Hello, welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson.
That's our Jets beat writer, Ryan Costell.
And that's my guy, Frankie Vittorini from U Stadium.
Today is Thursday, October 22nd, Week 7, the Jets vs. Dolphins.
We're here to preview this matchup.
There's a lot to discuss going into this game.
And before we get to any of it, as always,
Kaz is at the Jets facility. How's it going today, buddy?
Nice. Nice day. Nice day for practice.
It should be a nice day for football,
finally, at MetLife Stadium, right?
Sounds like it. Yeah, no rain in the forecast.
no rain in the forecast that would
be a nice refreshing thing for jets fans to see frankie
how you feeling today buddy feeling good man
feeling good there's uh there's a lot of blood
in those streets right i was telling you
those social media streets be careful there there's
there's a potential civil war about uh about to happen in jets land
so there's a lot of stuff going
on out there it's tough i was just talking about it with
mark hale our sports editor over here it's it's tough
to do content about the jets uh and be in
positive spin in terms of where this team is going just
because of what we've seen so far
uh so let's get a vibe check on this team cause what
is the vibe of this team coming off a tough
loss against Patriots where they were competitive
but uh it ultimately was not a a positive I feel
like in terms of how Jets fans
and you guys in the media viewed that team coming out of that loss
yeah I think the vibes are good you know I don't sense
that they're down or anything like that I
think uh you know the jets know there's things they have to correct
and fix uh but they also
feel like they're doing some good things
and you know i know i'm not saying this is players or
necessarily anything but like there's people
in the jets building i feel like the negatives right
now have been accentuated over the positives
and i understand why they feel that way um but yeah i
don't think the players are being affected
by the negativity right now that's understandable uh from
from the people in the building
but also at the same time this is something we had just talked
about outside here is is that this team just unfortunately continues
to do historic things
and historic rates and things that you like kind
of like raise your eyebrows and your eyes open
and go wow it's that bad and you're
also talking about the team that has the longest playoff drought
in all four major professional sports
so it's tough to spin a lot of these things positive
when this team is currently in the way it
is and i know Frank you probably feel the same way i do
about this team it's like you we try to i try
to at least be level-headed about all these things
but it's tough with this head coach
and this team right now yeah man i mean listen when you look at
everything coming out of this last week's game you
just start thinking about all the negative stuff
you start thinking about the fact that we haven't beat
a divisional opponent yet you start thinking
about the hundred to six differential you know
with two minutes left in the first and you know
in the first half of football it's like what
am i looking forward to besides these draft picks
and i'm just sick of trying to hope
and pray for first rounders to magically come up with a
quarterback and an offense like i'm just we've
been doing this for so long man it seems like
forever i don't i don't remember
when the jets were good i mean i'm not i'm pretty old i'm not
that young so like i remember the Rex days a bit
but like do we that felt like a that's like two
lifetimes ago at this point it's like i i don't know what
this light at the end of the tunnel
looks like when you do reach the light if you reach
the light like what is it what does it
look like who who's the coach
who's the quarterback again it's just too much hope man and and i hate
trying to bring the vibes down speaking
of vibe checks it's like i'm bringing them down instantly
but i don't know where to go from here i guess all i could say
is try to win try to put together
a good offense like what do you want me
to tell you there's yeah what do you want me to like
it's like a miracle workers out there i don't know
because you get you get what i'm coming
before you go i think i think the problem
is micro versus macro right yes and you guys know
and if we sat in August and talked you knew
this season was not going to be a playoff season maybe
there was some shred of hope
of everything everything goes this way and this happens
and this happens and this happens
but realistically you guys are realists and you you thought it was
probably going to be six to eight wins right
that range five to eight wins that range that's what they
look like right but the but the reality the micro
is you get into the season and this happens every
year and the reality hits
and it's like oh my god they can't score two minutes they can't convert
fourth and one uh they're this guy i've never heard
of on the patriots is running up the gun
i've got to run up the game like this stuff happens
and you react to it week to week and i
get it but i think you just kind of have to take a deep breath
and go okay in the long run where
they are and i understand the weird thing about
this year is and i've written this is like
everything in the organization feels like it's about 2027 except
for one guy yeah and it's like
you have to figure out the coach
and it's hard those two things are kind of incongruous right
like it's it's hard to say all right yeah i expected them to go six
and eleven let's bring
Aaron Glenn back because they went 6-11.
I get that part of it. That's tough.
Do you think big picture?
We talked about this
four-game stretch. They're 1-1
in the four-game stretch, starting with the Browns game.
They've got to win three of these four.
Now they've got to beat the Dolphins and the
Raiders and get you to November.
You still have a season
on Election Day.
That's a new holiday I'll throw out there.
Instead of Halloween, let's go for Election Day.
