899. Throwing a MKM HR Roller Texture Tea Cup/Coffee Mug with Hsin-Chuen Lin 林新春 陶藝分享

I'll pour a little bit of water on my bed system so the vacuum will create a suction. I'm going to use this texture from MKM. I found out this is a little bit too tight so I use the same paper to sand it down so the length is a little bit smaller. I'm going to use this to my demonstration. For the texture to be able to roll it deep enough, you need to have a support. So that's why I prepared this copper tube wrapping with the newspaper so that when I put it in and I cover that the clay is fitting very tight on the wall of this tube so that when I roll it, it will be deep enough because I have a support. You can make it slightly smaller so the closer the better. You don't want to make your opening too wide. Okay that's good and then I will add a little bit of water here to soften a bit this part here so that I don't create too much wrinkle in the corner. And then let's put it in. Make sure I push it all the way down. Okay so that's good in the center and then our color started from the bottom and then raise it up so that the air slowly released. I put my both hands here. Slippery. Use the palm and squeeze it from the base slowly. More water. Okay so now it's fitting tight. I'm going to use the rip to make sure the surface is clean. And also make sure the surface is straight and if you're not planning to stretch it too much, you can actually use a tool to remove the clay like a wet trim so that you don't need to stretch it too much. Remove some clay from the surface. Okay that's good. The surface is nice and clean. You can use a rip to if you wanted to. And then I'll bring back the roller here. And I don't want the clay to stick it onto the wood so usually before I roll it I could soak this in the water. Do it a couple times. Soak it in the water so it'll release. Now ready to go and then all you need to do is just push and spin the wheel slowly so you will be able to see the starting point and ending point so that they connect together. I'm going to do this slowly. Let's do it from this angle. Okay so that is the texture I rolled over. And now all you need to do is just remove the tube and clean this up a bit before I remove the tube. See that? That's the beauty of having a piece of newspaper here so you can remove it easily. If your cylinder is too tall maybe you might want to do two layers of newspaper instead of one. And just remove the inner part of the newspaper and roll it, roll it, roll it. Okay so that's it. Let me pull it out so we can see what that inside looks like. Inside looks like this. I just get a piece of wood to stretch the corner a bit. If you want the inside slightly curved I'm using my number six stretching stick and push that in my corner. Slightly push it out so that part has a little curve. I'm going to put a bit of water inside so it's to lubricate it and then slightly stretch it depending on what you're making. If you're making a teapot and you can stretch it out further or if you're making just a mug then keep it slightly narrower. Then I want a slightly angle on the bottom so I use my wrench here and hold it so the bottom is slightly angled. And then this is the lip part, lip for you to drink out of it. So I want to compress it to make it smooth. Okay and then just use my number 17 to remove the skirt of clay. So this is my demonstration.
