I've been on the sidelines this weekend and I've seen it up close and personal.
I don't know what is going on here, but the Marlins have now lost, going into Sunday,
11 games in a row. This is a lot. Losing those games to Houston. I mean, look at this, Tom.
5-3, 5-2, 4-2. Now, yesterday got bad late, but I can't figure this out. Tom, I'm at the games.
Every game's close. It's not like they're getting hammered. Remember when the A's lost 9 in a row
or 10 in a row? They were losing like 100-2 in every game. And you're like, yeah, that makes
sense. They fired the pitching coach. The Marlins were 26-8. I am just perplexed here a little bit.
Now, obviously, the results are what they are and they moved under 500 and they're probably,
let's be honest, out of the mix to capture the East in the National League. They're so
far behind Atlanta now. And the wild card, they would have to go on this wild run here
just to stay in it at this point. So I don't know if you're seeing anything different than me,
but I'm literally on the sidelines during the games and I'm scratching my head. I'm like,
how did this happen? How did they go from so good to scuffling so much?
You know, a part of me wants to say that, you know, losing streak like this becomes,
like, it takes on a life of its own, where they were super hot right before the all-star break.
Then they get swept by the Guardians leading into the all-star break. And then you come out of it
and then you haven't won. And when you look back at it, they haven't won since July 9th.
So because of the all-star break, I think it seems so long ago and it seems like they've
been losing for so long that it takes on a life of its own. And the same thing can be said about
the Red Sox winning streak. It's like, how are we going to beat this team that's won 12 in a row?
It's like, well, how do we lose to a team that's won this or lost this many in a row, I should say.
But to your point, they're not out of these games. It's not like they're getting blown
out. So if they're losing by a run, maybe two runs, okay, maybe it's just a bloop and a blast
that puts the opposing team ahead or whatever it is. I see this as, I don't want to say a blip in
the radar because we are approaching August, but a five-game win streak could turn things
around just because the NL wildcard is completely up for grabs right now.