Yeah, go for Election Day.
that's a little bit further that's a little bit further
because halloween's the day before the
raiders game so let's see if we
if we're still talking about them on election day and they're
four and four and you're like okay
this is this is but yeah i think it's tough um you know i
remember the one that struck me was 2019
and they had Luke Falk at quarterback remember when Sam got
Darnold and Simeon got hurt and they were playing the Patriots
and the Eagles who were like two
really really really good teams i mean i'm smacked
and people were mad like jets fans were like going
crazy and i'm it was kind of like well if you had
to bet your mortgage you would have bet on those
other teams to beat them like why are you
so crazy about this but it's just that's how fandom is is
even though you know the reality
of the situation you still want them to win every sunday and get
frustrated when they don't
and i think you highlighted that the exact point we should
be talking about where they're going to be facing
a dolphins team that's 0-5 cause and and consider
You're probably the worst team in the NFL.
Yeah.
And look, I know you say, Ryan, every week is must-win.
You know, there's not really a must-win.
I don't say that, Ryan.
I usually say World War II is a must-win, right?
I'm the one that says every week's a must-win.
Yeah, that's true.
But I'll leave you on this one.
Monday morning will be a hellscape
in the Jets world on Twitter and on radio
and with us and the print and wherever you go.
it'll be bad if they lose Sunday they've got to win
this game the guy there's no excuses and this
is this is Aaron Glenn 0-7 in the AFC East like we talked about
this is his chance to finally get
that win in the AFC East yeah
and he's getting some players back cause it looks like from the
injury report we saw Brees Hall was out
in the practice field today yeah Mitchell and Dylan
Parham returned talk to us
Are these guys all expected, you would think, to return this week
against the Dolphins? Well, I want
to see what they say about Brees tomorrow but he looked good guys
He was doing positional drills.
I saw him.
They were doing pitches to him.
He was running.
He looked like he was running full speed.
Now, when we were coming off the field,
the media is allowed to watch the first 30 minutes or so in the season.
He was going to the rehab area.
So I don't think he's doing team drills today.
So my guess, if I had to guess, I think he'll probably play Sunday.
I think it'll probably be maybe a reduced role,
which also makes sense with how Braylon Allen's been playing.
They can do that.
I think A.D. Mitchell will play.
He looks good to go.
Dylan Parham looks good to go.
so they will be healthier for sure, um, and that will help
the cause, I mean the flip side, Ryan, of
like everyone's saying, 'Oh god, this is Aaron Glenn's chance'
when I did an interview in Miami with my
Miami station yesterday
and what do you think they're saying in Miami? They don't think my
the Dolphins are gonna go 0 and 17, they know they stink
but they're not, so they're looking
at their schedule and going, 'Okay, where's the win? Oh, look at the Jets'
so you know there's, there's
pressure on the Dolphins to win this game
um at least one of the two games against the Jets so
that they don't go 0 and 17, and that's understandable
and Frankie, for you look, they're getting healthy
the offense is getting a lot of key pieces back, you would expect
the Jets to be able to have a
much more efficient offense this week correct I mean you would think
so man I just again and
Frank Reich doesn't really know what he wants
to do with this offense and I don't even think
Geno Smith really knows what he wants
to do at quarterback with this offense too I feel like
Geno is holding on to the ball a little too long.
They want to go to Garrett, but he's bracketed.
Do you want to force it in?
I think Gino can overthink a bit.
I actually think he's always played like this.
I think he's more of a patient, more meticulous style of quarterback,
more than people thought earlier
in the year where you're getting some gunslinger.
I don't think Gino's that kind of quarterback.
I don't think he ever actually was.
It's easy to do that stuff when you have JSN and DK Metcalf
and what they had in Seattle for those couple years.
So kind of put that in a different boat, though,
in terms of what you expected with Geno,
in terms of the reality of Geno.
So I just think with this offense, guys,
I think it comes down to the running game.
I just think if they can get Braylon going,
then I think it opens things up.
But again, are you going to stick with the run?
That's another thing.
We saw it last week.
You had Braylon moving.
He looked great in that first half,
and then you got away from it in that second half completely.
I think he had, what, five or six touches that entire half.
I think Frank Reich's got to simplify the process just a bit.
go to your two main horses that is Garrett Wilson
and that is Braylon Allen and just
just just live or die on the backs of those two
on Sunday you're not playing some vaunted defense
you'll be fine it's not you know you're not going
to turn the ball over all that much and if you do
you do you can't play scared I think this whole team
for the most part especially on offense it's
almost like they're playing not to lose like go
and make plays when we tried some stuff down the
field last week it worked look at Omar Cooper Jr. had
a big game like take your shots with those
guys but i'm not i don't know what's going
on with Sadiq by the way i i would assume he's still
hurt because he played what like 23 snaps right
like last week i mean it was yeah i mean look i
think it's complicated with Mason Taylor being
back i think they're trying to figure that out
and they ended up with and then you have Cooper back in the mix too
so they ended up doing a lot
of um 11 personnel they didn't have
as they weren't doing as many multiple tight end sets
as they had in the past so you know it's a nice problem to have
but when you have all these guys
healthy it's going to be a little bit trickier
to get everybody you know on the field well speaking
of getting the ball into players hands cause you made quite
the storm this week after you had talked
about on our last episode of Gangs All Here about what
did I do you just said Garrett was frustrated
as hell coming off the field
and look there is this fan base of the Jets that some will look at
this as stop trying to chase Garrett Wilson out of town
and and I feel like that is where very
one-sided to look at this when the reality
of the situation is because he did going into that game
only have two targets in the first half one catch
and then it was force fed in the second half and
really too little too late in terms of game execution
the offense as we saw and what Frankie's
talking about too and I think you understand
this they get cross midfield they can put a drive
together but then they cannot finish whatsoever they don't have
that element right now of putting
points on the board in terms of converting red zone trips
into touchdowns and just once they
get across midfield actually sustaining a long drive
into a touchdown Garrett Wilson feels like
right now it's against the bad teams
or teams that don't have good defenses or secondaries
he's exploding for for targets yards receptions all that talk to me
guys is is are we being
too negative as a media covering Garrett Wilson
and that perhaps we're forcing him out of
here because we're always looking for that angle
of hey you know you weren't involved in
the offense this week are you angry
and upset do you want out of here does that make sense what
i'm saying yeah i think it's a misperception
though like you know i i was i did a spaces
this morning um and i was asked i basically
the guy kind of said that why does the media
make it a story that Garrett's
going to demand a trade after every
bad game or whatever. I never said
he's going to demand a trade. I don't think I mentioned that
at all. That's taking it
to a different level.
