Well, hey guys.
It is an exciting week because the goal is to get this entryway put back together.
This morning, Mike ended up grouting all of the new tile.
If you missed that, go watch last week's video because he installed this beautiful tile and
I shared it with you.
So he just did the grout this morning.
I have some footage that I took.
I'll show it to you now.
Basically, we just used sanded grout with quarter inch grout lines and we chose the
color bone.
Right now, it's looking a little bit dark but once it dries, it gets a little bit lighter.
Of course, once you're finished with all the grout, then you have to go back and kind of
wash the haze off of all the tile and that's what I've been doing all morning long.
Mike started it and then he had to leave so I finished that.
The process is always time consuming but of course, it's always worth it in the end.
So now that we have the grout finished, Mike is just working on a few things.
So he wants to bring this beam back into the entryway that we had in there.
Still love that.
Then we have to reattach all the trim in the entry that he had to pull off in order to
put the new tile in and we're also just trying to decide what to do with this newel post.
We're just kind of playing around with that today.
I have to shorten the chain on this lantern.
There's just some different things that we need to do to get this entryway completed.
And I always like to say that no space is ever truly completed, right?
I'm always tweaking spaces in my home.
I'm always playing around with decor, switching things up, especially as homemakers.
This is our dwelling place.
This is our haven and so oftentimes, it's nice to switch up the scenery and change out
your artwork and move things around, but I'm mainly referring to the new color and
the new tile and just getting all of it put back together after those two large projects.
Of course, we installed all the beautiful wood on the ceiling as well.
So anyways, I'm excited to get all of my accessories back into the entryway.
That is the goal for this week and hopefully I'll have a finished entry space to share
with you.
Alright friends, well I want to take a moment to share another fun Halara haul with you
guys today.
So I've shared Halara with you guys before.
They're the sponsor of today's video and they've graciously gifted me a lot of fun items that
I can't wait to share with you, but of course, all of these opinions are my own.
If you're not familiar with Halara, let me tell you a little bit about them.
So Halara designs are community driven.
They're based on your input, which I think is really cool.
So a lot of their designs are completely centered around our suggestions and I think that that
is really neat.
Their activewear is also designed to be functional and versatile in order to meet our real life
needs.
So that's one of the things I really love about Halara is that a lot of their items
can be dressed up or they can be worn more casually.
So let me share a few options with you real quick that I picked out.
These are the Ribbed Knit High Waisted Tummy Control Drawstring Wide Leg Sweatpants.
I just love the tummy control.
They come up really high.
I love a drawstring.
So this is just one of more of the activewear pieces I picked out, but you could totally
throw a jean jacket on with this and you could kind of dress them up a little bit too.
I got these amazing high waisted drawstring ruched sort of tapered athletic pants.
They are so stretchy and comfortable, perfect for my morning walks and I love just throwing
these on to go to a soccer game.
I really love them.
Okay, these pants are very similar.
They are a mid-rise.
They're actually a golf pant.
Quick dry, they've got the curved hem, which I think is really cute.
I just love how versatile all of Halara's clothes are.
Okay, one of my favorites are these high waisted Cool Touch Yoga Bermuda shorts.
Look how high waisted.
They're so soft.
Again, the pockets are amazing.
I also picked out a few tops that I want to show you too.
So I grabbed this V-neck striped tee and you guys, the fabric is so breathable and stretchy
and soft.
That's one thing that Halara really tries to focus on is their fabric technology.
So the fabric of these items has been carefully selected for breathability, for softness both
inside and out.
Let me show you some of the cute jeans that I picked out.
This is their cute little button down V-neck, which I love, but paired with these cute pants,
they are so comfortable.
So the pants that I'm wearing are the Halara Flex high waisted zipper pockets straight
leg casual jeans.
I love the fact that they have pockets, they're high waisted.
I'm wearing a medium.
I have this top that they send with the cute buttons just kind of tucked in here.
So cute.
This is their semi sheer notched short sleeve casual t-shirt.
Very breathable.
So comfortable.
So I have this shirt paired with the asymmetric Halara Flex baggy wide leg jeans.
I love these jeans just as much.
They are so comfortable.
