Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening guys. Whatever time y'all were tuning in. I still appreciate y'all are here. Today's video guys
We're gonna be going over the five essential tools. I need when I restore a knife
We're gonna go over there to the other workshop and we're gonna look at all the tools
I'll tell you how much it costs and it's very cheap guys to get into the little hobby
That I love so much to take knives apart clean them put them back together. I love it
I really do and we also guys gonna look at tonight's
Knives for the auction. We're gonna go over the
Bonifay Florida knife hall. So anyway guys
Thank y'all so much for tuning in today, and I hope you enjoy the video
Okay, guys
probably the most important
tools that I have in this little
Five essential but it's it's a few more than five. I want to just go ahead and tell you
Anyway, this right here the 1 by 30 sand belt. That's probably one I use the most
between these two that's a 3 inch bench grinder and that is the
Desktop
Sander 1 by 30 belt and it'll do most anything you need it to do handles
blades
All kinds of stuff sharpening. I love it. I really do and you again you can buy these two at Harbor Freight
that's where I bought mine and I've been using this thing for
probably more than five years now and
This one here. I've been using about the same time as it as this one here, but I use
Different type of wheels. This is a polishing
Cloth wheel here and this is like a more of a fiber wheel, but you can polish with it too. And this is the
Actual fiber wheel that cleans
Surface rust and grime off of knives and inside the knife. I use it a lot
I really do I have some new ones, but I think they're in the house still they just
Can't come in. I haven't brought them out to the shop yet, but I've been using this to actual polish
The bolsters and it doesn't it does a better job than that one there that one does a good job
but this one does a
Great job
And then of course the polishing compound again, I bought it by that at Harbor Freight. It does a great job
but guys this right here is these two are the
The stars of the show here. I actually have three stars of the show
I'm sorry, but these two are very essential to get into the hobby of knife restoration and this one here, I think
The price will be right here, but I think it's like 59 bucks or 69 bucks and this one here
I think it's 49 bucks, but the price will be right here Harbor Freight. You can't go wrong with these two
I actually have a brand new one in the box
Waiting to go as soon as this one tears. I'm fitting to buy me one to have it on standby as well
but the only thing about this I've noticed guys when it's like cloudy and rainy and
It creates static and that belt will throw off an arc
Like that far I'm telling you it will shock your hand and you can even feel it through the knife if you're holding the
pins or the springs
You just got to be careful because that causes static
Electricity and I've noticed that when it's cloudy the clouds are low
It's just I guess a lot of humidity in there. I don't know but
They're met barometric pressure
Really don't know but I've noticed it on cloudy days and rainy days
That's when it'll do it the most so but it will shock you you got to be careful
Now this one here guys is essential to this is my vice. It's actually a craftsman
but uh
I've had James from warrior works
He gave me a little anvil, but I cannot get used to that thing. It's so narrow and
It ain't stable enough
I just did not learn on that. I'm very comfortable with this. I learned on it because it's
You can use it so many ways. It's like an anvil here
You can hold things like your third hand guys, and I love it. I really do it
I don't think I'll ever get away from using my vice, but it's an old craftsman
And I picked this up at a state sale, but you can rotate it in any direction you need to but
That right there. It's got that flat part. I use that a lot and I use the grips a lot and I like to
Put a cloth up here make it thick and that's where I do my pins at I will lay the knife up there
And I'll do the all three pins up here. I'll punch them out
but then you got the
Drill press guys. I use that from time. I don't use that a whole lot. You really don't need that
It's it's nice to have though. I
Really is good for handles and stuff like that. That's what I mainly use that for
sometimes I have to drill out a pin, but most of the time I can
Punch them out, but these three right here are the keys
Good vice
That's your third hand
And then you got your one by thirty
Desktop sander. I love it. Then you got your three inch bench grinder and you can use
different wheels on there
Along with the polishing compound now, I don't use polishing compound with the fiber wheel
