While Patrick Mahomes is a perennial winner with unique talent, the speaker currently favors Josh Allen due to his health, arm strength, and mobility. The conversation also explores other elite talents like Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and the high potential for Justin Herbert this season.
So who gets to nod with you? I asked Phil Simms' question yesterday and I'll ask you
and I'll tell you then who he picked after you tell me who you pick. Mahomes or Allen?
Best quarterback in the NFL or maybe you have a third guy that you would put right now heading
into the 26th season. Who would that quarterback be? So that's a very tough question obviously
splitting hairs. I think if I had to pick between those two just given what we have currently going
on I would go Josh Allen because you know he's healthy right now he has a cannon arm he has
excellent mobility. Mahomes if he wasn't coming off the knee injury I could see the case for him
being the number one guy. I mean he's proven time and time again that he's a winner. Again guy who
can just create massive plays with his legs and his arm and just his arm talent is so unique you
really don't see a lot of guys that have the ability that Mahomes has to get the ball where
it needs to go. So again splitting hairs there I think I go Josh Allen. The other two guys I would
throw into this mix I have like a top four that I look at with quarterbacks it's Allen Mahomes
and then I love Lamar Jackson's talent. I think that he's just so dynamic and then if Joe Burrow
can stay healthy he might be the best pure passer in the NFL. Health has been just such a problem
for him but those four guys I would trust any day of the week to throw out there if you told me
they're going to be healthy who do you want to pick to win your uh lead your team to a win
probably give Josh Allen a slight edge over the group right now but any of those guys are terrific.
Well I'm going to give you an Indiana Jones reference you chose wisely my friend
that's exactly who Simms said he said Josh Allen. What about Justin Herbert he's my preseason
favorite to win the MVP this year you know you bring the Miami coach over as his OC plus Jim
Harbaugh knows how to coach uh quarterbacks. I love Justin Herbert gotta win in the postseason
I know that's the big storyline with him but what a talent he is. Oh yeah I think Herbert is a
fantastic talent he's so consistent like week in week out you know what you're gonna get from him
and what I was most impressed last season is statistically his season maybe wasn't as great
as some of the other guys out there but he was under so much pressure behind that offensive line
I think he was the most pressured quarterback in the league like fairly considerably ahead of
Drake May who ranked second in that category so if you're telling me that he can kind of get better
protection this year and he's playing in a Mike McDaniel offense it's pretty quarterback friendly
and explosive playmakers that can kind of be unlocked by that I really like that uh that
pick is like a maybe not a full sleeper MVP but a value pick there I think that he could definitely
have a fantastic season he's done so well with the Chargers overall and it just feels like Jim
Harbaugh is ready to break through with this team I just I get a sneaky feeling that they're going
to be maybe the team to beat in that AFC West this year I think the Chiefs will give them some
trouble obviously the Broncos are very good as well but if that offensive line stays healthy
Dan I really do like the Chargers this year.