I know what I saw
and I saw a very frustrated
player walking off that field.
Again, I'm not going to quote him because I don't think it's fair
to him to quote what he was saying, but I
know what he said.
He wasn't happy about the targets
and he was in the locker
room it took a long time and a long conversation
with the jets pr staff before he talked to us and
i think you if you watch the video
of him talking he's clearly holding back right he's frustrated
um so i don't think we created a story out
of nothing there like he was frustrated we were
just reporting what it was and if your best player
is frustrated that's a story i don't know what to
tell you like that that it's it's definitely it's
an interesting story um i don't know where the
trade stuff comes from i don't know why people
are going down that road maybe can i interject
here Frankie about why the trade stuff's happening
because it's because last year they went through
the zero to seven start and they traded Sauce after signing
to extension they traded Quinn and Williams
and they figure as Jets fans
and there's a large contingent of them right now who view this as
we are pushing that next superstar out of here
because he's frustrated after not getting the
ball in the game and they feel like that is where
the slant is coming from from the media yeah i
don't think anyone's pushing him out i don't think
anyone's saying like that i've seen i don't read
every single thing that's written about the Jets
but i haven't seen anything where people are
pushing him out uh and Quinn
and Sauce are completely different situations where Quinn
wanted out Quinn Quinn was tired of losing here
and Quinn wanted Quinn wanted that Sauce was
traded out of the blue he didn't know he
was getting traded so Sauce wasn't looking to get
traded uh i don't believe Garrett's looking
to get traded you know um so you know i don't think i
think that's taking a leap from being frustrated about targets
to demanding a trade i think
Garrett every time i've had a conversation
with him Garrett wants to be part of the solution here
Garrett wants to turn this around but it beats guys down
and it beat you know it beats beat
Quinn and Williams down it beat Jamal Adams down
like there's there's guys it's tough they all come
here with the great hope of turning this thing around
and when it doesn't it's tough and i
understand Garrett's frustration he will think all
the coordinators he's been through i think
all the quarterbacks he's been through right like
this has not gone well his Jets experience has not
been a great one so far but i think Garrett wants
to be part of the solution i think he wants to be
here still he signed the contract extension um so you know
but yeah if Garrett's coming off the
field gesticulating and complaining
and it's going to be a story guys i don't know what to tell you
cause does it feel any different this year
with Garrett do you think that i mean that
outbursts he apparently had on the sideline
or just have him in
frustration? No, Garrett's a very passionate
guy. He's always been that way.
He's always very frustrated after losses. I think it's
what you want.
I've never
seen him slam a teammate.
I've never seen him do that stuff.
Garrett points at himself. Garrett
says the right things when he talks to us.
So I think Garrett is a good
teammate. He was
very frustrated with Aaron Rodgers a few years ago.
That wasn't the best relationship in the world.
but Garrett never went public with that.
He, he was, he was a good soldier.
So I, I, but Frankie, like there's some guys who just,
you see the losing, Hey, it cuts them. Yeah. And as if I was a fan,
I think I'd appreciate that because there's other guys
who lose and they act
like nothing's happening. Right. And, and one of the things,
when I got into this business
that struck me, like, you know, many, many,
many years ago is that a lot of times fans care more than players. And,
And, you know, I can remember being in the Mets clubhouse once
when their season ended, and fans were crying as I walked down
Shea Stadium ramps.
The fans were crying.
You get to the clubhouse, and the players are like, yeah,
this is what it is.
And you almost, I think they develop
a thick skin as professional athletes.
But Garrett is a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve.
I think that should be appreciated by fans.
Ryan, let me just say one thing from the fan perspective
of this whole thing.
They're there to do a job.
I think sometimes, guys, you're there to do a job.