But now when you're using these I'm glad I've come back over here when you're using these now
You got to dip it in water here. I have a water cup right there
that
I'll fill it up, but actually the heat out here
Evaporates the water a lot, but when you're using when you're sanding your
Blades and stuff like that your bolsters
Like shining up
Bolsters is good to dip them back and dip it into the water not let them get too hot
Don't let it get it over heated. So that's a key element out here, too
And guys coming on over here a good ball-peen hammer. I think this is a four ounce
It ain't real big but but I like to use this size here
It's got just enough weight and I got I didn't see a weight on here, but I think
That says bond. I don't know where
But this is a good little
That might be the weight right there or something. I
This is the perfect size ball-peen
Hammer, I love it. I really do and then guys another thing you need is punches
Once you cut the pins to take the knife. Well, this is what I use to cut the pins with mainly
As long as it's nickel silver brass it'll cut it, but if it gets stainless steel, they're hard to cut with this
I'll show you what I use to cut stainless steel pins, but this is what I use guys to actually put
between the bolster and the blade when I'm peening the
Around the blade so because if you just peen it the blades gonna get too tight
It won't snap but this what I always say creates a safe space
I put it down in between the bolster and the blade peen
peen the main or peen the pin around the blade and
This always allows it to have that extra just enough room for it to snap
But this right here too guys, this is like a I guess you call it an eyeglass
Little screwdriver. I don't know what you call these but but you can find them at most hardware stores
but I like to use these to clean out the blade chamber to clean around the the
I
guess the foot of the
Blade around the tang and everything where it connects with the spring
I like to clean that with these screwdrivers here
They come in different sizes as you see here. I always buy set
See, that's the big boy there
I don't really use that that one that much but that's the perfect size to get in them little cracks where the wire brush can't reach
And just scratch it out
But the pins are really once you cut I
Once you cut the pins I use these punches to punch out the cut pins
These are always good to have I mainly use that one there, but if I need some
heavy punch I use
This one here, but what I used to cut stainless steel pins guys. I actually made this
This is a craftsman chisel, but I narrowed that down real thin
But it's a hard steel and sometimes I had to re
sharpen it, but I made it thin enough where it will go down between the
Liner and the actual spring to cut the pin and
I've called this the lb7 buster because
On the front of the lb7. That's the Schrade lock back. I'll show you one here in a minute, but it has a
stainless steel
Pin that's real big. It's hard to cut
see here's one on a
This is lb7. It's got a broke tip, but you see that pin
That's nothing but stainless steel right there and them things are hard to cut
And that's why I come up with this
Lb7
Buster here, and it will cut that pin. No problem. No problem at all. I
Love this thing
Then guys always use some type of super glue to help repair the bones to help put
Handle scales back on to the the liner
It works good. It cures instantly and it really is really helpful with
repairing bone
like broken pieces of bone like I can graft a piece of bone to where it's
like if a piece is
Broke off is that's good to use to actually
glue the bone up and then
Fill that crack with that in some bone dust what I like to call it, but also use the epoxy
30-minute slow cure, but if you can find out it pops knife supply
But this is the resin and this is the hardener here
You just mix the equal amounts together stir it real good and you got yourself an awesome bond
But that's these right here
and guys the
Vise I cannot stress enough between the vise the 1 by 30
Desktop sander and the 3 inch bench grinder how important these three are to make everything work
Then you got your little hand tools to complete the process
But then once I get everything together guys, I like to use
Rim oil rim rim oil to me is the best it penetrates good. It's thin it cleans
It's for corrosion wear and rust. I mean it does a fantastic job
and that's why I love to use rim oil on knives and
I
Haven't found anything that works no better
any
Better I should say
But once it gets clean I'll use a
controlled I
Use a controlled way of putting the ballast all just a little bit around the blades once it's clean, but for cleaning
You can't get no better than that right there
you really can't but then once I clean it and and wipe it down real good and after I
