With stories that matter to you, this is Fox six wake up news. Well, good
morning everybody. Welcome back to wake up here at eight o'clock rob right on
time. Yes. Hi. Welcome. Uh yeah, it's a really sticky day today. Uh trying to
move very slowly as a result, right? Potentially a lot hanging out. A lot of
moisture is hanging out in the air. You can kind of see it on some of the area
cameras. North Lake cams a great example there. Of course, that's kind
of boosted by the corn crop adding to that. And then here's another shot of
some of the fog out of the slinger cam on the D. O. T. Network. Now the tower
cam shows a bit of that as well. But the airport's actually doing pretty well
with nine mile visibility. Air temperature is 79 2.74. So a lot of
moisture in the air. But those two numbers are separated just enough so
it's not too bad. Ah, there we go. The dense fog advisory has expired on
schedule. It was set to expire at eight a.m. And it has done so now the last
few hours we have not seen much in the way of thunderstorms at all. We were on
watch for that. We're paying close attention because all the ingredients
are there. We just didn't quite get the trigger to put it all together. Later
today we may see a little complex here or some others that are popping, you
know, look like that in our area as well. And so there still is that
concern. We do still have an enhanced risk of severe weather across our
entire viewing area. So if we do get storms later on today, they could be
very, very strong to severe. So please stay weather aware. Despite this first
round, not really happening at all. Southwest wind keeps delivering that
hot and sticky air and then the wind shifts to the northeast tonight to
change it all up. But in the meantime, we should get to near 90 and feel even
hotter temperatures, mostly in the seventies, low eighties for the right
end. And it's a mess for that ride in as we give you a live look at the
Milwaukee area metro map. Now, some of these cameras like here on 7 94 coming
over the home bridge. Pretty normal. We're seeing construction delays
throughout the Milwaukee metro area. But a little bit south on the map is
this the main problem spot of the morning. And we do have updated
information on just what's causing this. So first of all, there is a full
closure of 94 northbound at Drexel Avenue because of a crash early this
morning. But the backups go all the way past Ryan Road. So if you're coming
north on 94, this has been the issue. Now, as for the information, we just
got this from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded
to a vehicle crash about 4 30 this morning on 94 near Drexel Avenue in
the northbound lanes. Now, as they were responding to that crash, it was
reported that another crash happened when one of the canine deputies had
their vehicle rear ended as the deputy was trying to close the lanes for that
initial crash. So a bit of a domino effect here inside of that other car
that hit the deputies squad car, a man, a woman and a small child who all
remained at the scene. The deputy had non life threatening injuries, was
taken to a hospital, though, for examination. The canine partner, by the
way, also non life threatening injuries. A veterinarian examined and cleared
that dog. Now, as for the freeway is still closed again, going northbound at
Drexel Avenue on 94 traffic is being diverted off. There are major delays
still. As soon as that gets open, this should hopefully get relieved. But for
now, a mess on the south side of Milwaukee in the Oak Creek area. All
right, Carl, thank you. Certainly explains his backup. This has been
going on now for several hours, but we still can't explain what this is all
about. Yeah, we're still seeing thousands of we energies customers who
do not have power right now. 18,000. We energies customers are in the dark
right now in Milwaukee County. We did reach out to we energies to try to
figure out what's causing this. You know, as we know, typically outages air
weather related. That doesn't seem to be the case here, so we'll keep you
posted as we learn more. We also don't know yet how long it's going to be
until the lights will come back on. But you cannot have your power restored
unless you report it. So definitely give them a call. If you are among
these customers who is not without or who is without power. Excuse me this
morning. Okay, I knew this morning one person is recovering at the hospital
after water rescue in Oak Creek. Emergency crews responded to Bender
Park at around 6 45 on Sunday night. The victim had a serious injury and
was unable to get out of the water. Rescue swimmers were able to get the
injured person to a rescue boat. There's no word on that person's
condition this morning. A 14 year old boy is dead after a crash saturday in
Sheboygan. Police say the teen was riding an electric bike and witnesses
tell investigators he ran a stop sign at 25th and Broadway and was hit by a
car. Police say the driver did stay at the scene and cooperated with the
investigation. A police officer and his father are recovering from serious
injuries after a saturday morning explosion in Cedarburg. Just take a
look here. This was the damage that was left behind. Michael Foger is a
lieutenant with Jackson Pd. He also served as police chief in Newburgh for
10 years. Investigators say the blast appears to be accidental and may have
been caused by a propane tank. A fundraiser has been set up to help this
family. If you'd like to help, you can find the link on our website or on fox
local. Really sad situation up there in Cedarburg. Hopefully they're not early
in person voting for the august primary starts tomorrow. This is we're also
learning about another union that's backing one of the top democratic
contenders. Again, this is where the governor's race are. Stephanie cork is
live in our newsroom with the latest and step. All of this is coming as a new
Marquette University Law School poll is set to be released this week as well.