The Post, The Athletic, you know
and like it's part of your job you guys aren't fans you're not
fans of the team like you're there to do a job
and i got caught up in it too when i'm like damn
you just have the kids sitting out there
not you i'm saying the whole media in general seems like
your point you're poking at the guy
and they are a little bit that's part of the job like what's
going on like there's no we got to separate
those two things i saw people on twitter saying oh they
should you know redo the whole beat
and have like independent like media on there like oh yeah so
Jeff fans throw softball questions
and no one clicks on an article right you want that like
welcome to the world of news it is turn on your tv
that's how no one's reporting about the new
sandwich shop that they're reporting about
the guy stabbed somebody going on the subway
that went dark quick right yeah that got really i'm just saying
that's what news is we're talking
about a player being frustrated getting targets in football
and not that breaking well i'm just
And I will say this,
I'll say this for all the guys out there in the content
creator world. And there are a lot of them in this jet space.
Too many.
Look, they hate us, Frankie.
And I understand it, but I will say this.
All I asked Cause on Monday was, is what's going on with Garrett.
And because he wasn't targeted in the first half and they,
he seemed to be not part of the game plan
or at least Geno was not going his
way. And I, and I wonder cause how does this improve, right?
like we always and and this feels like a repeat
as well like always thematically because they
gotta get the ball to Garrett more like why aren't they getting
the ball but also the same point
Garrett's on pace for the highest amount
of targets yards yeah receptions all the top 10
in the NFL and he leads AFC
in receptions right yeah right yeah it's not yeah i've had this
conversation with a few times people with the Jets
this week it's not the totals it's these long gaps
where he's not targeted that's the problem
and there's been Green Bay it happened uh this game
had happened uh Chicago Chicago I throw out that was Chicago was crazy
but like there's just these
long periods where he's not targeted now i
do think AD Mitchell returning Breece Hall returning
like we have not seen this offense as it
was envisioned in the summer play together outside
of the first series in Tennessee yeah right
because Omar Cooper got hurt in the first series
i do think there's going to be more opportunities for Garrett
when Ad Mitchell, Omar Cooper, Kenyan
Sadik Mason, Taylor Brees Hall, Braylon Allen, we have all
these guys now all of a sudden Frank
Wright's going to look like a smarter coordinator
that's how this works right you get better
players out there you look like a better coach
so i do think that is going to help if you say
Ryan how do they improve this i think naturally
that's going to help it but we talked to Frank
Wright today like he's they want to get
in the ball it's it's pretty clear you know so um i think
I think they'll be making an effort to get him more involved this week.
I mean, again, guys, it would not shock me this week
if Garrett ends up with 10 catches, 100-plus yards, a touchdown.
Yeah, the Miami secondary, like to your point, Ryan,
the Miami secondary fits in with the bad secondaries, you know,
so Garrett should be able to capitalize on it.
No doubt.
And look, I think the follow-up to all this, Kaz, is right,
these next two weeks, and if the Jets
are not able to come out with wins
against the Dolphins and Raiders,
and they're staring at the wrong side of two
and six now the question does beg itself do you see
this team potentially selling off players again
for picks for the future i don't Ryan i and i i
don't know what players i know we talked about
Garrett i don't think they're interested in
trading Breece Hall, I don't think
they're interested in trading Breece Hall
Will McDonald, sure I can see them trading Will McDonald
but Olu Fasuyi, what are you going to get
for Will McDonald, they're not trading, I don't think
they're trading Olu, I don't think they're doing
that you know, um I think yeah Will McDonald you're gonna get
a fifth round pick for him
something like that should have been a third
so they might do that but I don't, I don't see them
being very active at the deadline, right I would
be surprised, I look, I didn't see what happened
was coming last year at all like I, I never thought they
were trading Ross Gardner, so
Darren Moore has surprised me before, I just feel like they're kind
of further down the line now
where things are lined up for 2027, I don't feel like they have
to move a lot of pieces to get a
better position, they've got the draft picks already
um so I, I don't see, I don't see them
being big sellers uh or anything okay I mean it, it, it would become
an interesting point of the
season if they do become two and six after these next two games
and there's you know what they
would do with this roster moving forward all right let's talk about
this game guys uh and and there
is this matchup here cause that I am, I
am fascinated with besides the Jets offense it's
Aaron Glenn's defense against the run
and the the dolphins do have Ollie Gordon, they don't have
Devon Achane anymore but they have Ollie Gordon
who has looked pretty solid so far and the dolphins
are gonna try to run the ball
also Malik Willis is not so you know light of foot either so what
do the jets do to improve on defensively against
the run boy that's a good question ryan i mean it
was weird last week i didn't think they
were bad all day against the run but when they really needed
to stop in the fourth quarter they just they just didn't have
an answer there um so i don't know
specifically i don't think there's much you can
do personnel wise they've got who they've got
um i just you know i think they've got to work on buttoning things up
and being better being
better against the run uh i do think coming
into this game it's the focus right the dolphins are
not doing much in the passing game
so it shouldn't be what they're working on all week i think
I think Aaron Glenn can be aggressive in this game with blitzes.
I don't think you'd be afraid of Malik Willis.
I thought last week, I know there was a lot
of conversation about blitzing Drake May.
Drake May can kill you with the blitz.
I wouldn't be afraid of that with Malik Willis.
I think you're going to see a more
aggressive Aaron Glenn defense this week,
similar to what you saw against Cleveland.
