I'd even have
to flip them completely upside down just to get clearance but
kind of the way I have these oriented I can just twist them sideways and I think
can't see it so far away. Oh no, it's a little higher. Honestly,
it's hitting where I want it to so that's what I care about.
All right, last one. Touch right I think but
we're in the ballpark. I'm getting tired but
honestly not the worst. Let's go look. All right, we're not going to talk about
why my 60 was better than my like 40 yard
group but I'll take it. I always have one that
just wants to fly weird but I think that's just like
I get lazy or tired and then that happens
but for 60 yards that's not that bad. I mean that's less than a pie plate so
I am happy with that. I would say my sight tape is on
and I don't think we have to make any adjustments. I think what we're going to
do now is instead of dialing we're going to set
it back to 20 and then just use my 30 and 40 indicators to make sure that
those are on because you know sometimes in the field
you don't want to have to dial or you don't have time to dial so I want to
make sure those are at least ready to go. Okay, so we're going to dial
back to 20 which should also be your stop too.
That's a good good way to know you're at 20
which means 30, 40 are the other indicators so we're just going to shoot
with those. See how we do. Okay, for the sake of me
being tired I'm just gonna do one arrow at each distance and then if they
suck then I'll do more but I think we would be on. So second pin
that was me. I'll do another one though and I'm gonna leave those. We're gonna go
back to 40. Everything should be on. I'm not gonna
touch anything. Use my third pin. I'll use my second pin.
Scratch that. Hold on. That's not what you want to do
and that's why we buy the big targets. A little low.
Again, I'm getting tired but I think it's on.
I'm just dropping my arm for some reason. Get it together, Caitlin.
Biggest buck of your life. 40 yards. Low. He dropped into it.
Smoked him. All right, last arrow. Make it count.
There we go. I'm tired. You know, it's not the worst. I think
it was like one, two, three. So really could be could be way worse.
As a group it's not bad. So my overall thoughts
are that my sight tape is on
and I need to shoot more but
I feel very confident in the setup. It's just a matter of kind of getting my
muscles back in and like just practicing because I'm not
somebody. I know there's people that say, oh I don't ever shoot. They just go out
and shoot a deer the first sit. I'm not one of those people. I gotta
shoot. I gotta practice. I gotta feel like mentally in it. So
those are gonna be. Honestly, I'll probably have a couple videos of just
kind of going through that. If you haven't seen it and if you deal
with any kind of target panic or just feel like you need to also get
into shooting shape this past year. So last year I made a
shooting shape series which is one of my playlists. Go check
it out because that is literally my step-by-step on how to get
into shooting shape. That's a side note but I do think it
helps a lot and that's literally what I do. It's just
my process of getting ready for deer season. So
hopefully somebody finds that helpful but for now
I'm very happy with the accuracy of this. I was a little skeptical but I mean
I guess at the end of the day it's really just a bunch of calculations and
as long as everything in your setup is how you want it to be
it should get you a very accurate sight tape. So I'm really happy with that. It's
just a matter of shooting now and I'm so ready for deer season. I wish
the temps would drop a little bit but other than that I'm so ready
and yeah. Thank you guys so much for watching. I'll see you in the next one.