And this one we hope is a little bit more reflective of the current state of
this race. Yeah, absolutely. Good morning. And that poll could just give
us a better look at where things stand following a number of shake ups,
particularly in the democratic race to replace Governor Tony Evers. All of
this at the same time, Fox six is learning that the United Auto Workers
Wisconsin State Council is endorsing Mandela Barnes. Now U. A. W. Region four
director Brandon Campbell sent a statement to Fox six is political
reporter Jason Calvi. It reads in part quote Mandela has always been on the
side of unions and working people. He walked the picket line with us and
fought with us against plant closings. Now Barnes tells Fox six he's honored
to have the U. A. W. S. Backing saying that his father's membership in the
union helped open the doors to a lot of opportunities during his middle class
upbringing. The endorsement comes as other unions have also gotten involved
in the race for governor on both sides of the aisle, really on the republican
side of the race for governor. Tom Tiffany is backed by the Milwaukee
Police Association and the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriff's Association. But aside
from endorsements, we're also expecting to get a better picture really in the
race for governor with that new Marquette Law School poll that's set to
be released Wednesday. As for the most recent polls results, you're looking at
those results that said, as you mentioned, Nicola Marquette surveyed
voters before Crowley reentered the race with the backing of Governor Evers and
before Sarah Rodriguez dropped out amid a financial scandal. So you could see
Rodriguez was in this poll and Crowley was not. That said, it showed that the
majority of voters on the democratic side of things in the race for governor
remained undecided. Meantime, tomorrow night, democratic candidates will also
take this stage at Marquette University for a debate ahead of the primary
election day, which again is on august 11th. So just about two weeks from now,
guys. All right, Steph, thank you so much. And hey, speaking of early in
person voting, which begins tomorrow, there are six sites that are going to
be open for that in the city of Milwaukee. The times do vary by
location. So just make sure that you check your polling place before you go.
Also, don't forget to bring a photo I. D. And a reminder that you can register
to vote at the polls. You just have to bring a proof of address. Something
like a utility bill will do just fine again. Election day itself is on august
11th. Well, the countdown to football season is almost reached its end. I
know this is so weird. Okay, the Packers are back up in Green Bay this
week. Coming up, we are looking ahead to the start of training camp and all of
the beloved tradition that come along with it. Meanwhile, still midway through
baseball season here and the Brewers are rolling at least when Mizorowski is
on the mound. We'll tell you how the Brewers ace added to his Cy Young
resume and show you his record setting performance to start off this game
against the Rocks. Oh my gosh, it was so much to look forward to. We need
lots of coffee to get through all the summer fun. And that's where brian
cramp comes in. He's got a spot in Wauwatosa where they're really getting
creative with your morning cup of java. Yeah, beautiful. I'll tell you what,
and it's a beautiful spot. They're very creative to seasonal drinks here.
They got them, you know, it's different from fall to winter to summer and
Daniel and her team got some amazing drinks. They want you to try. We're
gonna see what they're serving up here at idle coffee roasters in Wauwatosa.