And that's going to help against the run as well as the pass.
Frankie, we know that's going
to be the Miami Dolphins' offensive point of attack.
They're averaging over 120 yards per game in the run game.
uh if for you i wonder with the blitz frankie
do you blitz a a running quarterback like Cos said
and not being afraid of the fact that he can take off
with his legs yeah man i mean it's a tough one
i i agree with Cos i think you want
to speed up Malik Willis's clock as much as possible i don't
think they have the receivers nor the tight end
that you're really worried about those guys getting
the ball and getting enough YAC i think
our safeties have played really well actually so
even if they are picking up things early
and and getting the ball out quick and i don't see these
guys making too many explosive plays i will say
though when it comes to the defense specifically
i think our defensive tackles for the most part
this year have been bad i'll just say that i think
Briggs has disappeared he was supposed
to be a big component had a really good year last year Harrison
Phillips where are you man
and i i don't really sweat s looked good sometimes but he's just too
big to get to the quarterback
that's just it i mean what's he gonna do so i i worry a little bit
about these defensive tackles
and how they are able to address the run and get some pass rush
right you can't just depend on your two edge guys
to constantly try to get home and you're getting
nothing between the tackles literally
and they're able to run between the tackles i mean the running
games versus us it's not like these guys
are all just bouncing it to the outside and it's like a
Will McDonald David Bailey problem i think it's between
the tackles i think DeMario Davis too
he's looked hit or miss sometimes maybe age age gets everybody
so i don't know the defense also
the miscommunications i wish we got a little bit more clarity
as to that part of of sunday's game
because when you have Jamie
and sure we're telling Bailey they did that so I hold on one second I
I talked to somebody about that.
Jamie Sherwood did not tell Bailey to drop there.
Okay.
I think that was a rookie mistake.
Okay.
I think it was David Bailey.
David Bailey didn't know his assignment there,
and that's my understanding.
Gotcha.
Okay.
And then, Kaz, what did you make of the goal line,
the touchdown wide open to Hunter Henry as well?
Yeah, I don't know that one.
That one is a good one.
DeMario and Belton, right, Kaz?
What's that?
Was that DeMario and Belton?
DeMario was kind of pointing around afterwards,
But then I think Zach Rosenblatt pointed out
that Brownlee didn't play after that.
He was on the other side of the formation.
He didn't really play after that.
So, yeah, I mean, sometimes it's tough to get these answers
because guys don't like to point fingers.
But I'll see if I can find anything about that one.
In terms of injuries, Malik Willis did
practice with a right thumb issue.
And Jeff Hafley says Malik needs to be better as a quarterback overall,
and he's not considering a change.
their backup is Kyle McCord uh but I think
also they put they give away the football cause and
and I know I'm saying this the Jets can force some fumbles
but it's only been one interception
this year could the Jets defense finally generate
a second interception is that too much to ask
that's a good one that's a good one Ryan yeah yeah
no I think I think you could get one here and
right they haven't won a home yet
so maybe this is the first one in that life since
the uh january of 25 the merger you know since
the merger uh yeah no i think that's i think
that's a fair ask okay can they can they get one
here maybe minka gets one against his old team
that'd be cool yeah the thing the crazy thing about
that stat is there's only two other teams
in football dallas and i forget the other team that only
also has one an interception so i mean
we got one and we're like we're good we're good
for another 10 games everyone well they have four
in that game technically yeah yeah true yeah yeah
um and then guys i gotta talk about david
bailey here too he was shut out from from getting any pressures
or sacks on the quarterback last
week um you know frankie it with bailey we've seen
him dropping coverage like that one touchdown was
like like i said it was a rookie mistake
but he did have the forced fumble last week he was he
was held off it felt like the most most part
of the game as did the jets pass rush can he get back
on the scoreboard this week and get a sack
versus a guy like Malik Willis?
Yeah, man, you know what? I thought Sunday was
a welcome to the NFL moment for David Bailey.
I thought Josh McDaniels and that whole
offense was like, you're not doing anything, kid.
Nice game you had. You got
AFC, Defensive Player of the Week.
You're still a rookie.
And I think Kaz has said this before, and I think he
has been spot on. That's what rookies
do. They'll flash a game or two
and then they won't for two or three games.
That's why they're rookies, right? If they weren't,
they'd be some of the best.
If they didn't do that, they'd be the best
rookie you've ever seen kind of thing.
So I do think Bailey will have a better game.
I wish they would simplify the defense for him a bit.
I think they're trying to make him do too many things.
And I think he's actually pulled it off.
I'll say this.
He's underratedly strong as heck, strong as an ox, and super athletic.
We saw what he can run at the combine.
You're just asking him to do too many things.
And I just think, like, simplify the game plan.
I think Glenn in general, I thought
he tried to do a little bit too much
with Bailey specifically and the defense against New England.
I don't think you got to go that crazy against Miami.
Let Bailey do what he does best instead of dropping back nine times
like he did again on Sunday.
And I don't mind a few here and there.
That's part of the, you know, the scheme.
It's part of the pressures they're trying to.
Yeah, you got to do that once in a while.
I'm not totally against dropping him back at all, but I don't know.