They are so stretchy and it truly does not feel like you are wearing a pair of jeans.
I'm just so pleased with all of these items.
Guys, you can use my super code PINE10 to get 10% off of orders of $120 or 12% off of
orders of $150.
So again, that's super code PINE10.
Now that's only for the U.S. site.
So that's PINE10 to get 10% off $120 orders or 12% off of $150 orders in the U.S. only.
Or you can use my regular code PINE to get 20% off all sites on all regular priced items.
Guys, if you haven't placed a Halara order yet, check out my link down in the description
box below and look at their website.
I love the fact that they have so many different color options available.
They also have so many sizes, which I really appreciate.
From extra small through 4X.
They provide top quality items at a fair price.
There is a style for everyone on there.
And all of this information will be down in the description box for you below.
I just absolutely love all of these items that they sent and I can't wait to use them
and wear them all summer long.
Okay, so for a long time I have been torn on the railings and if I should get a wood
railing for right here, if I should just paint this railing blue.
Right now I'm just going to paint it because we don't have a wood railing to replace it
at the moment.
I for sure need to do something about these spindles.
First of all, they're not very secure from just many years of my boys tugging and pulling
on them.
I don't know if I like the white, if I want them to be blue, or if we want to have some
sort of wood element.
I don't know.
I'm just like loving the colors, loving the ceiling, loving the tile, but this stairway
situation just has me a little bit back and forth, back and forth.
So I'm tired of looking at this random beige railing, so I'm just going to get this painted
the same color as the walls for now.
We did get some new hardware.
I think it's like an antique brass bracket rather than this black one that you see here.
But I figured it would be easier to paint this while it's up on the wall rather than
trying to paint it, you know, outside on the ground.
So just as I was painting this railing, Mike brought the beam back in.
He's going to reinstall that while I continue to paint over here.
Look at the original trim work.
All the different colors that our trim was at one point.
This sort of, I don't know if it's going to focus for you, light green and then dark green.
Someone really loved green.
This was cut to lay right over top of that.
Oh wow.
Because somebody didn't want to miter it.
They didn't want to miter it, so they just kind of cut a little roundage.
Hilarious.
But it works.
You could always label your trim, but with such a small space, we didn't really feel
the need to.
Okay, so I came across this entryway and you can see it's similar with the blue, pretty
blue-gray color.
I don't know if you can see, I can't quite zoom in, but the spindles there gave me this
idea.
Let me show you.
I wanted to do something similar to this, so we are kind of trying to create a similar
template out of some scrap wood and we're going to see what we can come up with here.
I see this a lot in older entryways, especially over in Europe, so we're going to play around
with it and see what we can do.
This is how I do designs with like a million lines and my husband is wanting exact measurements.
Somewhat.
I'm trying my best.
I thought it would be cool to incorporate some sort of like...
I'm just trying to get them to match on both sides.
We're just going to cut one out, I think, and play with it and see what it looks like.
Okay, so this is just like a rough design.
Super rough.
It has to be sanded.
It's kind of like straight on the side there.
The circles aren't even right.
Oh, yeah.
Oops.
Here, go.
There's the heart.
That's okay.
That's what I get for not really giving you like...
Straight lines.
Yeah.
I can't help.
Oh, wow.
That kind of looks cool, babe.
I kind of like that.
Let me hold it up for you.
I'm going to go ahead and caulk all of this trim.
I feel like I just painted all this trim.
We ended up just putting a few new pieces in over here rather than using the old ones.
Mike is outside sort of tweaking and playing around with the spindle.
Is that what you would call them?
Idea.
So, we'll see how that turns out.
Now, another thing that you might see behind me here is this.
I like this peg rack here, but I have some other ideas.
I'm just not like 100% in love with it.
So, I saw some other ideas that I might have Mike try to recreate.
Well, hey friends.
It's another day here.
Now.
And I have been working on painting all of the trim.
This is just an example of a spindle that Mike cut out.
We're still trying to decide on it.
I'm not sure what I think.
I know for sure that I want to mess with these hooks.
They're a little too orange for me.
So, I want to either put some dark wax on them or change it out completely.
So, I've decided on that, but I don't know.