But up next on Fox six wake up and a live look outside at N. K. E. Probably
a little quieter there than it was over the weekend, helping out with the air
show. Of course, it was a fun couple of days, even without the Blue Angels and
Thunderbirds in town loving those jets. Fox six wake up news Milwaukee's most
trusted morning news show two outs in the first minute trying to strike out
the side and then we'll do it again in the second inning and almost do it
again in the third inning. It was history for Brewers ace Jacob
Mizorowski on sunday dominating the lowly colorado Rockies says he set a
franchise record by striking out the 1st 7 batters to start the game. He
also broke his own record for the most 100 mile per hour pitches in a single
game. Since pitch tracking began back in 2008, he topped 100 or more on 66 of
his 83 pitches. Just sensational. I bet he's not even sore today. Yeah, it was
effortless. At least that's how it appeared on the map. You're right,
makes it look easy. All right. Uh, I mean, a linebacker riding a trike
doesn't exactly look easy to me, but we do it every year because this is how we
start training camp. Yeah, another football season kicking off in title
town this week. Packers players are arriving today for training camp up in
Green Bay. The first practice is on Wednesday. Now these practices we
should mention are free and open to the public. You got a free afternoon, you
want to go see the players in action. Definitely head on up there. Kids are
encouraged as well to bring their bikes for players to ride on the way to
the practice field. It's one of the best traditions in football, right? Sure
is. All right. Lambeau Field speaking of is going to be packed with fans
today. Not for a game, of course, but for the annual shareholders meeting
that starts at one o'clock. It's the first shareholders meeting for new team
president and Ceo Ed Policy who took over for retiring Mark Murphy. So kind
of a new era in Green Bay changing of the guard. All right, we're sticking
with our chief here. Uh, the Fox six studios is Rob Haswell has a look at
the weather. This is the day we kind of targeted for a while. It was a pretty
good weekend. All in all, we knew that their possibility of storms was out
there for this morning. Yeah, I was so grateful. I had a friend in town and I
was just glad that it wasn't smoky or it wasn't too hot. Milwaukee shined for
you. It sure did. It sure does. Okay, we're waiting for Rob here. He's gonna
be here. It did. She called vamping stretching. You guys are doing a great
job giving you my weekend plans. I get worried about that. It's good. No, you
guys doing a great job. I will take it from here, but I am going to be in a
different location. I'm going to be down here in the office, just kind of
keeping an eye on things. But I appreciate you stalling. It's always
good when you've got a team that can cover for you. It is covered as far as
the low cloud and fog. When we take a live look from the tower cam right now
at across the city. And wow, that fog has been very thick at times this
morning as we switch over to take a look at one of our D. O. T. Cams. It's
gotten a little better actually, but the slinger cam obviously isn't looking
great either. Neither is the North Lake cam. Visibility is down to a mile or
less in some spots. So do watch for that. The advisory has ended, which I'm
happy to report, but we'll be watching now. There isn't much happening in our
neighborhood. There is a little complex of storms, somewhat small, but it's up
there in the northern Wisconsin. We'll see how that tracks. If it starts to
dive a little farther south, that could be our trigger for the midday into the
afternoon. So it bears watching and it also bears watching because there's
just so much going on in the atmosphere for the day today until that cold front
finally clears. All right, let's go look ahead with Sky Vision Plus. We'll show
you tomorrow's weather today. There it goes. And you can see that we're good
to go for the short term, but that potential is still in the atmosphere.
And by this afternoon, this evening, things really start to pop again,
finally kind of settling down through the late evening and overnight tonight
as that cold front clears the area. Now the wind picks up tomorrow from the
northeast. That's going to whip up the waves and give us a beach hazard
statement for Tuesday on through Wednesday morning. Big waves, likely
strong current. So just kind of stay out of the water. Today's numbers. Yeah,
way up into the upper eighties and low nineties and then dropping into the
sixties and seventies overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. That dew point
drop will take some time, but it'll eventually get here and make things feel
a lot better. Look at that. We go from 76 for a dew point down to the low
sixties. I'm gonna need that break. All right. So the question is, will we get
any more storms? First round never really happened. Didn't materialize in
any big way. Second round doesn't look like it's gonna happen on the Fox
weather model either. But the more traditional Sky Vision plus model does
have things starting to pop again in the afternoon and evening before
finally settling down. So again, the key word here is potential with a lot of
heat, a lot of humidity, everything you need to build strong storms. And
that's why we're under an enhanced risk of severe weather for the day today.
Better to be prepared, not have it happen than the other way around Tuesday.
Happy to say that map clears right out. All right. Our Fox six day planner then
does get a little sticky at times today. That's a for sure thing. The fog is
still lingering, which should start to clear. And then the question is, how
many storms, if any, pop later on today? High near 90. We dropped to the low to
mid eighties and even cooler lakeside Tuesday and Wednesday. Much more
comfortable dew points only to get back to 90 on Thursday. Then we drop again
to low eighties Friday and Saturday.

Fox six. Wake up news. Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show.
Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to wake up. So today is Monday, but it's
also National Scotch Day. I was waiting for Carl's got my attention. I do now.
