Porcelain is a great invention of China, first appeared in the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BC) and continued to mature and thrive in the Tang and Song dynasties. The Southern Song Guan Kiln or guanyao in Chinese, established by the imperial court, was a special kiln to produce porcelain for both daily use and sacrifice. The discovery of the Southern Song Guan Kiln was legendary. From the 1920s, people had been in quest for kiln sites and in 1992 the Southern Song Dynasty Guan Kiln Museum was opened in Hangzhou.
