Don't Go Swimming Until You Know These 10 'Annoying' Things
Swimming is a challenging sport, to swim well you need great technique, strength, endurance, and the mental capacity to be able to swim up and down all day without getting bored! Whilst everyone can appreciate swimming is hard, there are some problems that only a swimmer will understand!
This video explores the unique and often humorous struggles faced by swimmers. Beyond the physical demands of strength and endurance, it highlights the \"hidden\" challenges of the sport, from the mental gymnastics of calculating intervals to the awkwardness of gear and the physical toll of early morning training.
Swimming is a tough sport. It demands technique, strength, and endurance.
Not to mention the mental capacity to swim laps all day.
While we all agree it's difficult, some struggles only swimmers get.
And here are a few.
Swimmers are secret math experts.
Imagine doing a set of 20 x 100s on a 140 interval.
You've not only got to watch the pace clock to see how fast you swam each rep,
you also need to calculate your rest time.
Before the next rep starts.
Plus keep count of all 20 reps.
Not to mention actually just doing all 20 of those 100s.
Then it gets way more complex.
And for longer sets.
Adjusting our turnaround times.
Or maybe switching up distances.
All within a single set.
Swimmers are basically math geniuses.
And no wonder Archimedes had his big eureka moment in the bath.
Tumble or flip turns are skills.
That we swimmers take pride in.
Nothing marks a seasoned pro.
Better than a perfect flip turn.
Into a smooth dolphin kick.
But it doesn't always go right.
Or to plan.
Maybe you're on holiday, camp, or training.
In a new pool.
Regardless, it's so awkward to go.
For a turn, hit empty air, and just end up.
Drifting away like a pencil off the wall.
Swim caps.
I mean, who else would want to shove a tight rubber thing.
Right on our heads.
Not only do they look absurd.
And they tend to slip off.
Or snapping at the worst possible moment.
I guess it's all in the name of speed.
And maybe keeping our heads warm sometimes.
But there's no avoiding.
Just how strange they look.
And what about the faces we pull.
While we're putting on our caps and goggles?
Waking up at 5am or some ungodly hour.
To hit the pool is already tough enough.
You're going to look tired regardless.
But your dark circles aren't helped by those.
Deep red goggle rings.
Showing up to work or school.
Looking like you've been face painting, is never a good look.
If you swim occasionally, you'll have time to dry your.
Gear between sets.
But if you're swimming daily, or twice a day.
Then wet kit becomes a major, everyday struggle.
You finish your set, toss gear in your bag.
And head off to work or school.
While that gear just sits in your bag.
Haunting you all day long, knowing full well.
You need to air it out to dry.
But sometimes you just forget.
And your next swim is in soggy kit.
Who'd have thought our swimming gear.
Which we're forced to lug around.
Could soak up so much water.
And it tends to just trickle down your back.
As you walk out of the pool.
Nothing builds an appetite like swimming.
It's no wonder Michael Phelps was famous.
For his massive daily calorie intake.
But it's not just the hunger.
It's also tough to time your meals.
Around your swim sessions.
Eat too close to your swim.
And you'll feel sick and miserable.
But equally don't eat enough before a swim.
And you end up running out of energy mid-swim.
It's not like you can just stop for a coffee and cake.
Like you might on the bike, but that being said.
There is nothing better than finishing a swim.
And tucking into a good breakfast.
Or just raiding the fridge.
Knowing full well that you've earned it.
Now, this is a rather strange one.
But we're used to recognizing our friends.
Or their outfits, and so on.
And so on, and so forth.
But with our swim buddies, it's different.
It's wild how.
Different people look dressed, without caps or goggles.
You could literally walk past someone you spend two hours.
A day within the pool and not recognize them.
It's one thing to focus on.
Your technique.
It's another to hold a hard pace, but imagine having.
And manage both with foggy goggles.
It's nearly impossible.
Yes, struggling to see where.
You're going, hitting the lane rope, or not even being able to see the.
Pace clock at the end of the pool is enough to make any swimmer crack.
Don't get me started on leaking goggles, or worse, both.
Only swimmers say land training.
It's actually.
Pretty weird when you think about it.
And I'm sure people have asked you what it means.
It's basically when a swimmer hits the gym.
Doing cardio or running on dry ground.
And out of the water.
So, how many of these have you dealt with?
During your sets?
Maybe you're a seasoned swimmer.
And you've lived through it all.
Or maybe you're new to the pool.
And still unsure of this world.
You've just waded into.