So, hey, we're early last night. Celebrate early. All right. It's gonna
say, I don't know where our third shifters are. I know you're out there,
but it might be something for you to imbibe in. Well, from classic rear
round favorites to seasonal concoctions, building a standout coffee menu takes a
lot of creativity, and the folks at idle coffee roasters know that all too
well. That's where our brian cramp is this morning. He's watching their team
craft their signature cocktails, and I've got to say, cramp their house
plant game is also very strong. I'm impressed. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I mean,
this is just level one. You go up to level two. I mean, they probably have
another 50 plants here. It is a strikingly attractive place. And I have
to say that, you know, with parents as owners, you're gonna probably be in the
industry and you've been. You've been in and out for six years. What is it
about coffee? That is just so much fun to be a part of all this. Well, I grew
up and mine was in coffee since I was a baby. I think longer than I've been
alive. She's been in coffee, so it was always just something that was around
the house. My house always smelled like coffee. That was like what my friends
would tell me growing up. And yeah, I don't know. Then I just kind of jumped
in with my mom at 16. I really like all the sciency aspects of coffee, and it's
a lot more intricate. I think some people would think so. I'm really
interested, you know, and you learn to as you go on. You know, Daniel over
here is taught many people how to how to crack those beverages. She's making
one of the seasonal drinks right now that we're gonna see in a bit, too. You
know, and Nicola said something about the space. It is stunning. Overall,
downstairs, upstairs. I know that you guys and the family put in so much time
to make this exactly the way that you wanted it. But that's how the drinks are
made, too. You know, as we as we saw, you know, making that drink and then
back over here, we have one of the specials that you can find. What is
this? This one? Yes, this is a sunrise tonic. It is in our summer menu. It is
really great because with our espresso, we used Uganda beans primarily. It's a
blend, but it's the bigger part of the blend, and they're very citrusy, very
bright. So what we did was we tried to combine flavors that would mix well
with the espresso. So it's lemon syrup, orange juice and grapefruit seltzer
with espresso, which I think sounds intimidating to a lot of people. But
this drink is fantastic. It just really plays off those flavors in the
espresso. Pretty refreshing, too, for a summer drink. And you're flipping those
over when fall hits as well. So about four times a year, the seasonal drinks
will change out for you guys. You have a standard menu, as you can see here,
too. We open at six o'clock. The crowds kind of different from day to day, but
you guys have seemed to have a solid flow of people from day one back in
October of last year. What do you attribute that to? Um, well, part of it,
I do think is my mom. She's really worked hard over the last 25 years to
build a name for herself in this industry, and a lot of people were
really excited to come see what she's done. But I mean, we have so many people
here who are so passionate about what they do. Um, Daniel, everyone in the
coffee industry in Milwaukee, I think knows her. They've probably all been
trained by her. That's funny you say that, too, because also Mickey back in
roasting, you know, he's been in the industry for the past 27 years. So you
have some depth to the team as well. Yeah. Do you have a favorite drink on
the menu? I will say my favorite drink on the menu at the moment is probably
the salted coconut, which is this one right here. It is really delicious. I
feel like the coconut cream. It's just so good on top of the cold brew. Well,
that one's yours. I'll grab this one. We'll cheers to you guys and coffee
roasters here. 64th and North Avenue. While we're toasting guys open since
October of last year, we can see just a small portion of why so many people
like it. Love it. Come in here daily. Maybe you should to hear more. Wake up
from Fox six. Coming back after the break, guys. That's fancy face, too.
It's huge. Oh, I know. It reminds me of like the black and tan. Yeah, I was
talking about the coffee. You were talking. I'm talking about the
restaurant. You were talking about drinking different kinds of brews. Okay,
we can be alive. The clouds have set in. They're not going anywhere anytime
soon, and there's the chance for severe storms this morning and the rest of the
day. Rob staying on top of it. We're out. Wake up. Fox six. Wake up. News.
Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show. Good morning, everybody. Welcome
back to wake up. It's a real steamer out there on the weather deck while you
can, right? Yeah, I mean, I'm probably not gonna be here very much longer.
It's very sticky. The heat and humidity continue to be an issue today, and
they're the key ingredients to building strong storms. So while we didn't
really see a morning round of severe thunderstorms, we may well see around
later on today still. So let's start off with a live look at some of that low
cloud of that haze hanging out over the city right now. It's 79. Look at that
dew point sitting at 74. Dense fog advisory expired on time at eight a.m.
But there are still pockets of fog out there this morning. Now, here's what
we're keeping an eye on. You see these complexes of storms, small though they
may be, they're starting to drop a little farther to the south. So we'll
wait and see if that can be a bit of a trigger. We'll track that cold front as
well as it drops down. And if that digs into this hot and sticky air, it could
easily get another round of storms going this afternoon and into the
evening hours. But for now, pretty good. The later we go in the day, the more
potential there is for some strong storms. We do have that enhanced risk.
