Hello everyone, now I am actually very surprised because I can't believe I haven't done a video
about this topic today, how to make your makeup last all day and I'm so surprised because these
are such fundamental skills for makeup and the learning how to do your makeup and you know what
it's something that I have really struggled with throughout my makeup journey and even sometimes
to this day I'll mess up a step in my routine and my makeup won't last and then later on I'll
realize oh it's because I didn't do that so today I'm going to share all of the skills that I have
learned throughout the years on how I get my makeup lasting all day all night through whatever
occasion you need it to and these steps just make your makeup so crispy and good all day when I
properly do all of these steps I get the most compliments so anyways without further ado
let's get into it so for the sake of the video I'm just going to do like an everyday look but
I'm really explaining what's going on behind the scenes so the first reason why your makeup isn't
lasting all day is because you're applying your makeup to dry and unprepped skin it's the base
it's what the makeup is actually sticking to now the prep is dependent on your skin type so
personally I have very dry skin so here are a list of moisturizers I recommend for dry skin as prep
and if you have oily skin here is a list for your oily skin baddies I think for prep it's important
to have a little bit of moisturizer on your base because applying makeup products to dry or oily
skin as it is will stuff up your whole makeup look and I know a lot of people skip this step
or it doesn't even cross their mind a lot of people assume that you shouldn't put makeup on
top of like a moisturizer or a skincare and that leads us into reason number two why your makeup
isn't lasting you're using way too much skincare underneath you don't want to do your whole entire
crazy skincare routine before you pop on your makeup save that for the night time save your
slugging and all of that jazz and all of your ointments and everything for night time it's
honestly better to pop it all on at night time so you wake up with a beautifully moisturized face
for your makeup however I do think it's important before you do your makeup to wash your face and
have some sort of prep such as a moisturizer now for today I'm going to be using the rogue glazing
milk because I have dry skin and it's not too thick of a moisturizer but it still leaves my
skin glowy and prepped for makeup so just get a bit of this now another hack is to leave your
moisturizer to sink into your face for around five to ten minutes I know not a lot of people have
that time or if you're in a rush but this is only if like you're really preparing to do your
makeup for a special occasion or even if you're getting ready in the morning wash your face pop
on your moisturizer and do your hair or something and then come back to your makeup later okay now
that I am nice and moisturized that leads us into number three as to why your makeup isn't lasting
and that is because your primer and the rest of your makeup are not working together so since I
have dry skin and I used a moisturizing product for dry skin I want to use a primer that's also
going to help aid with moisturizing my skin now you can either get a water-based primer or a
silicon-based primer and whatever you choose based on what you like you're going to have to use other
products that are either water-based or silicon-based I've spoken about this before and it's very
important it can make or break how your makeup turns out I know a lot of my makeup products are
naturally water-based and it's one point in time I was using a silicon-based primer and I didn't
realize why my makeup was getting crumbly and not setting and lasting well and then I looked
up the ingredients and it just didn't mesh well with the rest of my products so it's important
to know what base your primer is so these are some I recommend for a water-based primer and these are
some that I recommend for a silicon-based primer now I'm going to use this primer which is one of
the water-based ones that I recommended as you can see I love and have used this primer a lot
and it goes well with a lot of my foundations so another tip that you really need to know don't put
too much primer we already have a little bit of moisturizer which is going to work well with this
but I'm just going to do like half a pump on each cheek this is good because it's a two-in-one it
has a bronzing serum inside but I blend this in with a brush it is up to you how you like to blend
in your products personally I just love brushes I recommend brushes they don't leave me feeling
dirty on my hands or anything and I know it's annoying to look up what base all of your products
are but trust me it's worth it in the long run you only have to do it once and it will save you a
lot of money now the fourth reason why your makeup is not lasting is because you're applying too much
foundation I know it hurts to hear that because as someone that has suffered with acne themselves
some days I just want to like lather on the most products but there is a way to cover your acne
without having to look cakey and it's going to make your makeup last a lot longer but here are
a list of natural and long-lasting foundations that I really recommend now I'm going in with