Simplify for the kid.
but listen if they're and by the way if they're chipping him
and and getting help from backs and
tight ends even doubling him that should open things up
for the guy next to him like are we
gonna get a defensive tackle that's gonna take care of a one-on-one
or on the other side because
i mean like you gotta give if you have two on one
or you have a tight end that's slowing his route
down or slowing himself down because he's chipping
the guy that should give you a little advantage so
even if bailey's not doing anything that should help out
the rest of the guys to make plays right
I mean, it's football.
But, yeah, I think he'll have a pretty solid game.
I do.
Cause David Bailey right now is the favorite, according to DraftKings,
as defensive rookie of the year.
Right now, second is Arvell Reese,
and the guy who's going to be on the other side of the field,
Jacob Rodriguez, is third.
He's having a good season.
Yeah, he's having a good season.
A lot of tackles.
Yeah, I'm with Frankie.
Bailey's going to – he'll be fine.
I think one thing that's stood out to me these first six weeks
is when you talk about the Jets' first-round picks.
We always talk about quarterback.
They've got to get a defensive tackle in here that can have an impact.
They miss Quinnen Williams really bad.
I know Quinnen didn't always get sacks,
but Quinnen would push the pocket
and he would F up plays and other guys could clean up and get stuff.
Jets just don't have that guy right now.
To me, that's a priority.
I just saw Jim Schwartz, the old Lions coach, defense coordinator.
He did an interview with somebody I saw.
And they asked him what's the most
important possession on defense right now
And he said defensive tackle
Interesting, really
I mean, if you look at the Seahawks, right
With Leonard Williams
They have other guys there
They have a strong defensive line
It's a very, very critical position to me
And the Jets need help there
And teams are running the ball again, Ry
The running games are starting to pick up a bit
Teams are getting back into 30-35 carries a game kind of mode sometimes
Well, that was something that was actually somewhat of a strength
for this Jets offensive line last week, Kaz,
is that you had highlighted on Monday's episode that, you know,
you thought that they actually did a nice job opening up some holes
for Braylon Allen.
And the other thing I'll say about this Jets offensive line, Kaz,
and I want to ask you is, is Geno's been sacked 19 times
in six games this year.
The Dolphins have four sacks all year long.
Is this a week that where the Jets
offensive line with Parham coming back,
they should be able to hold up versus Dolphins pass rush?
You'd think so, right?
I think so, Ryan.
Obviously, I think if you're playing the Jets now,
you're doing a lot of stunts,
you're blitzing, you're doing the things that have confused them.
I thought last week they had that one series where they were backed up,
where they gave up two sacks, and then they had the third down sack.
That was huge in the red zone.
But I didn't think pressure
was a huge problem all day against the Patriots.
There was just some – they got beat on a few plays.
So, yeah, I think looking at it,
you would expect them to have a good week
this week against a weaker Dolphins defensive line.
They played some good defensive lines this year.
Dolphins aren't one of them.
Yeah, Frankie, I will say this about Jacob Arrigas.
This Dolphins run defense is 3.7 yards per carry allowed.
None of its opponents this year have
topped four yards per carry in a game.
So if the Jets' offensive run game cannot get going,
they should rely more on this passing attack.
Would you expect this offensive line to hold up more?
Yeah, I mean, listen, this is a game where I think
the offensive line can
have their way a bit. I think they
could give Geno a little bit more time
than he, or
as much time as he'd want, excuse me, because he wants
forever back there.
And I think you're going to be able to move them
on the ground a bit, especially with Parham coming back.
So I do think this
is a game where the offensive line can shine
a little bit and say like, you guys were
talking about us being one of the
top 10-ish groups in football. Well,
let's show you. I will say though, on the other
side they got some guys too
though Chop Robinson's a good player he can get to the quarterback uh
he's been in and out of the lineup
but he he he he can move a bit so like and Jacob Rodriguez we
spoke about they have another kid Chris Johnson
who's a good corner that they drafted who's
playing really well this year a kid i really liked out
of San Diego State but yeah this is
an offensive line game and again back to what i
was saying earlier just simplify the process
you need to win this game period i don't think you need
to get cute in this game i think you
win by running the football with whomever even Isaiah Davis
if you want you want to give him
give him carries try to get Garrett the ball as much as possible
or Omar Cooper Jr and i think
you'll win the football game if you
do that if Frank Reich tries to get cute and do some other
things or not cute enough
when you need to sometimes you know pull out a play on like a
crucial third and short
then we might have a problem on our hands i just i i i think with
Miami two weeks off or a week
and a half off whatever coming off a bye with a defensive coach
they're going to come in with the strategy i just think you have
to say we have better talent than
you we will move the ball and we have a receiver
that you can't guard and i just think just keep
it simple so you can just survive this week's game
but survive you're expecting a close one here
yes i i actually am i'll give you the i'll give you
the prediction i i have a nice prediction
not yet i'm just saying we'll get into i'm
not gonna get into it yeah i'm just letting you know
it's gonna be a close game man i think it's gonna
be very close too close for comfort my last question
before we get into over-unders
and predictions is Glenn was asked this week if he needs to get his
get more involved with the offense
which i think i i don't want my defensive head coach getting
involved in the offense but uh he says that the offense
is doing some good things he likes their
efficiency on play action is he right about
that and does he does he need to step in more with
Frank Reich on this offense uh i don't know
if he's right about that i mean they're grasping it
positives right now so i've heard all about how
they they're scoring all these long touchdowns
you know here's the thing i've reached Ryan
and i've had conversations with people i've said this
it's funny there's eight billion stats out
of fingertips right now right there's next gen stats
there's PFF true media right it is my favorite you know
the Frankie V index is probably out there
FVI well you know what stats matter
to me how many freaking points did you score and how many
points did the other team score
and they scored four touchdowns in the last three games they're
they're not scoring touchdowns and you can give me all the positives
and all the negatives you want
that's all that matters
when it comes down to it is this team has scored 20
points since 18.7 average cause,
which is only one point more than last year.