Biggest threat with this will be the strong straight line wind, large hail,
heavy downpours, and there is a tornado threat with that as well. Southwest
wind just keeps feeding us this heat and humidity today will climb up into
the upper eighties near 90 and feel even hotter than that. All right, guys,
I actually have a good traffic update this morning. Yeah, take a look at this
4194 Ryan Road. Cars are moving. We love to see it after a backup that lasted
several hours this morning because of kind of a chain reaction crash
situation. I am pleased to report that all the lanes are back open and cars
are moving nice and smoothly through the Oak Creek area. Um, all morning long
we were reporting just really horrific congestion because because of not just
one but two crashes that were caused by the Ikea or caused near the Ikea.
Excuse me. The Ikea had nothing to do with it. It was not open yet. Um, okay.
The people of Sweden are like, Whoa, catching strays over here. We're a
building. You know, I'm sorry. I meatballs are really good on to our big
story in the morning where things are heating up and not in the meatball
department for the candidates in the race to replace Governor Tony Evers.
Early imposing person verdict voting. Wow. Begins tomorrow. Trying to get our
cars back on the track here. All right. At the same time, Fox six is also
learning about another union that's backing one of the top contenders in
the Democratic race for governor. We know that is a crowded field of
candidates here are Stephanie Quirk is in the newsroom with more on that
stuff. Hey, good morning. Yeah, Fox six is learning that the United Auto
Workers Wisconsin State Council is endorsing Democratic candidate for
governor Mandela Barnes. You A. W. Region four director Brandon Campbell
sent a statement to our Fox six political reporter Jason Calvi. It
reads in part quote Mandela has always been on the side of unions and working
people. He walked the picket line with us and fought with us against plant
closings. Now Barnes tells Fox six he's honored to have the U. A. W. S. Backing
saying that he will fight for working families in Wisconsin. The endorsement
comes as other unions have also already gotten involved in the race for
governor on both sides of the aisle. Now, on the Republican side of things
in the race for governor, Tom Tiffany is backed by the Milwaukee Police
Association as well as the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriff's Association. Aside
from the endorsements, we're also expecting to get a better picture
really of the race for governor with a new Marquette Law School poll to be
released Wednesday. You're looking at the results of the most recent poll and
this was released last week. That said, though, Marquette surveyed voters
before Crowley re entered the race with the backing of Governor Evers and
before Sarah Rodriguez dropped out amid a financial scandal. So you could see
that Rodriguez was in the poll and Crowley was not. Now that poll also
showed 45% of voters are undecided on who to choose among the Democratic
candidates in the race for governor. Again, that new poll is set to be
released this Wednesday. Carl Nicola stuff. As we know, a lot of times
unions have a tendency to throw in their support for candidates specifically
or usually on the Democratic side. Can you talk about some of the other
unions that have gotten involved in this race here for governor? Yeah, to
name a few, the Wisconsin's Labor's District Council as well as the
professional professional firefighters of Wisconsin have backed Crowley. Um,
on the hand, on the other hand, for Francesca Hong, Democratic Socialists
of America, Milwaukee and Madison have backed her. Roy's also has an
endorsement from the Statewide Teachers Union. And there's also some political
figures like Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett backing other candidates. So
for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Milwaukee Mayor, that is Joel Brennan
is who he is endorsing. Okay, step. Thank you. One of the other big
stories in the morning outages for we energies customers as the crews are out
trying to restore power to thousands of people, specifically in Milwaukee
County. And this is a live look at the numbers where still more than 18,000
customers are without power in Milwaukee County. Most of that in the
city of Milwaukee specifically. Now we did reach out to we energies trying to
get some kind of information on what's happening here. They sent us a
statement saying, quote, crews are in the area investigating the cause of
the outages. Once the cause is identified, they will work to restore
power as quickly and safely as possible. But that means A. C. Units and the
like off for a lot of people on the hot morning. Yeah, rough day for it for
sure. All right. A man charged in a fatal hit and run in Oconomowoc is
expected to take a plea deal and learn his sentence later on today. I think we
got video to show. We show you here. Here we go. Prosecutors say Matthew
Brennecke hit 87 year old Al Amy last summer, then took off. Brennecke
allegedly then tried to hide his car under a camouflage tarp in the woods. A
truck driver is facing a list of charges after a series of hit and run
crashes in Wauwatosa. Police say a 911 caller said they were side swiped by
the driver going the wrong way. That truck then crashed into another car,
seriously hurting the other driver. The driver of the truck actually ran away,
but officers later arrested that person. It has been more than three
decades since lawmakers passed the Americans with Disabilities Act of
1990. Our Donovan Long joins us from the Lime Center with the way our