the NARS Sheer Glow today which I have not used in yonks but I know that this foundation is so
long-lasting and I know that it goes well with my primer so I'm taking one pump that's all you need
to start do not take more than one pump because it's a lot easier to add and a lot harder to
remove so I'm just going in this is definitely way too dark for me I'm very pale right now but
as you can see I'm blending out with this brush and the more time you take blending the more
evenly spread it's going to be this is one pump to be honest you can really see where I have
distributed it because the color is so dark honestly if this was in my shade I would be
very happy with how this is blended out I'm going to take a lighter shade of the same foundation
and I'm just going to do one more pump honestly even maybe half a pump but honestly I don't think
I have ever ever needed to use more than two pumps of foundation for my full face if you are
finding yourself needing to use more than two pumps it's probably because your face is extremely
dry and the makeup is not spreading throughout your face evenly so two pumps of foundation
should be more than enough but moving on to concealer these are some that I recommend
if you're struggling with finding out what base what isn't etc I recommend just using a concealer
that is the same brand as your foundation because usually brands will create their products so they
can work together well so in that case now today I'm going to be using this NARS concealer and
again we're going by the same rule do not apply too much now as I'm blending in my concealer
let's talk about the reason number five why your makeup isn't lasting is because you're not
applying it properly as you can see by my technique I am pressing the makeup into my skin I'm pat pat
pat pat pat pat with a brush if I had a beauty blender I'd be doing the same pat pat pat and
bingo pat pat pat it's the same same technique I sometimes look back at old videos of myself
and I am literally dragging and blending like this to blend my makeup that does not make your
makeup last that is stripping away your makeup as I'm pressing and pressing it into the base that
we've set down so everything is meshing together really well now it is time for our bronzes and
blushes so that leads us in to number six you're applying your creams and your liquids incorrectly
so a lot of people I see to this day they apply their cream and liquid blush and contour products
on top of set powder which doesn't really make sense to me because that can really disrupt the
layer underneath so I like to do my creams and my liquid products straight after my foundation
and concealer and I'm gonna use the exact same method as I just stated I'm tapping pat pat pat
tapping in the products to my skin same goes for blush you can apply it however you want just make
sure you're patting it in not blending and dragging and that's not picking up the foundation
or the concealer that we put on underneath okay now that we have the majority of our base on the
seventh reason why your makeup isn't lasting is because you're not applying powder or you're
applying too much powder there's a very fine line in terms of setting with powder and I can't believe
that some people go about their day without setting their face with a powder and it is so essential to
keep your makeup on but here I have some loose powder recommendations and some pressed powder
recommendations I personally like to set my face with a loose powder but again we don't want to do
too much so this is how I apply my powder I love this Fenty Beauty powder honestly the finer the
powder the more seamless it's going to be I take about that much which is honestly hardly anything
and a powder puff and I spread it evenly on the powder puff and press it under my eye and then
blend it outwards as well for the other side take whatever's left I used to go crazy with the baking
baking was a huge trend but it would often leave your face very dry and it would look very matte
and cakey we don't want that a lot of powder can make your face look very cakey even if you didn't
put much makeup actually on underneath so as you can see I'm just blending out the remnants
throughout the rest of my face there's like no new powder on the powder puff and then with a fluffy
brush as you can see there's like nothing in here there's just like a little bit on the outside I
just make sure I get it all and I send that down my neck and press the makeup into my face as you
can see I'm still pressing I'm not dragging even with a brush now a little hack that will make
your makeup look better but also make it last is I use powdered versions of bronzer and of blush
to set my outer face to set where I place the bronzer in the blush that's going to make your
makeup look a lot more like a real face and you're not going to have to use too much of that press
powder as you can see I really didn't use much at all pressed blush now I'm just going to do my own
little touches before we enter the next step of how to make your makeup last so I'm just adding
some freckles and the freckles I'm just going to pat them in with my beauty blender now back to the
step about setting with powder I said I don't like to set my face with a pressed powder I prefer a
loose powder that is true and I have done that but now that I have all of the powders on my face I