I think I need to see the other ones to decide on these spindles.
But, for now, I'm just going to keep painting the trim and doing what I know needs to get done.
In the meantime, I'll try to decide on some of these other features in the entryway.
Okay, so while I wait for the first coat of trim to dry, I want to figure out what to do with these hooks.
We for sure love having hooks under the window.
Plus, with the numbers that were there before, there are holes in the beadboard.
So, either way, I want to have something hanging there.
I was torn.
Let me show you this hook rack that my mom grabbed for me.
Hold on a second.
So, I don't quite have a place for this yet, but it's this beautiful gray-blue chippy coat rack.
It's just far too long for this space.
But, I love the color in here.
I don't want to cut this down.
It's so cool.
I think maybe we could use it up whenever we do our future bathroom renovation.
It would be perfect for towels up there or something.
But, I could create a similar look to this using paint I already have.
Before I do that, though, I'm just going to try to use my handy-dandy dark wax.
This is the Annie Sloan.
I'm almost out of it.
Annie Sloan soft wax in dark.
And I'm just going to go over these hooks and see if I can't get them to maybe match
the tones that you see on the stairs, on the beam.
I know I'm a little bit blown out here on the ceiling.
These hooks just feel a little bit too light.
So, let me see what I can do to match the rest of the wood.
Somehow I feel like that made it even more orange.
Something about the tone of that wood is just not vibing for me.
I'm half-tempted to just have Mike make a shelf out of some of the barn wood in our garage.
I don't feel like wood tones always have to match.
I just feel like they have to be in the same family, I guess.
I don't know.
I'm overthinking it, I'm sure.
Like usual.
Okay, I just mixed some blue and gray paint colors together and I feel like this is a mistake.
I don't know.
I can always sand off the paint, right?
Oh, I don't know.
I don't know what to do.
Okay, scratching that.
I don't like that paint color.
I don't know what to do.
Okay, so Mike just sanded the entire thing.
And I was asking him if he thought we, like, took out too much character.
And he was like, oh, Andrea.
But I think I like the tone, the color of it better.
All right, enough of this.
I gotta move on.
All right, guys.
Well, we just finished eating dinner.
And Mike took the boys to soccer practice.
And right before dinner, he finished the third spindle.
These were kind of time consuming, I'm not gonna lie.
I feel like I really love them.
They just add this, like, whimsy and character to the stair railing.
Um, we're just about ready for decorations.
I ordered a brass outlet cover and switch plate.
Not 100% sure on the switch plate.
Maybe that'll be too busy over there.
Maybe I wanna stick with white.
And also a brass doorknob for this closet door.
Just to bring in another, like, metal element.
I'll probably play with it over the next few days.
I'm gonna bring in some decor, though.
Just to get a feel for the space with these spindles.
And see how I'm liking it or if it's feeling too busy.
So, let me just pull a few things in.
This is my all-time favorite thrift find.
$15 for this basket.
I get asked about it all the time.
Right now it's filled with some random fishing line.
And sticks.
Pocket knife.
I'm a boy mom.
Okay, so as I'm bringing things into this space,
it's interesting, you know,
the floor before was this dark slate.
And it sort of grounded the space.
But I'm bringing in a lot of these, like,
woven elements.
Which I absolutely love.
But it's so funny how all of that worked so well
before with the dark floors.
And now I'm like, I need to ground the space somehow.
So I don't know if I need to look for, like,
a darker stool.
Or maybe even just a simple pair of
black rain boots or something.
I don't know.
But I'll be playing with this space a little bit
over the next few days.
I will say, I think I love these spindles.
Some artwork on the walls.
I've got to play with that.
So I might just
go ahead and paint the other sides of these.
They're still raw wood.
And work on that for tonight.
And then continue to play with decorations
over the next few days.
I have a few pieces of artwork
that I do want to share with you
that I'm thinking about bringing into this space.
I showed this one to you in last week's video.
It's this precious painting
I recently got in an antique store
with this brass frame.
Also, this old,
old antique oil painting.
There's no frame.
It's just been stretched. It's an old canvas.
But I absolutely love it.
So, maybe
a few of these.
I think I really love the way the spindles look
with all of the decor.