community will honor the impact of that legislation later this morning. Hey,
good morning you two. Yeah, the A. D. A. Was groundbreaking when it became
law. Want to give you a live look real quick over the White House now where
President George H. W. Bush signed the A. D. A. Into law 36 years ago. So
members of Independence first along with the city of Milwaukee, Milwaukee
County and visit Milwaukee will host the celebration to honor the law's rich
history. This event will be today from 10 to 1 at Independence first. It's
located at 5 40 South First Street. So organizers say they will bring together
community leaders, disability advocates and public officials to recognize this
landmark civil rights law. Now we expect to hear from Milwaukee County
Mayor Cavalier Johnson. I'm sorry, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson Fire
Chief Aaron Lipsky and the Milwaukee County Director of Health and Human
Services. Among so many other leaders in our community, there will also be a
resource fair illustrating how different organizations have helped
people with disabilities navigate their community more easily. And Carl and Nick,
what's really cool here is people who head out to celebrate today will have
the chance to experience different technology for people with disabilities
tour a sensory room and be part of solutions that will ultimately help
their fellow neighbor live more comfortably in the city. A landmark
changed the way we live lives here in America. For sure. All right, Donovan,
thank you. Okay, we're gonna go to the west coast now where we are following a
developing story out of Seattle this morning. One person is in custody and
police are still searching for another suspect after a deadly shooting sunday
night at a food festival. We know that at least three people were killed as
several others were hurt here, including a two year old child. I was
about to grab me a boba from the boba stand. I heard about, I'd say close to
12. Um, sounded a little bit like firecrackers at first. People started
getting a shooter shooter and there was like a stampede of people just running,
knocking down a lot of products from the vendors. This was in a park that
surrounds the Space Needle, a really popular festival. Police believe two
people were shooting at each other and the victims were all caught in that
crossfire. After nearly two weeks of fighting, the U. S. Paused attacks on
Iran for a second straight night. The Wall Street Journal reports President
Donald Trump has put off a major escalation of his military campaign to
revive diplomatic efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz. There's also
reportedly been debate over the impact of dwindling munitions stocks for the
U. S. We have a look at where gas prices stand this morning and according
to AAA, the national average is around 4 11 for a regular gallon of gas in
Wisconsin. The statewide average is 3 88. That's up more than 20 cents from a
month ago when we were seeing a decline. Finally, all right, Carl, it's
a big day in Detroit. The Gordie Howe Bridge is slated to open to traffic for
the first time at noon today, bringing a new crossing between the United States
and Canada lawsuits, a trade war and a pandemic delayed construction for a
year. So this is really a big moment for the city of Detroit. The crossing
includes a six lane tollway and a footpath that pedestrians and bikers
can use for free. Look sharp. I think with the pedestrian traffic that we'll
spur a lot of interest. People will want to come over and have that
experience of crossing the bridge. Canada held its own ribbon cutting
friday after pulling out of a joint ceremony with the United States. Last
week, President trump announced a new 50% tariff on certain Canadian goods.
Well, let's call this a misfire at a postgame fireworks show at a minor
league baseball park in Virginia. A malfunction caused the fireworks to
launch around the stadium, which sent fans they're running for cover. You
hear some laughs in some of the videos. So hopefully the people were still able
to take this in stride. No one was seriously hurt. The team says from now
on, fireworks will be lit off site. A concept. I can imagine if you're a fan
in those stands, you're sitting there like, oh wow. And then you're thinking,
is that supposed to happen? That seems a little too close for comfort there.
A little too much smoke. It is time to get you set up for Fox six. Wake up at
nine. Yeah, as we energy falcons are practically celebrities around here,
especially this year because they're named after our very own. But it wasn't
always that way. So we're gonna go introduce you to the man behind the
falcon conservation effort program. What a journey that's been. Actor Tom
Holland is quite busy right now, promoting not one but two huge summer
blockbusters. He gives us a peek behind the curtain about what he really
thinks on press tours. Oh, the internal dialogue. But before all that, Brian
cramp is getting a good cup of coffee this morning.
Nicola, you talked about the plants downstairs. I'm showing you the plants
upstairs. This is the second level here in Wauwatosa. Idle coffee roasters.
Look at this space. Absolutely stunning. They're helping the community as well.
Ways that you can get on board with idle coffee roasters to help your
nonprofits coming up next on Fox six. Wake up. Good morning, everybody. Taking
a live look here at M. K. E. Kind of a tough conditions today. I'm grateful
that all of the fog that's going on right now wasn't here for the air show
over the weekend. Even yesterday, though, it's pretty cloudy outside.