Lube it up and make sure it's clean and make sure it ain't oily no more
What I like to use first is the never dull because it has this wad here like a cotton wad
I don't know what you call it. But anyway, I like to use that
But this right here guys is just some good stuff
I've used it for years and years and never dull has never failed me
It cleans it really good mainly because of this wad here
I love it. And then once I get it cleaned up and and pretty well good and shiny
I like to hit it with this Flitz here
Metal plastic and fiberglass polish. It does bone real good too. It polishes up bone
This to me cleans better mainly because of the wad but this right here
shines better I
Just love the combination of the two
But there it is guys my essential gear. I might be using a little bit more than five
but you can count one two three and
then
four and
You can just group this together five
But then you need your glue as well, too. So don't forget the lb7
Buster right here, but that's my essential gear guys
To restore knives. It don't cost that much to get into the hobby at all. But the main thing you can't do
is say
There's you can read all about how to do it if you want to but you ain't gonna never learn until you start
OJT on-the-job training is the best
Way to learn and and taking a knife apart cut cutting the pins
Putting it all back together again
It ain't gonna be perfect to start with but you always learn stuff
Every time you do it you learn stuff every time I do it now. I learn stuff
It's just it's just a learning process like anything in life. It takes
you have to go through the process to get where you want to go and
It all depends on when you quit that process of how good you are
But if you keep using that process over and over again, you're gonna learn stuff that works learn stuff that won't work
Eventually, you'll get pretty good at it and start getting fun
because you can do Frankenstein knives and this is this it's just endless on how you can use these tools on
Restoring knives. It don't take a whole lot of money at all. I say just say 50 a piece
That's a hundred bucks. I picked this up at a state sale. I think it was a like a little over a hundred
I think I gave a hundred and twenty bucks for it
110 because this is an old
Craftsman a great little
vise but then this here I think this is
79 or 89. Nah, it's not that much to get
drill press
But but again just throw this out if you just want to cut the knives don't do handles
But I would get this if you want to do handles because it's I have to use it sometimes for it
Especially when you creating
the holes to put around the pins and the handle scales you need a drill press but uh
This stuff ain't expensive at all guys. I mainly pick my stuff up at the state sales. I always look for
punches and ball-peen hammers chisels and
The superglue you can buy that for like I think at Harbor Freight you can buy
That for like less than a three pack for less than five bucks and this right here wasn't that much it pops
And this here maybe ten bucks that there at Walmart's by eight bucks
This is about nine bucks, believe it or not. So it ain't that expensive to get into is what I'm saying guys
But anyway, that's my take on what you need my
essentials for restoring knives

Y'all let me know what you think about my tools that I use very cheap and they work
They've been working for me over five years and I love them. I really do
Couldn't couldn't do it without Adam. I used to do it by hand. I
When I was doing it by hand, I never took them apart. So this has really upped my game so to speak in the last five
years
So I've really learned a lot too over the last three years just doing it
routinely
every week
Thanks to y'all
So, but y'all let me know what y'all think guys of the tools that I shared today
Okay, but I went over the knife haul I got in
Bonifay, Florida and had a great time down there and the stores are just so the
Staff in there was just so nice and they're so thankful for y'all for
Calling up and buying all them knives that they've had for a while
So thank y'all and I had a good time in there buying some knives as well

My wife's been off since the first part of June and we've been going and going and going in these last two weeks
She has worked me to the bone
She is getting a goody out of me. I'm just saying and uh
Like today we got something to do we got something to do tomorrow, but she's going back to work
much
I'm gonna miss her so much. I am I'm gonna miss her so bad
but uh, anyway
My schedule is gonna get back to normal is what I'm getting at. So
It's gonna be
It's gonna be a good time tonight. Put it that way. Mr. Knox man is gonna be in here
We got a real big auction. We're gonna buzz through these because I'm gonna have these listed sometime this afternoon before the auction. So