Just throwing it out there.
So 20 is like a pretty low number,
a pretty low bar and they haven't,
they're not hitting it.
So,
you know,
shouldn't he be more involved?
I don't think so.
Right.
I don't think that's the answer.
It's interesting.
We talked to Frank Wright today and he said,
Glenn is in his headsets,
like saying,
get the ball to Garrett,
get the ball,
to the playmakers.
Like he,
he is a,
you know,
that level of involved in the offense.
and I think that's good. He should be.
I think we always wonder how involved is he
on game day in the offense, and
he is pointing it out to them that they've got to get
more involved.
But no, I don't think
that's the answer right now.
In Frank Reich's defense, because I think he's
taken a lot of heat this week, again,
I would like to see
him have A.D. Mitchell,
Omar Cooper, Garrett Wilson on the
field at the same time.
Let's see what the offense looks like
if they have that. Now, you're not going to get that
every week it's the NFL I understand it
but they we haven't seen that basically at all in that
first series in Tennessee
so I I think this offense I think he'll look like a better coach
when he has better players out there it's funny how talent works like
that way yeah you know but
also at the same time as you guys know I'm a great softball coach
and my team is in the
championship again hey congrats we play next week
but I look like a lot better coach some when my
best players are that's just kind of how it works guys
and that's how it works in the NFL as well
as well no doubt and i also i think there's some validity to the scheme
and how you're using these
players and putting them in certain spots
and there are play calls that you can dial up directly
to Garrett Wilson and directly to Breece Hall
and directly to Braylon Allen but it's harder
it's harder when you don't have someone
on the other side like i mean it was clear the Patriots
they were talking about number five after
the game yeah like those guys those players heard
that all week is we got to take number five out of the game
and you don't have to be Bill Belichick
you know or Buddy Ryan to figure out that's
the formula to beating the Jets last week is just
make sure that guy doesn't beat us anybody else
on this field can beat us just take him out it's
harder to do that now Mitchell's are stretching
the field cooper will get better and better you
think if they can you know but yeah i'm with you
and i asked Frank Reich about his philosophy on
motion today because i do think they could do more
with that and he said like you know he's not
going to be a guy that does the most motions he doesn't
do it just to do it but he is they do talk
about it every week and how they can effectively use it
to get guys open so you know i i think
he's never going to be ben johnson right
and having receivers release up the a gap i just
don't think you're going to see that but they they
are they are at least talking about it uh
All right, fellas, let's do some over-unders and some predictions.
Last week.
Brutal again, right?
0-4, Kaz.
Not pretty for you.
0-4.
I was on fire last year.
I mean, I was so on it through three quarters,
and then that fourth quarter just
was like the biggest joke of a quarter.
Frankie, you were 1-3.
I was 2-2.
Jesus.
On the season, Kaz is 6-17.
That's 11 units under.