Yeah, sunday show saturday a little clear. I got a little smoky to the
upper levels for as well. So today is still a little bit of fog out there
with the advisories over and we didn't get hit with that first round of
severe storms. So we'll take that as a win. I know we need the rain. That's
not how we want it. We don't want a month's worth of rain in a day. Doesn't
mean we're out from under the threat, though. Let's start off with the fog.
You're still a little bit out there. The advisory has ended, but obviously
there's still some pockets where it's a little thicker, particularly in south
central and southeastern Wisconsin. Right now, the worst is up around, uh,
well, actually, it's walkish on now was juno, but now it's bumped up to a mile
and a quarter. But either way, you are still seeing some areas where it is a
bit of a challenge now. Also watching what's going on here to our north. Yes,
this morning never really materialized. All the ingredients were there for the
storms to fire up. Just didn't get the trigger we needed, and we're okay with
that. We don't want to cheer on severe weather. Now, as we zoom in, though,
you'll notice little complex just north of Rhinelander right now. Not severe at
the moment, but it's impressive, and we're going to continue to watch it
because if you notice in the last little while here, it's been a little
bit more of a southerly drift. This was almost all southeast and now drifting a
little further south. So as that drifts down, we may start to see some triggers
pop up in our area for a little later on this afternoon, maybe even into the
early evening. We've got all the heat and humidity out there to feed this. We
just need that trigger to get it to go. And that cold front is it drops down
might be part of that as well. Once we're behind it, though, it's going to
feel so much better. Let's go check it out on Sky Vision Plus. Now, short term
here, southwest wind, no present trigger. But as we get into the afternoon and
evening, things could start to fire up, and all it takes is a couple of these
to get to severe criteria for it to be a problem. Obviously, that looks to be
the case even on into the 89 o'clock hour, and then we should start to settle
down, and it won't be everywhere. It might be somewhat more isolated than we
expected, but those storms could be very strong, possibly severe. Once the
cold front clears, we're into some cooler, far less humid air, but a strong
northeast wind kicks in throughout the day to whip up the waves and create a
beach hazard statement. Now, this starts for Tuesday and runs right
through until Wednesday at 10 a.m. So just kind of stay out of Lake Michigan
temperatures today, way up into the nineties. Then we'll drop back down into
the sixties overnight tonight. That cold front is going to have an
impressive impact on our area, and it will eventually drop the dew points as
well. You see the very sticky numbers most of the day, even into the evening,
but overnight into tomorrow, we'll get down into some low sixties. Just going
to feel much more comfortable by comparison. All right, so the potential
right versus the actual. Obviously, we had the potential without actually
achieving anything this morning. Fox weather models still doesn't have much
going on for this afternoon this evening, so it is possible certain
model runs really don't have anything materializing. And again, given how
strong these storms could become, that's probably fine. We'd like a nice,
gentle rain, please. But that doesn't seem to be on the menu for the day
today. The more traditional Sky Vision plus model does have things popping up
this afternoon and this evening, and so we will still be watching for strong
to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma does have us under
that enhanced risk. That's a three out of five in the threat scale, and that
is a significant concern. Because if things do pop strong, straight line
wind gusts in excess of 70 miles an hour can cause some extensive damage,
and that's the main threat with this large hail. Also a concern. Heavy rain
also a concern with all this moisture. Just looking for a place to go. And yes,
there is a tornado threat with this as well. So we will be watching very
closely. Then we get to clear the slate as we look ahead to our Tuesday. All
right, our Fox six day planner looking at 90 today with that second round of
storms ending up being the only round of storms. But we'll still be watching
later on today. Then mid eighties, but low eighties lakeside lower dew points.
Very comfy days Tuesday, Wednesday, back to 90 Thursday, back to low eighties
Friday, Saturday, up and down and up we go. Okay, his competitive spirit always
kept him reaching for the crown, and in doing so, he helped his team's break
school records in multiple sports all while living up to a speedy nickname.
That's why this kid is our Fox six high school hot shot.
Carol McCullough medics. I went to my high school and I'm a multi sport
athlete. Okay, so at one point I played seven sports, but going into high
school, I ended up playing five sports. I was on rushing for football. I was
on rushing for baseball, track, wrestling, and I think that's it.
Nickname is Turbo. I got it when I was four years old. So my brother is
playing football, and after the game, somehow the ball came in my hands. So
I was running around and nobody catch me. So the coach is like, I'm gonna
name you Turbo because nobody could catch you. Turbo takes this one. He had
a touch. I mean, in, like, freshman year, I was small. I was 4 11 96 pounds
going to junior year. I was high one forties and I got tall. It's like 56 at
that time. Senior year. I still have something to prove. First game on a new
turf field. They had, like, a mesh routes that came through in the
quarterback for my way. So I jumped it and I have the opportunity to score a
pick six and truly be the first touchdown on a new turf field.