like to go in with a pressed powder and just a little bit of this on my puff and I'm just pressing
in again all of my makeup now this is an extra step if you do want your makeup more bright or
more full coverage as this is a brightening powder you don't always have to do this but I do feel
like it really sets your makeup in place and it's hard to go overboard with a product like this
because it's meant for touching up your makeup throughout the day it's not meant for a proper
setting of the face so you're not going to be cakey now the eighth reason why your makeup isn't
is because you're not locking it in I'm telling you from personal experience that a setting spray
is almost extremely very important and essential it is essential setting spray is not just for
removing a powdery look it is to lock and set everything in all day now there are some
setting sprays that will do that more intensely and some that are more skincare based here are
some setting sprays that are specifically for longevity this one-sized setting spray is
definitely known for its long wear time but it is a very intense setting spray this is great if
you're going like clubbing and you really need your makeup to like stick whereas this is something
that is better for a day time wear it's not as intense it's not as like crazy I don't know if
you know you know that this Charlotte Tilbury one does the same thing it's just a little less
intense and a little less longevity that one's crazy longevity I'm just gonna set my face quickly
for my highlighter we're going to go back into one of the earlier steps I'm not using a liquid
product over all of the pressed powder that I just did now that I've set everything I'm going in
with a powder highlighter if you want to do a liquid highlighter go in and do that before you've
set your face now reason number nine why your makeup isn't lasting is because you're not using
products that are known for lasting it's as simple as that now we're going to use and apply this rule
for the rest of the spaces on my face such as my eyebrows my eyes and my lip because now that
we've perfected the base we now need to perfect everything else and the key is to use products
that are going to be hard to take off which is kind of a bad thing for later on but it ensures
that your makeup lasts all day all night you can't take it off so for eyebrows I know a lot
of people struggle with having their eyebrows being wiped off halfway through the day and
unfortunately that is because you're using a product that is not known to last all day if
you're someone that needs to really fill in their eyebrows instead of going for a product like a
brow pencil go for a product like a brow pen I'm going to give an example I'm going to do a line
of the brow pen and a line of the brow pencil and just with my finger I'm going to wipe around
a little bit not fully off just like that and as you can see the pencil is a lot more fair and
a lot less stuck on than the pen so use a pen product if you want it to stick now for lips
lipstick is one of the hardest things to keep on your face and sometimes it is inevitable your
lipstick is going to come off you're eating you're drinking you're talking it's inevitable
it doesn't matter what you use sometimes however if your makeup does end up coming off we can make
it look a lot more seamless now let me explain we're going to do the same thing as we did for
the brows we're going to use a product that is known for being hard to take off and we're going
to be using a lip stain what I like to do is grab a lip stain these are the Huda Beauty lip
stains but you can use any brand and I prep my lips by coloring them in with a stain so that way
if my lipstick comes off there's still going to be a pretty stain color underneath so it's not
going to be as noticeable now that my lips are stained I'm just going to go on top of that with
my usual lip combo and then later on if my lips come off I'm going to look like this now before
we move on to the final reason as to why your makeup isn't lasting I'm going to apply the same
rule as we just did to my eyes I'm going to do my eyes with waterproof products and therefore
my makeup would last through rain hail and shine and tears and happiness and everything first I'm
just going in with a liquid waterproof eyeliner and then going in with a waterproof mascara now
my glam is done but there is still one more reason why your makeup isn't lasting and if anything it's
the most detrimental thing to your makeup and it's touching your face I know I've done it to
myself too I just sit in the day with your hands on your face you touch your face you forget about
your makeup trust me I get it but touching your face is unfortunately a very big reason as to why
your makeup is not lasting I know it sucks but there are ways to work through it if you do your
makeup specifically to last the first time you do that kind of just keep it in your mind in the back
of your head maybe tell someone you're with if you see me touching my face tell me not to put a
little note on your lock screen if you really want it to last there are steps to get out of it and I
used to really touch my face when I had makeup but I have really learned to keep my hands away
from my face when I'm glad but anyways this is the final look
yeah I hope you guys enjoyed these tips and tricks I really wish that I had this information
