All right, welcome back.
We don't want to waste any time.
Let's get to Lauren Edwards.
She is on Mackinac Island.
Look, Lauren, when I saw you were covering this on Saturday over the Bayview Yacht Club,
I didn't know that they would send you all the way to Mackinac Island.
But here we are.
I have to do the start of the race.
And then you have to finish the race, apparently, too.
Yeah.
Is Sky Fox going to pick you two up and take you back here?
Or are you taking a boat back?
What are we talking about here?
We're driving.
Me and photojournalist Brettley Dickey, which I will say, I drove on the way up.
Because I was like, he worked so hard.
Let's just let him rest.
And I drove.
OK.
See, you're rolling.
And he said, never again.
Oh, never again.
You know, but anyways.
Because you know how people from Chicago drive.
Because he's just...
So anyways, we're going to talk to Mika here.
All right.
Mika's great.
I just want you to get to know her, because she's race chair.
She's been awesome.
Mika, thank you so much for joining us.
Thank you for having me.
And first of all, how are you feeling?
I'm great.
I'm excited to be here.
It's been very surreal.
I keep checking myself, like, OK, everyone's here.
We're making it.
It's good.
Good.
And you were out there.
I know there was rough waves, high winds.
Talk about what it was like being on the water.
It was exciting.
It definitely was...
I think I used the term sporty.
And someone said it was rowdy.
It was a little rowdy out there.
We got some weather, which we were anticipating, so everybody was prepared with their gear.
I will say mine did work.
My PFD went off, because we had so much rain coming down at one point.
So the water...
Yeah.
So I knew I was safe.
But it was good.
We had a lot of wind, and it just kept building.
But how does it feel to be here now, now amongst friends and family?
I would have liked to sail here.
But the fact that we're here safely, and everyone still is arriving safely, that's the important
part.
So it's fun to be here.
It's such an accomplishment.
Got it.
And what's next?
What was it like, though, when you are coming here?
Was there any sort of disappointment that you felt, that you couldn't be on sailing
up here?
Yes, for a short period of time.
But after we were watching the weather, and seeing all the other boats, and hearing other
stories, you're just grateful that you got off safely, and you gave it...
We lost our mainsail and our jib, so we couldn't race anymore.
So we knew that we put everything we had out there, and that's just the way it shook out
for us.
Got it.
And Brandon, if you've got any questions you want to ask her, just tell me, and I will
ask her.
But what's next?
So for this week, we have our awards tomorrow at Mission Point Resort on the lawn.
So that will be fun, to award all the winners and the sailors who actually did finish the
race.
Excited to continue hearing stories, and just celebrate.
Also, we have about a dozen boats still out there.
So excited to continue watching for them, and cheer them on once they arrive.
Brandon, what's your question?
Because I know you've got a question.
Yeah, so it's not really me.
It's my co-worker, Tom Carr.
Tom wants to know, how did the Pendragon do?
How did the what do?
Pendragon.
What's it called?
The dragon?
Pendragon.
There you go.
Well, we have Pendragon.
Are they here?
One of their shore crew members are.
Shore crew members?
Wait a minute.
Are you here?
Come on over.
Who's?
I need.
Yeah.
Okay.
You can come.
This is the most casual thing ever.
What's your name?
Tiffany.
All right.
Pendragon.
How'd it go?
So I'm just on shore crew, but they also had to retire.
But everybody's safe and in decent spirits.
And how was it out there?
Take us through those moments.
I'm just, my husband's tail's on the boat, but I know they had a good start and they
were in a good position and then their main had a problem and so then they had to turn
around.
All right.
Cool.
I'm sorry.
I don't mean to reach over you.
You're fine.
We're trying to reach.
This is the most casual, easy peasy thing that we do.
So Brandon, was that good?
Excellent.
Thank you.
Tom says it was excellent.
He has been on the Pendragon before, so you really made his day.
Tom's been on the Pendragon?
Yeah.
Wait, Tom's sailed?
That shouldn't shock me at all.
Tell her that I am Paul Rochon's brother-in-law.
So Tom is Paul Rochon's brother-in-law.
Wait a minute, you're someone's brother-in-law?
Paul Rochon.
Well, he passed away, but it was Paul Rochon.
Paul Rochon?
Yes, that would be my uncle Paul.
Oh, so you know Tom?
Do you know Tom Carr?
We probably met.
I don't think so.
Probably.
Okay, Tom says you probably met.
I'm hearing him in my ear.
That's so funny.
I love Tom Carr.
I love him.
Love him to the moon.
Love you too.
All right.
Hey, Lauren, a question I got before you go.
So I know you have some other work to do, but where are you hanging out?
If you find something good to eat, a good lobster roll, anything like that?
Mission Point has been awesome.
That's just where we are.
Lobster rolls are a main thing.
I have them.
They're great.
But no, we've been here.
We've been at Mission Point.
They've been phenomenal.
Met the owner.
They're just all so welcoming.
She's like, eat whatever you want, do whatever you want.
And so it's been great.
Is this your first trip to Mackinac?
This is my first trip to Mackinac.
And it's crazy because you know me, I will go all over the world.
I've been everywhere.
But that was my first time up here.
Oh, I see a Cubs something.
Oh, I'm a Sox fan.
I am so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
No, go Sox.
Here we are.
From Cambodia to Chicago.
Now to Mackinac Island.
Lauren Edwards.
You know good and well I've not been to Cambodia.
Okay.
All right.
Well, hey.
Bye, dear.
Safe travels back whenever you do return.
If you do return.
And it'll be good to see you.
You're so funny.
Bye.
We want fudge.
Bye.
Tell Brett bye as well.
Bye.
Brett, they say bye.
You're not even doing it in the camera.
This is thumb.
This is hand.