This track season, we made to stay for the four by one, and we ended up being
state running ups. We start off the season running 43 9. They have that
43 7, then 43 1 42 9. The estate, the prelims day, we ran 42 2. Then final day
we got second running 42 3.
My senior year, I remember exact moment. I have my head down, eyes closed. When
they called my name, it was really cool knowing that the last dance of my high
school career I won. That's that's really cool. I actually have pictures
and crowns and my prom court.
My name is Jekyll McCullum Maddox. I'm a senior graduate. I'm wrong with the
high school, and I'm a three sport team captain on this week's Fox six high
school hot shot
to
Fox six. Wake up news Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show.
Let's look outside. Nice to see the skyline there and nice to get a little
bit of relief that we weren't necessarily expecting when it comes to
severe storms this morning. The possibility kind of broke our way in
one side of things, but we'll let Stephanie Barkello explain that and
what could still be coming in the six day forecast starting at nine o'clock.
Well, great coffee isn't just for the cafe. It can also power your office,
your workplace, help local organizations raise money as well.
Brian Cramp is that idle coffee roasters in Wauwatosa with details on
their wholesale lineup, the community fundraising they do. And let me just
say this space is huge and beautiful. Looks amazing inside. Yeah, I mean,
really is Carl to it. Once we got to the second level up here, I was just
just in awe of how to set up. I mean, there's plenty of space for people to
sit down. It's a communal space. You know, it's decked out. You have
beautiful plants, beautiful furniture. And then, of course, there's the coffee,
which keeps people coming back for more. But it's not just here. You want your
reach, Dave, to be out in the community as well in which you're doing
successfully. How so? Well, we have a great coffee fundraising program where
we partner with area organizations, nonprofit sports teams could be club
could be wrecked, could be high school, middle school, grade schools, you name
it. And when they've got a capital project coming up or a trip to Europe
or Canada or even within the United States, how can we, you know, help raise
some money to pay for that project? I gotta I gotta be honest. Sometimes
pizzas are a little bit much. You know, I want to. I want a good bag of coffee
that's locally produced as well, too. And you guys do exactly that. I mean,
you guys source the beans from all over the world. You guys roast the beans
here. You bag the beans. Now we can get the beans either a whole or ground.
Yes. So we've got a few examples of bags that we sell. Yes. So we have our
fundraising sell sheet that the kids hit the streets with. That describes has
a few different coffees. We've got our espresso blend, our dark roast, which
is glow in the dark are providing. We've got something for everyone. We
even carry a decaf and then the kids track their sales on the selling sheet.
And so for every bag of coffee that they sell, they keep a very large
percentage of the profits to then pay for their trips. And that's the part
right there that you're reaching. So this this is for you said kids going
out there, but also nonprofits, nonprofits as well. Yep. So it could be
any faith based organization. It could be, you know, any, you know, shelter or
anything like that. I got a question for you. How can I get this coffee at
Fox six? Well, I could deliver it to you too. We are in the process. I'm just
teasing it a little bit. Uh, idle the office. So another blend that we would
make specifically that we're going to make specifically for sort of like the
crowd pleaser at the office. And so, you know, we have wholesale clients that go
online in order. They also email text me direct and we roasted up to order. We
roast on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Not sure if you mentioned
that before. I'm sure that there's probably a way for you guys to make a
wake up blend, right? I like that private label to come up with some
great ideas. Your team is phenomenal. Just seeing them work together is
amazing and I can't wait to actually try some of the coffee, which we're
gonna be doing in a little bit. What makes this special for you as one of
the founders? It's two families coming together. It is. Um, it really gives me
goosebumps just talking about like using a great place like idle to bring
people together and build community and like elevate coffee in a way that makes
it accessible in the coffee education. And so, you know, having spent a lot of
time in Wauwatosa, it's like just even seeing some of these bags of coffee at
grocery stores to is very surreal. Awesome. Good for you guys too. And it's
not done in a pretentious way at all, which I definitely appreciate it. We
have more from idle coffee roasters this morning here. Fox six wake up guys. I
don't know which one I'm gonna go for, but I'm gonna grab one on. Then we're
gonna head on back to the station. But this is a place if you're just looking
for something to drink or if you're looking for something like space to
hang out, you can do that as well. You're in Wauwatosa. Congrats again,
sounds like coffee's on cramp here at the station today. Appreciate it.