i'm in the positive i'm 13 and 10 and frankie is 6
and 13 you guys are not giving out winners
right now i'll say that i don't think we should
give out over-unders i'm making you money the
other two don't listen to the reverse us all right
so let's start with Geno Smith cause
221 and a half pass yards what
do you got over i agree over i'm going under oh lord that's how
you're going to lose money people uh Garrett Wilson cause 64
and a half receiving yards
over like if you go if you don't see
this Garrett performance coming your eyes aren't open
all this talk this week they're going
to be forcing him the ball he might have 22 targets
on sunday good i agree over frankie i agree all
right Ollie Gordon they're running back for the
Dolphins because they don't have the rushing line for Brees
or Braelon right now considering
in Brees just practiced today Ollie Gordon though 50
and a half rushing yards cause over i am gonna
go under i think the jets are gonna try
and stop the run real hardcore frankie i'm gonna go over
and i think he's gonna double
that by the way wow all right give me a touchdown scorer cause
oh touchdown scorer can't be Garrett Wilson can't
be Garrett i was gonna go yeah i could
um i will go i'll go Mason Taylor i like that
Mason Taylor cause he is plus 475 you're making
some money for some people here frankie i'm gonna go
with Mason Taylor's counterpart i'm gonna go
Kenyan Sadiq sadiq the freak can he get
in the end zone i will go with free salt minus 125
if he's playing they got him on here if he's
on here he's scoring if not i'll take the take the
tie or the loss whatever you want
to give it i think what did you get for what's the line on
jets defensive touchdown oh cause you're asking
the right questions here it's plus 600 i was gonna
say 650 i don't think it'd be more than that yeah
so would i the dolphins are actually plus 650
they haven't just haven't had one since 2023 yes
so you know they must know something they know
something they're not going to give you all that money
that you want to win all right fellas let's
do some predictions uh last week we were all
on the patriots we were all correct and uh now on
the season cause is four and two i'm four and two
and frankie is four and one so i'll start with
frankie on this one since you think it's gonna
be a close one why don't you give us you pick my
score again i don't think i'm gonna pick your score
this week cause um all right i've uh i've
spoken to a lot of people tried to pick people's brains
on this game i'm gonna go with my heart
on this one meaning what i'm feeling out there
what i think's gonna happen not as a fan i'm
saying like as a as an nfl person not gonna go with my head
because my head would tell me that
the Jets have more talent than Miami's zero to five
that they're traveling here and the Jets are
gonna beat them because they have talent guys I think
this thing's starting to spiral I think the
the helicopter spinning without a direction I'm
not something's off I don't know what it is I
don't know if it's from Aaron Glenn Frank Reich
the fans seem super on edge some fans are ready
for a loss in this one to just go full tank mode I'm indifferent
at this point right I just
want to see something different
which we don't see ever um I don't think I don't think the Jets
are going to be able to stop Ollie Gordon I
really don't he had a hundred and you know over
100 yards on 11 carries against Minnesota's top rush defense
in Minnesota they've had a week and
a half to prepare I think Halfley's gonna have
a game plan I think there's gonna be a super low
scoring game I'd go with the under across
the board everywhere that you can outside of Garrett
Wilson and Ollie Gordon rushing I uh I'm I'm I think
the Dolphins are gonna beat us I do we
haven't won a division game I'm going
with wait you know what Kaz says Kaz Kaz you always say
this yeah never bet against a team with zero wins right
so i'm gonna take what he's now granted
they've had zero wins now for five weeks
so whatever, but guys, Ryan, something doesn't smell
right i don't know if i need to clean my apartment okay
but can you give us the score
miami 13 jets 10 ugly game they're not neither
for 10 points wow yeah i think it's gonna be a
an ish show as they say
Mr. Costello please help us
Ryan's ready for me to stop talking
Ryan I'm sorry man
I do think it's going to be a close game
in the fourth quarter
but I think the Jets are going to win this game
and I think this is going to be
like eating your vegetables it's not going to be
very satisfying for you Jets fans
but you know
you did the right thing you're going to win the game
but it's just going to be
feels like the Jets are taking off and then
they just don't I just
team. Frankie, if they have zero
wins when the Jets go down to Miami, I might
feel differently and pick it.
I do think, what's the line right now, Ryan?
Four and a half still. Four and a half? Yeah, so
I think the Dolphins cover, but the Jets
win. I'm going to go Jets 24,
Dolphins 20. Aaron Glenn's
first divisional win. First divisional
win. Alright, I'm going to keep this short
and sweet. It's going to be a bloodbath
for the Dolphins. The Jets are going to blow
them out. It's going to be an all-out
offensive attack for this offense. They're getting
all their weapons back.
Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson.
Garrett Wilson's going to have a huge day,
probably his best game ever as a Jet.
Don't shock me there.
Too much noise around him right now.
They're going to give him the ball early and often.
I got the Jets blowing out the Dolphins
because the Dolphins are the worst team in football.
It's no doubt in my mind.
It's going to be Jets 27, Dolphins 14.
Give me a 13-point win over the Jets.
I thought we were going like 45-3.
Yeah, like 42-14 or something.
Touchdown, Jason.
Come on.
It's a double-digit win.
Come on.
I thought we were talking bloodbath.
All right, 31-13 Jets.
How about that?
31-13.
Better, better, better.
But bloodbath, I think, like, 40-point win.
I thought you were going to –
No, no, no.
The Jets don't even have to score 40
points, if I'm being honest with you.
Yes, that's the problem.
Here's one for you.
The Jets score a touchdown inside
the two-minute warning in the first half.
And the crowd at MetLife goes wild.
And on Monday morning,
we're going to be saying it's now 100 to 13 in the last two minutes.
You know what's crazy?
That's going on the prediction full screen, by the way, for next week.
That's going on the prediction full screen.
The craziest thing about what Kaz just said,
if they do score a touchdown within two minutes,
that would be more and an extra point.
That would be more points than Aaron Glenn has
ever scored within two minutes of the first half.
You just have to think, guys, that there's guys in,
I'm in the building right now,
there's guys in offices right now, like,
studying two-minute offense of, like,
they must be doing analytics, like, all over the place of, like,
what are the best play called with 52 seconds left and one timeout?
They, like, it has to be driving them crazy that that 106 number
is taking such a life of its own this week.
God, I hope so.
Kaz, Frankie, thank you both fellas.
Kaz, we're looking forward to your coverage throughout the week,
and then we'll catch up with you next week.
Thank you, guys.
All right, guys.
Appreciate it.