So I'm going to move forward with those.
Tell my husband we're good on them
so he can nail them into place.
Faces merge and change
But your face
remains the same
The swallows will be
eaten by dogs
Okay guys, I have to
let this side dry and then
flip these and do another coat.
The trees will bloom and ice will melt
We'll always remember
A significant life
Just what
it was needed
Cleaved at the blackest night
Poised to be
just as dead
Well friends, I think
we finally have a finished
entryway.
And I am so pleased with
the results. So this past weekend
we just did a bunch of
little finishing touches. I just want to
bring you guys back to where we started.
I think it was January or
February. I was craving
more color in my home.
And after giving our
downstairs bathroom a makeover last
summer and seeing that beautiful
blue green on the walls and just
that pop of color and the
rustic beams on the ceiling, I was craving
more of that throughout my home and so
I decided to start
here in my entryway and I
took you guys with me as I chose
different blues to try
on the walls and finally settled on this
beautiful color called Coastal
Jetty. Now it's lightened by
50% in my entry but I ended
up painting the whole living room in this
color. More on that
later on.
But anyways, we decided
to bring the color just halfway up the
wall, paint all the trim in that color
and then of course
we started on the ceiling
and we decided to cover the entire
ceiling with these beautiful tongue
and groove wood planks that we found
at an antique shop very similar
to what we did in the bathroom.
Well of course life happens
and Mike's mom
unexpectedly passed away in
February which was just
absolutely heartbreaking
completely out of the blue
and things were sort of put on
pause for a while.
Recently we decided to come back to the
entry and work on the floors
because the slate, while
beautiful, was just a
little dark for my liking
I wanted something a little brighter and
lighter and something that felt a little bit
more cottagey. So I ended up finding
this really beautiful porcelain
tile that looks similar
to a natural stone. It's got all this
texture and all of this
different color throughout each
individual tile and I just
really loved it and decided to take
a risk and order it and we ended up
really liking it here
in the space. After all of the
tile work was completed
we had some painting that we
had to finish up and then it was
time to bring in the fun stuff.
So I wanted to bring in some texture
and some warmth and I feel
like I really was able to achieve that
by just bringing in my classic
sun hats at springtime
a straw bag, a
little bench that I recently found at an
antique shop that's very primitive
and then of course a watering can
just reminds me of springtime
and so I have that sitting here as
well. I love
this little copper
candle holder that I found at an
antique shop for just $6
I was searching through
so many fixtures online
and of course the Lord just provided the perfect
one and I think it's
so cute here. Hung
some artwork along with you guys
this antique oil painting over
on this side sort of balances out
the heavy beam on this side
and this darling little cow painting
that I also found at
an antique store. Of course
instead of hanging a wreath on my closet
door I love to hang
a basket filled with blooms and this one
was thrifted for just $5
and then it was all the little
details. I wanted to bring in another
metal element so we've got
sort of this black
of the lantern on the
ceiling. We have copper over
on the candle holder and I was
really craving some soft brass
and so I found these brass
outlet covers online
I can link them for you. We also switched
out the hardware on the railing
to brass
and we changed out the
little door handle to brass and I
love the way the brass looks
against this beautiful blue
color. Of course we also
switched out the spindles on the stairs
to sort of give this space a more cottage-y
look and something about
them really reminds me of
Germany. I feel like I saw
very similar features in some of the
buildings we visited with these spindles
that Mike created so overall
we are just so happy
with the way this space came together
I recently was at an
antique store and found this
cute little vintage
black umbrella that
I thought was really sweet and so I
just have that sort of leaning here
near the entryway
but we are very
pleased with the way this space came together
and I'm so glad I got to take you guys
along with me and really
it's just giving me even more
craving for color throughout my
home. I love the color that I've
added in the living room on this wall
but I'm really craving it on the fireplace
wall and I would love to do
more wood in here somehow
and just more of that beautiful
blue so I'm excited about
some ideas that I have floating
around in my head and of course I'll take
you guys with me but
I love the way this
entryway came together and
let me know what you guys think about
it in the comments below
if you are new to my channel I would love for
you to hit that subscribe button
and I will see you guys next time
bye bye
